Located in the beautiful Vendée, part of the Loire region, our 'petit chateau' is steeped in history. Far more than your standard self-catering gites, we offer a spacious and luxurious setting for your holiday.
The ideal base for your vacation in south Vendée with easy access to many key tourist attractions - Puy du Fou, 'Green Venice' Marais Poitevin, Mervent Forest with great outdoor pursuits, Futuroscope, La Rochelle, Vouvant and other historic beautiful towns and the spectacular Atlantic coast with it's wonderful beaches and maritime activites, all within an hour away. There is also the amazing Loire valley - famous for its incredible wine and breathtaking chateaux's and gardens.

Bookings for up to 4 persons will only offer the open plan main lounge, dining and kitchen area. This is supplemented by 2 bedrooms, both with a King Size bed and ensuite shower-room. There is no opportunity for further beds in this area.
Should the third bed/bedroom be required, a booking should be made for 5/6 persons. This will also provide the second lounge area. As well as having an ensuite shower room, this mezzanine bedroom has a SuperKing size bed.

Fabulous stay
Lovely location, fabulous host. We had everything we needed and its in a lovely area with plenty to do. Comfy beds, clean and spacious Gite that feels luxurious and beautifully furnished. Thank you :-)

Very highly recommend - can't wait to return.
A very enjoyable stay with Pauline in a beautiful part of France. Excellent road biking from the house and close enough to the coast to breathe sea air for a day. Pauline is an excellent host who made us feel welcome and part of the family.

Beautiful Escape
My husband and I were lucky enough to find Chateau Le Retail on our search for a French getaway. It was such a relaxing experience, in beautiful countryside.
The hosts, Pauline and Doug, couldn't have done more for us. They were really happy to help and their local knowledge was invaluable during our stay. They were kind enough to book some wine tastings on the Vendee wine trail for us and made some fantastic recommendations for trips to La Rochelle and Vouvant, both of which were beautiful.
All in all we felt thoroughly relaxed and had such a peaceful stay. Thank you!

Beautiful Accommodation
A hidden gem. The surroundings and accommodation are beautiful. Really nicely restored gites with first class facilities. The owner Pauline is extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. Will look forward to returning.

Genuine 5 star accommodation in La Vendee
It’s not often that a place is even better than the photos and reviews!! The gite at ChateauLeRetail is an absolute gem! Tastefully and beautifully decorated, everything is top quality, with great attention to detail and nothing forgotten. Combine this with the best of hosts who make you feel so welcome and at home, what more could you want?! Will definitely go back.

Fantastic
What a fantastic gite in a beautiful location with a wonderful host!! What more could you ask for? The gite is well presented with everything you need and more. Lots of lovely places to visit within an hour or two so plenty to see and do. Highly recommend!!

Perfect Accommodation & Great Hosts
Highly recommended place to spend a vacation with spotlessly clean and fully equipped accommodation.
Douglas and Pauline are first class hosts who really know the local area and are happy to help, if needed, with information on the local attractions.
We can't thank them enough for helping to make our time there so enjoyable.

Fantastic French style with Great British hosts
We had a fantastic time at Chateau Le Retail. The building is simply magnificent with classic French style and real flair, combined with comfortable, modern facilities. This is the best place I have stayed in France for sure. Both Pauline and Doug were wonderful hosts, charming and very supportive. They helped us make the most of our stay and offer great hospitality. Shame we were only there for a couple of days as in the end it became a home from home, would like to have stayed longer and will definitely re-book again as there is still more to see and do in the area and this is a great place to use as a base. Highly recommend Le Retail.

Perfect accommodation for our pre-Christmas party with friends.
Chateau Le Retail was the ideal setting for our pre-Christmas get-together with friends. The gites were perfect - beautifully clean, spacious and totally catered for all our needs. Many thanks to Pauline and Douglas, our lovely hosts. With their help and advice we were lucky enough to visit some of the local Craft Fairs and Christmas Markets.
We had a very enjoyable holiday. Can’t wait to do it all again.
