About the neighborhood
Even though you are up in the mountains you are only a few miles from the sea. The best beach in the area is the three mile long Newton beach and dunes near Porthcawl. It stretches all the way around to Ogmore-by-Sea and is always relatively empty. It has the added advantage of being dog friendly. The beach is also used for horse-riding with jet ski and kayaking lesson conducted just offshore. Adventures Wales, near Porthcawl and offers a wide range of activities from paintballing and quad biking to coasteering and gorge scrambling. Adventures Wales website.

How to get there
Airport: Cardiff: 43.5 mi
Railway: Maesteg: 5.0 mi
The quickest way when travelling west from Cardiff along the M4 is to leave the motorway at J36 and take the A4063 via Maesteg. Stick to the same road on the other side of Maesteg and continue through Careau and over the top to the hill at Croserw. As you descend towards the crossroads at Cymmer the house is on the left hand side 50 metres before the junction with the A4107.
