All the beds are provided with mosquito nets, although sightings of mosquitoes are rare in the dry season.
The villa is staffed with a cook, two cleaner/helpers and a gardener/handyman. The staff prepare three meals a day in the villa kitchen, which is separate from the villa. Meals use a variety of fresh local ingredients sourced from the market and local fishermen. Fresh fish, lobster and squid will be available when the fishermen make a catch. The villa has a wood fired pizza oven and the cook will prepare pizza's if requested.
The villa is cleaned daily and the staff will take care of your washing upon request in the villa laundry.

Interaction with guests: The villa is managed by Sani, a local who speaks excellent English and who has many years experience in the tourist industry in Rote. Sani will check in daily to take care of any special requests or questions and will make sure that the other staff, whose English is variable, understand your requirements. Sani is also available by phone (the staff will call him) if needed. Sani is a government registered tour guide and can make your stay special by organising visits to local sights and cultural events.
I generally don’t bother writing reviews but this time felt compelled to do so.
Our family of 4 had an amazing time at the villa and in Nembrala.
From the villa to the staff to the food, everything deserves a 10 out of 10
Amazing energy among the staff who are discrete and efficient. A pleasure meeting them, sharing laughs a trying to learn some Rotenese 😉 everyone always smiling and helpful!
Every single meal was delicious (I’m Italian and unfortunately a bit fussy...😂.) Quality and portions exceeded expectations. Yummy, healthy, fresh vegetables, fish.....
You might even get a crayfish if you are lucky ...
Sani who oversees the operations was super helpful and always a phone call away.
We have spent a wonderful time, made feel like being at home and made some new local friends

An exceptional memorable holiday in a very special location.
We loved our stay at Villa Tunggaoen. Right on the beach, the Villa is a delight.
Downstairs is very well appointed with a great living room, kitchen, and spacious verandah. The downstairs bedroom is comfortable with a nice outlook and bathroom.
The upstairs bedrooms have panoramic views of the sea and the second bathroom.
The beach has crystal clear water, lots of sea life and is protected by a coral reef. Lovely to watch pigs searching for food on the beach and reef.
The captain of the Villa's boat took us out to an off shore break where we were able to watch the surfers catch the large waves for hundreds of metres.
Staff were delightful, cheerfully cooking us delicious, healthy and tasty meals and looking after all the daily housework. (An external main kitchen is used by the staff.)
There are nice restaurants and cafes to enjoy nearby. Also relaxing massage salons. We enjoyed walks, local markets, scenic drives, watching a village soccer tournament.
We will be back.

About the neighborhood
The villa is located right on Tunggaoen beach, a beautiful, white sand beach fronting a lagoon. Beyond the lagoon are some reef surf breaks that work occasionally.
The villa is set back from the road through a private right of way into the village of Tunggaoen. From the villa the Nemberala Harbour, with boat access to the famous T-land surf break is 5 km to the north, while 4 km to the south is the equally famous Boa right hand break, accessed from the beach. Both are about 10 minutes away on a motor scooter.
2 km to the north is the excellent Narrow Restaurant and Spa, while in Nemberala there is a choice of restaurants, cafes and bars.
Getting around
There are beautiful walks along the beachfront 'jalan' in front of the villa, or, a stroll through Tunggaoen village will have you meet some of the friendly locals.
To go further afield, Sani will organise the rental of scooters, with optional surf board carriers or a car and driver. Sani can also organise for a car to meet you at the airport or ferry terminal. (The cost of scooters and car are additional.)
The villa has its own boat, 'Mane Tua Sain', moored at Sedoen Harbour, just over 10 minutes scooter ride from the villa. The villa tariff includes on surf trip to the reef each day, booked through Sani. Additional trips can be organised at the standard surf boat rate.

The best way to learn how to get to the villa is to contact us and we can help you plan the best travel arrangements to the villa. In short, most guests fly to Kupang, then get either a 30 minute flight or a two hour or so ferry ride to Rote, where we can arrange for you to be picked up by our car and driver and brought to the villa.
