The Walawwa lies in the lush 25-acre Gileemale Estate which fosters traditional agricultural methods, and where Sabaragamuwans grow cinnamon, tap rubber, pick coconut and pluck tea.
Gileemale is a historical reserve, a symbiosis of man and nature ... where you watch birds' flit to and fro as you listen to the meditative murmurings of the Kalu ganga meandering by, enjoying the soothing atmosphere of Sabaragamuwan community and experience royal hospitality befitting a king, on the foothills of Sri Pada.

Amazing Sri Lankan village experience
We stayed at a really cool hotel on January 24th with my family. It used to be a 300-year-old mansion transformed to a resort. The building looked old but was super clean, and it felt like we stepped back in time.
We did lots of fun things like gem mining, kayaking in the river, and bathing under a mini waterfall. We even tried tea plucking at a nearby tea estate – something the kids had never done before.
The food was amazing! They cooked it using an old-style wood cooker and used spices from their own garden. We tried lots of unique Sri Lankan dishes and had plenty of fresh fruits from the village and their garden.
The staff were really friendly and gave us a taste of true Sri Lankan hospitality. It's a great place to visit, whether you're from another country or a Sri Lankan wanting a break from the city. It feels like a real village experience – a must-visit spot for families who love history, adventure, and tasty food!
