On a lovely quiet village road, but close to so many interesting places in and near Limburg (Maastricht, Valkenburg, vineyards, castles, Germany, Belgium, and even a trout farm), amid lovely country surroundings sits Greenwoods Cottage.
Cottage is a bit of a misnomer as the place lives more like a house. There is a large comfortable living room which is lovingly furnished (great books, guides, CD's and DVD's included) and has a view up the road and to the front garden; a full kitchen stocked with cookware, utensils, condiments and matching dishes; a loo and wonderful strong shower separate from each other; and two very private wonderful bedrooms (one in an amazing loft space with skylights). The entire "cottage" is fresh, immaculate, light and bright.
As wonderful as the facilities and location are, the best part was our hosts, the Archers. Living right next door, they provide guests with the perfect balance of helpfulness, graciousness, privacy, solitude and independence. They know the area intimately and can provide expert suggestions for things to do and see according to one's interests. Whether popular places and sights or off the beaten path locales and experiences, lovely villages and towns, fine and casual dining, historic sites and buildings, walking and hiking paths, etc., they know all about it. One could spend months at Greenwoods without seeing and doing everything the Archers know and can advise about.
Finally, not only are Eddie and Ruth Archer supremely generous and knowledgeable hosts, they are charming, good-humored, interesting, multi-lingual and totally delightful human beings.
It was a great gift to be able to stay at Greenwoods Cottage and to be in the company of the Archers.
