Crugkern Barn is situated at the head of the quiet, picturesque Cot Valley and set between the moorlands of West Penwith and surrounding farmland yet within easy reach of the attractive and vibrant small town of St Just (5 minutes away) with its wide range of local services. Set in the grounds of the owners' home, and within the West Penwith Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Crugkern Barn is a small, tastefully converted barn in a modern style, providing high quality accommodation for 2 people with its own gardens, outdoor seating areas and parking. It is easy to get to by road, or, if you prefer public transport, by rail to Penzance then a short (regular service) bus journey to St Just. It is ideal for those wishing to spend time in the peace and quiet of a rural Cornish valley but with easy access to the other attractions of West Penwith. Sennen Cove, with its half a mile of golden sand is just 10 minutes drive away offering swimming and surfing in a majestic setting, or you may prefer the smaller, secluded coves such as Porth Nanven, where the River Cot meets the Atlantic, or Cape Cornwall. The Cot Valley and adjacent granite sea cliff coast are renowned for their wildlife, and offer stunning coastal walks within easy reach of the barn via a network of quiet lanes and footpaths. It is an ideal base for those wishing to walk sections of the West Penwith leg of the Cornwall Coast Path. Penzance is just 10 minutes drive away, with its wide range of shops and services, and Land's End is a similar distance. Places such as Marazion, St Michael's Mount, the fishing ports of Newlyn and Mousehole and the 'Poldark coast' (where much of the series was filmed) with its rich industrial mining heritage are all within a 15-20 minute drive so there is always something to do or new and interesting places to see. If you fancy a trip to the Scilly Isles then Land's End airport offers regular flights, or you may prefer to go by sea on the Scillonian from Penzance. The barn offers comfortable, high quality accommodation comprising an open-plan bedroom, living room and kitchen area and a separate bathroom with new electric shower, wash basin, WC and heated towel rail. High quality linen and towels are all provided together with complimentary luxury toiletries. The barn enjoys electric heating should you require it. The living area includes a double bed (with under bed storage), a sofa, a TV with integrated DVD player and free WiFi. There is a small table and chairs in the kitchen/dining area or you may prefer to eat outside in the garden. On arrival you will find a 'welcome pack' of tea, coffee, milk and eggs provided together with a loaf of home-made bread and local cheese just to get you started. The kitchen area, with its granite work surfaces and inset sink, is equipped with an electric oven, a four-ring induction hob, a fridge, and matching Dualit toaster and kettle. Outside is under cover storage for beach gear, body boards and anything else you may not want in the barn. There is a BBQ for those fine, summer's evenings in the garden and a washing line to dry your swimming stuff. If you fancy a trip out then we have also provided a 'day sack' which includes a small rucksack, a picnic rug, sandwich box, thermos flask and a local OS map. You are very welcome to use this if needed. The quality of the light in Cornwall has always attracted artists and photographers so if these are your interests then West Penwith could be the place for you. The owner is an artist specialising in silk painting and a member of the Silk Painters Guild. There is a studio adjacent to the barn so if visitors fancy having a go at this art form then silk painting sessions can be arranged. Contact the owner for details. Crugkern Barn is a no smoking area and to ensure minimal disturbance in this wildlife-rich area we are also unable to take pets.

Another amazing holiday
We have just returned home from two glorious weeks at Crugkern Barn, a much anticipated return for our fourth visit and once again, it did not disappoint. Crugkern Barn really is a wildlife haven in a tranquil, rural setting just outside St Just and this year with added interest of Rick’s new beehives and his black bees producing the most gorgeous honey, which we described as Cornish sunshine in a jar. The barn is really home from home with everything you could possibly need, alongside stunning artwork and crafts by Chris and wonderful local pottery for you to use and enjoy. Each morning we were awoken with gentle birdsong and breakfasted on the private courtyard adjacent to your own garden full of an array of stunning plants. Crugkern Barn is truly a stunning place to base yourself for a very memorable holiday. Whether you wish to relax on the beaches, explore the countryside/coastal walks or visit the many beautiful gardens/properties Cornwall has to offer. Chris and Rick are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble and are always happy to recommend places to eat/visit which are often off the beat and track, but showcase Cornwall beautifully.

Hi Elaine. First of all can I say what a pleasure it was to see you and John again after an inevitable break in proceedings courtesy of Covid! Chris and I were delighted that you were able to come to the “Wild West” again and so pleased for you that you had wall-to-wall sunshine for the whole two weeks. What a bonus. We love guests like you who make maximum use of all this lovely area has to offer, visiting old haunts and discovering new ones. See you next year I hope. Rick and Chris :)

A wonderful find
We stayed at Crugkern Barn for 5 nights. Lovely private setting conveniently close to St. Just. The barn is renovated to a high standard and was a perfect base for my boyfriend and I. Rick and Chris are extremely attentive hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. Private parking was helpful and the property adjoined a public footpath. I would highly recommend Crugkern Barn to anyone looking for a picturesque, private location close to many amenities.

Absolutely perfect
Went to Crugkern Barn after being recommended by family who had previously been several times, from the moment we arrived we could see what they loved about the place.A warm welcome from Rick and Chris, and the barn was immaculate in it's own grounds and garden,so very relaxing and peaceful.A very fresh homemade (by Rick) loaf, Cornish Yarg and milk waiting for us,what's not to like. Brilliant location with unspoilt coastal views all very local and the charming town of St Just a mile away .Nothing was too much for our lovely hosts, who were there if you needed them, this is a must do if you are looking to explore this area and want a real treat.

Fantastic location, quiet and yet near lots of locations
We were on our way to the Isles of Scilly but wanted to spend some time in Cornwall instead of just passing through. This was an ideal location, remote and so quiet but near lots of local attractions. Very near Lands End Airport although didn't hear the planes. The hosts were so friendly and helpful. Everything that we needed was there. Top quality equipment. Spotlessly clean. Extremely comfortable bed. Heating when needed. Totally self-contained. Just perfect for us and we will stay there again.

What an idyllic, little gem.
This accommodation is truly a home from home. From the moment we arrived the hosts Rick & Chris were attentive and readily on hand to assist where required. The location was ideal for touring around the peninsular so we were able to visit all the haunts from our youth. We managed to squeeze our holiday in, the week before the second lockdown and consider ourselves very fortunate to have spent it at this stunning property. We cannot recommend it highly enough, a beautiful get away location. Thank you. p.s we will be back.

Chris and I are delighted that you managed to squeeze in your well-earned break before ‘lockdown 2’ kicked in. It was lovely meeting you and we really enjoyed your company. I don’t know quite what it is about this place but it almost always seems to attract guests with similar interest to our own. As we said when you left, you’ll always be welcome here and now we know the sort of places you enjoy visiting we can induct you into the mysteries of some of those ‘secret’ little corners of West Penwith which you may not have been to before. Til then, stay safe, and we hope to see you again soon. Rick and Chris.

Perfect space for a mini-break.
We needed to book a holiday rental for a specific and short period of time-ideally as close to the end of Cornwall as you could go! Crugkern Barn was the perfect solution. Rick and Chris greeted us very warmly and were excellent hosts. They had taken advice and had changed the way in which they operated due to required social distancing. Everything you could possibly need for such a short break was there-often cleverly hidden. The Barn has been beautifully decorated both inside and outside and kept up to date-we appreciated the new shower! Walks were indicated on a local laminated map and, together with our iWalk Cornwall app, we walked several miles each day in spite of the weather! It is an ideal retreat and would love to visit again!

Thank you for your kind words. Chris and I were delighted to be able to have you to stay and get your visit in before ‘lockdown’ made us close again. Thank you for the feedback on the shower. Sounds like our investment in a new one did the business. Needless to say, we’d love to see you again and induct you into the mysteries of some of lesser known, but just as enjoyable Wild West walks.

Easy access to all the attractions in west Cornwall.Lots of lovely touches throughout the accommodation which is why it absolutely lives up to a 5 star rating. Chris and I were delighted that you were able to come to Crugkern and use it as your base to explore this fascinating and unique little corner of Cornwall. Although on the maps it may appear that we are ‘out on a limb’ it is surprisingly accessible on many counts. Just a few minutes drive (or 15 minutes walk) to St Just, 30 minutes walk to the coast and easy access to Penzance. As you say, we often have to pinch ourselves here in our little piece of paradise and say “you know what, we live here”. We never take it for granted. DO come and see us again, we’d love to have you to stay.

Great barn/stay
We enjoyed a fantastic week staying in Crugkern barn. The barn itself was really nice, everything inside is of the highest quality even the toilet tissue. The owners Rik and his wife are very thoughtful, from placing roses on the windowsill to leaving butter, cheese and fresh bread for our enjoyment. Ric was particularly helpful; from giving advice on places to visit, to gardening tips . Unfortunately we never met Mrs Cope ,she is an incredibly busy lady We throughly enjoyed our week there, the setting is beautiful and we will certainly be returning. Mary and Joseph Buzza
