Beautiful accommodation with stunning scenery
This was our 3rd time staying at Haras du Gazon. We have also stayed in the Gite here called Alme
It’s truly a wonderful place. The owners are very friendly and have thought of everything in the accommodation. The children are free to roam and even use bikes that can be found in the games room. It’s so peaceful with stunning scenery but also close to many tourist attractions.
We love it here and enjoy seeing the horses and their foals up close.
We can highly recommend

Fabulous family holiday
We had a fabulous half term break as a family group of 16 staying in Cor de la Brier and Double Espoir. These gites are beautifully converted and stocked with everything you could need. The pool was a particular hit with both the children and adults alike. The whole estate is stunning and we loved getting to know the horses too. The area has lots to do and we particularly enjoyed the markets, Falaise castle and Normandy beaches. Anne and Tim are friendly and informative hosts where nothing is too much trouble. We would highly recommend any of the gites at Haras du gazon and hope to visit again soon.

Comfortable, family friendly gites set in wonderful grounds
We, a large family group with ages ranging from 3 to 80, had a wonderful week staying in Baloubet, Cor de la Brière and Double Espoir. There was something for everyone. The younger ones loved visiting the horses and made good use of the games room and the swimming pool. Older members played tennis, cycled or walked along quiet lanes with verges full of wildflowers, played boules or sat in the sun on Balobet’s balcony watching the swans on the lake. The kitchens are very well-equipped so cooking and eating were a pleasure. The living room of Double Espoir was easily large enough for our group of 22 to sit and eat together, and to entertain ourselves in the evening. Favourite excursions were to the castle in Falaise, to Bayeux and to the Chateau de Vendeurve, as well as to markets and the inevitable hypermarket. Our hosts, Ann and Tim, were most welcoming and helpful. All three gîtes are spacious, comfortable and maintained to a very high standard. I think we will return to Haras du Gazon. In particular, a week in the peace and comfort of Baloubet would be a wonderful restorative at any season of the year.

About the neighborhood
The Haras is on the border of two scenic areas of Normandy -the rural Pays D'Auge and the more rugged Suisse Normande.
Try one or more of these ideas for exploring them:

1. Local circular 10km walk/cycle starting at our gates and following the quiet country lanes and greenways: 'Route des Haras'- passing by our neighbour, the famous thoroughbred horse stud: Fresnay-le-Buffard.

2. Evening boat cruise on nearby Rabodanges lake with wonderful candlelit dinner onboard.

3. Circular drive: 'Route de la Suisse Normande' - starting at nearby Falaise and taking in the local beauty spots and natural heritage of this region on a signposted easy 75km route just to the west of the Haras. You could perhaps take a break by Culey le Patry and hire a donkey or two for a walk through the forest. This is great fun for all ages - the quiet Cotentin donkeys will carry a picnic and even small children as well!

4. Cycle ride or hike on greenways( no motorised traffic) along the Veloroute Côte Fleurie Pays D'Auge: section 'Mezidon-Canon à Lisores': a beautiful broad track along the La Vie river valley passing by half timbered manor houses, apple orchards, herds of spotted Normande cows.

5. 'La Route des Saveurs' a drive of discovery of the lovely Pays d' Auge, taking in the ville de charme of historic Orbec with its famous ' Au Caneton' restarant, St Pierre Sur Dives with its The Monday market in the medieval hall : a marché traditionnel reserved for local producers of eggs cheese, cream honey and organic vegetables and Livarot with the fabulous ( multilingual) tour of the Graindorge Cheese factory where you can see local cheeses being made.

6. Hire canoes or kayaks for an hour or two or perhaps half day descent of the Orne river from Thury- Harcourt or Clécy.

7. Visit the Château de Falaise – medieval castle and birthplace of William the Conqueror. Tour on your own with digital tablets which display the rooms in augmented reality
8. Go horseriding – many stables in the region offer guided hacks for all levels either through the forests of the Suisse Normande or on the beach up at the Channel coast.
9. Carriage ride – drawn by percheron horses through the Grimbosq forest.
10 Theme park Festyland near Caen – about 30 Viking and dinosaur and pirate themed rides.
11. Quad bike rambling for the family at the EIA circuit near Pont L'Eveque.
14. Cooking class – at le Ptit Chef in Caen – private for 2 or more with subject of your choice or join a (French speaking) class. Children's classes also available.
15. Haras du Pin – National Horse stud built in 17th century. Open every day but the best time to visit is on Thursday afternoons in the summer there is a parade to music of some of the best horses.
16. The Three Castle circular bike ride or car trip (46km) around Mortrée visiting Châateau de Sassy, Château de Medavy, Château d'O and the ancienne Abbatiale de Ste Opportune at Almenêches.
17. Visit the only vineyard in Normandy – Les Arpents du Soleil near St Pierre sur Dives
18. Golf courses – at nearby Garcelles or Clecy
19. Visit the fabulous Musée Malraux in Le Havre. Monet painted his 'Impression Soleil levant' from a position just in front of the museum's site
20. Stock up at local open air produce markets every day of the week .
