Beautiful Croatia at its best!
What a wonderful place and what wonderful hosts were Ivica, Lidjia, Sven and Branco. Villa Antiqua is beautiful, atmospheric and utterly peaceful - and in such a lovely position in the gorgeous town of Osor and by the sea - perfect! The house is lovely with a rustic air and lovely large flower and butterfly filled garden; it is also very comfortable with all modern amenities, lovely linens and the best equipped kitchen imaginable. The bar-b-que is a lovely traditional stone one with its own pika as well. Ivec and his family were available at all times to offer help and when we needed them to offered help instantly. We would love to return to this 7 star heaven.

perfect spot for a winter escape with a big family
We spend a relaxing chrismas vacation in this comfortable old house
Enough room for the extended family and a dog ! Charming sleepingrooms with excellent beds. The kitchen is newly equipped with sufficient tools for cooking and dining. Nice garden.
Big praise for the heating sysem (important in winter): The fireplace is fuelling the floorheating downstairs and the radiator upstairs.
In winter there is a lot of hiking opportunities around: the south tip of island Cres, osorscica mountain and our favorite, old walking paths around Ustrine.
Resaurants open in Neresine, Mali and Veli Losinj.

Dear Tobias,
thank you very much for your wonderful review and a detailed description of your impression of Villa Antiqua. Most of all, we are very delighted that you chose to spend New Year's Eve in Villa Antiqua together with your family & cute dog, but also enjoyed using hydro-fireplace for heating. We appreciate that you wrote hiking and gastronomy tips so our other guests but also other tourists can use them during their stay at Cres-Losinj archipelago.
Looking forward to your stay in the upcoming years.
Kind regards,
Sonja & Ivica Bulat

Wonderful house with everything you could need for a stay on Cres
Fantastic house with such welcoming and friendly owners. Villa Antiqua had everything we could need and was comfortable and really nicely decorated. Sonja and Ivaca welcomed us with a bottle of wine and were always on hand, even joining us 1 evening for a drink and telling us more about the island and town. The kitchen was great and the garden beautiful and relaxing. We can't recommend it highly enough and hope to go back!

Urlaub pur
Wir waren für 1 Woche in der Villa Antiqua. Es war alles perfekt. Alles sehr sauber und wirklich alles da, was man braucht.

Wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings
I was looking for a comfortable place to go to with my husband, toddler and my baby. We spent a wonderful 10 days in Villa Antiqua, enjoying the house but also very much the garden in beautiful croatian surroundings. I was especially thankful for the big tree that provided shade in the garden as it was extremely hot outside for our baby. The house was squeaky clean upon our arrival, and we were greeted by a friendly host who did everything to make our stay a real pleasure. I warmly recommend!

Very nice Villa in Osor, kind owners
The Villa Antiqua is a really nice house in Osor. You have a garden with a lot of shadow and enough space for everybody. Within a 10 min. walk there are two little places to swim in the ocean and if you walk a bit further there are some nice places to discover.
The house itself is fully equipped and has air con in the upper sleeping rooms. Me and my family slept in the big sleeping room upstairs. The beds are a bit old and very soft - so for my back, a newer and harder one would be better - but this is, of course, only my opinion. Nebertheless we slept very, very well. The air con is a very good one.
If we come back to Osor, we will rent the Villa again!!

Marvellous stay at Villa Antiqua
We, 3 adults and one child, spent some wonderful days at Villa Antiqua. The house is in good shape, very clean and extremely well equipped. Ivica welcomed us although we arrived late and furnished us will all relevant information. The garden with the old trees is an oasis. The property is only 2 minutes walk away from the most lovely town square of Osor. And it is the perfect starting point to discover the Islands of Cres and Losinj with its incredibly lovely beaches and villages. We appreciated our stay very much and would like to come back again.

About the neighborhood
The Osor portage, which is supposed to have been much wider than it is today, has been inhabited since prehistoric times due to its strategic importance, as evidenced by numerous finds, especially near the town of Osor. In the antique era Osor was an important transit station that provided shelter for ships, which at the time sailed mainly along the coast. It is worth noting that Osor is one of our oldest cities and the first one recorded in written history. Furthermore, the historical Amber route passed through here and connected our coast with the Baltic. The name is probably of Illyrian origin and its transformation can be traced since Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Latin records to modern day Italian and Croatian terms: Apsoros, Apsorus, Opsare, Absortium, Osero and Osor. Some archaeologists believe ships overcame the Osor portage by sailing or being towed across the coast in the shallow water to the east of the city, and that the area was covered later. This is concluded from the composition of the city walls and the fact that Osor does not have a port except in the Bijar Bay to the northwest and the muddy shallow Jaz to the southeast where salt pans used to lay. Very early, probably in the Roman period, to the west, in solid rock beneath the city walls, a tunnel was dug by the name Cavata (Croatian Kavuada), today Kavanela. This canal was the cause of the great ascent of Osor and later its decline. Osor was first a Liburnian settlement which collaborated with Greeks. The Romans took it over 167. BC and fortified it according to the Illyrian wall line. The discovered remains from the Roman period include the remains of the main streets (kardo and dekumanus), public buildings, sewers and water supply and a necropolis across the canal, on the Lošinj side. It is believed this was the most prosperous time of the city as remnants of Illirians, the new Roman-Italian population, and many emigrants from the east, mostly prominently Greeks, lived there. Even the writer Alberto Fortis wrote that the town had 20 000 inhabitants, which is probably very exaggerated, but it is possible that several thousand lived in the Roman Apsorus. During the 5th century Osor was briefly under the rule of Ostrogoths, and with the beginning of the 6th century it was annexed to Dalmatia thus becoming a part of the Byzantine Empire. It is believed a diocese was founded in Osor around that time (530. AD on the synod in Salona). The city was raided by the Saracens in 841. and again, even worse, by the Genovese during the 14th century. In the 10th century Osor recognized the authority of Croatian rulers, in 1000. AD it came under Venetian rule, and in 1105. the Croatian-Hungarian king recognized it as a city with corresponding privileges.
