About the neighborhood
The city is rather in the land, which gives it a certain natural and quiet. It consists of Petit-Bourg and Grand-Bourg and owes its name to its troubled stream. In 1871, two sugar factories were completed: Poirier and La Guillot. Its plants will close in the 1970s after the sugar crisis. There is not much tourism in Rivière-Salée, but you can still enjoy a nice visit in the center of Petit-Bourg and also discover the old wooden houses on rue Schoelcher.
