Highly recommended
We spent the week of New Year's 2013/14 enjoying Casa Phil. The house is exactly as described, and the photos accurately reflect Philippe's beautiful home. The home is closely located to the beach, actually a 5 minute walk. We enjoyed running on the beach daily, as the beach extended for many miles. On this beach, there are a lot of restaurants and bars which we enjoyed as well.
Philippe is a very gracious host. He was extremely helpful in arranging all of our transportation needs, from taxis to and from the airport, to renting dune buggies (which he builds himself), and a quad. He was always checking in on us as well, making sure that everything was ok, and whether or not we needed anything. We can't thank Philippe enough for making our vacation so memorable.
We highly recommend Casa Phil to anyone interested in a vacation in Las Terrenas, DR.

We had a wonderful time, and recommend Casa Phil!
The house is just as described and photographed. It is clean, airy, well appointed, just great. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay great. We were happy to have a car for shopping, going to restaurants at a bit more distance etc. There are two great beaches in easy walking distance. The town of Las Terenas is about a fifteen minute walk along the beach and oceanfront. Las Terenas is full of restaurants and shops, Philipe, the owner, was a gracious host, and helped us with any questions we had.
We will certainly be back, and recommend Casa Phil to anyone visiting the Dominican Republic.

An EXEPTIONAL Property
This was our third time in Las Terrenas and this time we spent 10 days in March 2014 with our 3 kids (age 3,7 and 10) and another couple with 1 children. Of all our previous rentals in Las Terrenas, all of which have been high end villas in the same price range, Casa Phil has been by far our best experience so far.
Simply said the house is just wonderful. It's a modern 2 story structure, with loft like open spaces, concrete floor, electric shutters, art work and antique furniture and all the amenities one is to expect in such a villa like a big fully equipped kitchen, ac (electricity of ac is additional like in most houses in las terranes), wifi, no mosquitos, daily cleaning and property maintenance etc. Top notch. The view is amazing, it's everywhere: the living room is completely opened and whenever you raise your eyes you see the sea and the surrounding nature. The closest beach is just at 5 minutes walk from the house, where 2 restaurants are also located. Before and during our stay Philippe, the owner, has been extremely helpful and full of good advices. He arranged for us our transport shuttle and bought some grocery so that we would not have to worry about it for our dinner and breakfast when we arrived. We also were handed a local mobile phone that proved very handy when we ordered delivery.
We wish we could have stayed more and will definitely return. We recommend Casa Phil to everyone looking for a relaxing vacation in an amazing spot that is worth a thousand pictures and leaves you with great memories.

Great property & people
Casa Phil exceeded our expectations for a luxury rental in the Dominican. There's plenty of room for a large group of travelers, we had six, and the interior is clean and well decorated. The location is excellent. A quick walk to the local beach and a short drive to Playa Cosón. The included WiFi internet, satellite TV, and towel service were nice touches. The service staff was very pleasant and helpful. The owner was also very easy to work with and incredibly gracious. He gave us some great suggestions on things to do during our stay. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay!

I beautiful house and view with a gracious host and staff
I truly have a hard time imagining a better overall experience anywhere. Philippe was quick to respond to my many inquires leading up to the trip, and was very gracious once we were there. The pictures of the house hardly do it justice; this place is beautiful! And I can't write a review of this place without mentioning the amazingly helpful and kind staff. Every morning we were treated with a deliciously prepared breakfast. Thank you Philippe, Andrea, and Victor!

Excellent house with the potential for five stars
Let me start by saying that we loved this house and had a great time here and wish that we never had to leave. It is a beautiful home in an insanely scenic spot in a great town in a wonderful country and we will remember the week we spent there fondly for the rest of our lives.
Pluses: The house is beautiful with a mixture of eclectic and modern design with enough personal touches to make it feel like a home instead of a hotel. The two main floors of the house have walls that roll up so that the entire house is essentially a big balcony. The pool area was wonderful and is where we spent most of our time. THE VIEW!!! The view is breath taking and if you are lucky you may just get to see a rainbow over the ocean while you eat your breakfast like we did. The only thing that may beat the view is the amazing staff of the house. Andrea is a wonderful cook (as long as you ask for Dominican dishes which we did... ask her to make sancocho and you won't be disappointed) and so friendly and even watched our baby for a while for us. Victor was extremely helpful getting around town and even took his trusted machete and hacked his way through the overgrowth to get us to the undeveloped Playa Perdida (turns out that it is perdida "lost" for a reason. Though the beach is sandy, about 20 feet out is nothing but a shelf of rocks and we kept getting smashed on the rocks with every wave. Though it sounds awesome to have a Caribbean beach all to yourself, I would say not to bother with this one and just go to the good beaches with everyone else, they aren't that busy anyway).
The minuses: It is advertised as sleeping 12 but there are three essentially master bedrooms with their own bathrooms and then a children's bunk room with four more twin beds. I don't know where the other two beds are. Not that there isn't more than enough room to fit many more people, but that would involve some air mattresses and blankets on the floor I think. The jacuzzi and pool table were both broken so we didn't get to use them at all. There was also some electrical issues going on so some of the lights didn't work and some of the fans as well. The main door to the street sometimes wouldn't open or close so I had to get out and do it manually. Finding it can be a little tricky the first time. The biggest problem we had was with mosquitoes. some people were bit quite a bit and it definitely got pretty uncomfortable. Make sure to bring some bug spray and to close the doors before all the bugs come out.

You MUST stay here.
I don't even know where to begin... we have annual trip that consists of 8 friends/4 couples from all over the United States and we come together once a year for a 2 week vacation. We pick a different location every year and this year, we decided on staying at Casa Phil. Everything you see in the photos is spot on and there is SO much more. We have traveled the world and this is hands down the absolute best place we have ever stayed in. This is paradise on earth and we are seriously thinking about coming back each and every year. Philippe, the owner, met us when we arrived and was (easily) accessible throughout the entire week if we ever had any questions or needed anything. Andrea works at the house each day and she made our stay. She's one of our favorite memories from our stay and after 10 days we felt as though we became very good friends with her and her husband. The house was so beautiful and comfortable, the pool amazing. The memories we had over the giant dining room table, laughing all night with the gentle breeze floating through. The location is perfect because you get a beautiful natural breeze floating through in the evening. You can enjoy the pool and then take in the most beautiful vista and see the ocean all at the same time. And if you want to enjoy the beach it is a 2 minute walk down a hill to a beautifully pristine beach with a great bar just across the sand with fabulously affordable drinks and food. If you want a night out, the "main street" is only a 2 minute drive or a 30 minute walk. On our last night we went restaurant/bar hopping and every restaurant was better than the last one. I feel as though I'm rambling and the truth is, it took me a month to write this review because I didn't know how to express how wonderful it was to stay at this house. Just please take my word for it - you will NOT regret it! Our sincere hope is that we can come back every year because I don't really think anything else will compare.

Beautiful view, lovely house, great experience!
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Phil so much -- we were part of a group of 10 adults who stayed there -- and we all had a wonderful time. There was plenty of room for all of us to feel like we had plenty of space. My husband and I were on the top floor in a room that faced the water -- absolutely gorgeous views!!! The house is modern -- with an expansive kitchen -- and everything worked perfectly for us. The pool was a particular treat -- allowing us to enjoy the view and beat the heat. Our bedroom was air conditioned and we were very comfortable. Andrea, the housekeeper and chef, was a special treat -- her cooking was wonderful -- it may sound silly, but I could eat her beans and rice every day and be completely satisfied. We would definitely encourage friends to stay here -- we had such a lovely time. It was perfect.

Gorgeous, spacious, immaculate getaway
I stayed at Casa Phil in September 2015 and it was a wonderful getaway. The villa is gorgeous with tons of space (I was there with 10 adults), amazing views, and all the amenities you dream of from the infinity pool to a bar, views of and easy access to the beach, spacious rooms, large kitchen, elegant décor, and tons of privacy.
It is supported by very helpful people - everything from start to finish was very well organized and taken care beginning at the airport. The staff took wonderful care of us – Andrea prepared our breakfast and lunch each day and her cooking is divine. You must have her make her local Dominican specialty as amazing. Her husband helped take care of errands to ensure we were well taken care of, plus the house, which is mostly all white, is kept spotless by the housekeeper. Villa owner Philippe was always a phone call away to help as needed, plus we talked him into making us an authentic Italian dinner one evening.
Every bathroom is large with big showers making it easy to accommodate many adults, or kids if a family vacation. I like to work out and therefore appreciated the close access to the main road in Las Terrenas which is next to the beach for running and walking. It has gorgeous views, you get to see local culture, and it felt very safe.
As part of a large party, we spent most of our time at the villa and with the pool, outdoor couches, and outdoor dining, it was easy to enjoy all day for maximum relaxation. We went to a nearby restaurant and bar for some off-site nightlife entertaining, and both were in easy walking distance for night life.
Overall, I would highly recommend this villa to anyone looking for a relaxing retreat while feeling at home!

What a fantastic place
This place is just amazing. I can't imagine any better place to spend time at Las Terrenas. The place is a palace with all the little details. The owner helped us in every aspect of our vacation in the DR. You have a private beach in the Caribbean basically. Just hard to even explain. You also have Andrea, a local lady that come in the morning clean and cook for us. So gracious and professional. At the end we were 5 of us and per person is cheaper than an hotel but you feel like a king

Anywhere you look, one beach is more beautiful than the next one. Playa cosón heads up the list with its turquoise, pristine waters and its three miles of white sand shore. You can actually walk along the sea from the end of playa cosón to playa la bonita (which literally means the beautiful beach,) then playa escondida; cross the hill and you are in playa las ballenas (just nearby Casa Phil), playa punta popi and playa portillo. Over ten miles of a continuous incredible paradise ready for you to discover.
Watch the whale!
Whale watching in the bay of samaná will be one of the highlights of your visit. Between the months of january to march, humpback whales come from distant oceans to the waters of samaná to perform their courting songs and impress us with fascinating shows of flippering and jumping. These whales have chosen our area to mate and come back every year with their newborns and male companions to start anew their cycle of life.
Excursions and day trips
Whether on a horse, on an atv, by car or on a boat, there are wonderful excursions and day trips you can enjoy in the area. From el salto de el limón - el limón falls, fishing trips, snorkeling and scuba diving, or just a walking tour of las terrenas, your days can be filled with activity and emotions. Zip-lining and eco tours through this wonderful tropical forests are an incomparable adventure and a total must. My dear friend Francis is the captain of the 45ft catamaran named 'Califa' and you may contact him for a day trip in the Samana bay to the beautiful 'Cayo Levantado' island (my favorite hang out for snorkeling) or to the 'Haites' national park.
Fine dining and wining in las terrrenas
If you just want to sit back and and enjoy fine drinking and dining, las terrenas and samaná offer you a wide range of international restaurants. From mexican fajitas to an ukranian borscht to a french ratatouille, the cosmopolitan flavor of this town is reflected not only in its population but also in its cuisine. A café au lait and a croissant for breakfast, a cuban sandwich and a mojito for lunch and a paella for dinner is not an unthinkable menu in your culinary journey of las terrenas and samaná. Our favorite hangouts in town (and defenitely 'must do' during your stay) are the 'spoon beach restaurant bar' just 1 minute walk for casa phil owned by willy a cooking gem in town, 'le tre caravelle' owned by the friendly simone for a refined italian fish based dinner (don't leave without trying the risotto tre caravelle), 'la serviette' if you crave for modern french caribbean cuisine, 'la salsa' in the 'fisherman's village with the best price/quality 200 pesos mid day menu.
Sports events and sport tours
Nothing prevents you from continuing practicing your favorite sports and keeping in shape while vacationing in las terrenas or samaná. You can even participate in a 10k road race, a cross country run, a mountain bike competition, sailing, going to a gym, swimming, kite surfing and surfing in our beaches. There are annual events such as las terrenas 10k and the cross country @ playa morón which are internationally accredited athletic events which promote our area as a main sport tourism destination in the dominican republic. If you are into surfing or have always wanted to try it, here is you chance, visit 'nalu surfshop' owned by my friend and surf instructor william.
Nightlife in las terrenas
Certainly, one of the most popular social activities for entertainment in las terrenas, dancing and 'clubbing' is a favorite for both national and international tourists visiting the area. Our 'fisherman's village' is a popular spot concentrating most of the discos and bars in las terrenas, but it is not the only area where to have fun. Nightlife is vibrant in this town offering a new world for the visitors to discover. My favorite's hangouts in the 'fisherman's village' are the replay with Nicholas and Enzo for a mix of contemporary and latin music often animated by one of the local dance schools (to practice your bachata and salsa moves), gaia disco owned by sergio our neighbour on loma bonita.
