Le Mas
The large well-equipped kitchen (55m²) is the centre of the house, great for family meals where 12 people can sit comfortably around the table. The centuries-old larder and stone evier (basin) built into the exposed stone walls just add to the character of the kitchen. It is well-equipped with: a Smeg cooker with 5 gas burners and large electric oven; Samsung dishwasher and washing machine; a Siemens fridge freezer; and a Nespresso machine and Aeroccino milk frother.
The terracotta floor tiles lead to the living room (44m²), which like the kitchen has exposed beams, an enormous fireplace with a wood burner (wood provided) and doors leading outside to the pool and summer kitchen. There are 3 large comfortable sofas and plenty of games and books to enjoy.
If you want to catch up on the news or watch a film there is a flat screen satellite TV with English channels. There is a portable speaker which you can hook your phone, tablet or laptop to via Bluetooth.
Two bedrooms are on the ground floor at opposite ends of the house, each with two single beds and en suite bathrooms with showers. One of these bedrooms is wheelchair accessible, as is the majority of the rest of the ground floor and outside area. The other three bedrooms are accessed via two staircases. The first staircase leads to a double-aspect bedroom and en suite bathroom with shower. The main staircase goes from the kitchen up to the two large gabled master bedrooms (33m² and 23m²).
The master bedrooms have wooden floors, beautiful original beams and are light and bright. Windows have views to the fields and woods beyond, being the perfect lookout for deer, birds of prey and wild boars. Both master bedrooms have large en suite bathrooms with showers and free-standing baths.
Opposite the kitchen is the covered summer kitchen (65m²). Originally a barn, it still retains the roof but is partly open on three sides, affording you shade and a cool breeze. There is a small kitchen area with sink, fridge and a Weber 3 burner gas barbecue (gas provided). A large dining table, 12 chairs and comfortable seating make it the perfect setting for long lunches, escaping the sun or spending time together late into the night, with atmospheric lighting.
Le Mazet
Approached from the garden, Le Mazet has steps to the front door, which opens into the living room and open kitchen (36m²) on the upper ground floor. It is a sunny room, with deep-set windows on all four sides, a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and a large fireplace with a log burner. It has everything you need to relax – a comfortable sofa, dining table and chairs, satellite TV with English channels, DVD player, portable Bluetooth speaker and free WiFi.
There is a modern kitchen equipped to ensure an easy and enjoyable stay, with a dishwasher, oven, fridge, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster and kettle.
Steps lead down from the living room to the lower ground floor bedroom with an en suite bathroom. There is a kingsize bed, dressing table and chair, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The spacious bathroom has a walk-in shower, sink, toilet, washing machine and heated towel radiator.
There are games to play in the garden (table tennis, boules, swingball, badminton rackets and shuttlecocks, children’s croquet) and the pool to enjoy. The 9 x 4 meter pool has a deep and a shallow end, with steps down into the water for easy access (no awkward ladder). It’s positioned to take in the view over the fields and woods beyond, so lie back on the sun loungers and deck chairs and enjoy it! If you are seeking solitude there are several private spots in the garden. The pool is not heated, and for that reason is closed from November to May.
We are delighted that Le Mas has been awarded 5 stars by the Dordogne Perigord Tourist Board, on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism, and Le Mazet 4 stars. There are only 15 other hotels and gites in the Dordogne with 5 stars. The classification is based on the facilities, space, state of the accommodation and information we offer guests.

If you need anything during your stay - advice on where to go and what to do, or a table to be booked at a restaurant - just come and ask.
Sheer perfection in all regards - a luxurious, welcoming and comfortable place to stay surrounded by beautiful country
We stayed in Le Mas & Le Mazet in early August 2021.
Everything was perfect.
The houses are luxurious and comfortable. The outside areas could not be better - the pool is superb with amazing views across the most beautiful countryside, and the outdoor barn with BBQ is a great place to enjoy al fresco dining.
The surrounding area is a joy to explore with interesting bastide towns full of winding alleys, great restaurants and mysterious alleys.
But the piece de resistance of Les Mas & Le Mazet are the owners and hosts Rupert and Franck. They have poured their love into the property and this shows everywhere. They were welcoming, friendly and amazingly helpful all the way through the trip from recommending restaurants, to organising PCR tests to allowing our children to play with their lovely dog, Plum.
We loved this place so much we re-booked immediately.
Thank you Rupert and Franck.

Pretty much our favourite place in the world
We love Le Mas & Le Mazet and try to visit every year. Rupert & Franck have done a brilliant job to create somewhere truly special. The property is beautifully presented and incredibly comfortable. It is so peaceful and private, with an outstanding view to enjoy the sunset. We can't wait to return.

Nice place, but....
I rank this as a weak 4 compared to other villas that we have stayed at in Italy, Portugal, Bali.
The owners have done a good job in the restoration, but there are a few problem areas that should not be there for the price. The pictures are all lovely, but here is what we all observed and remarked on.
Poor wifi. Slow and not found in some areas.
No AC. Although we were there in September, I cannot begin to image what it is like in summer.
No dryer, so when it was raining you have to use drying rack in the summer kitchen. Not attractive nor speedy.
Flies, wasps and mosquitos - no screens. Can't open windows to cool off or the house gets infested. They said it is due to the need to access the shutters, but on other side of the house has no shutters. It became a running joke as to how many flies we could kill. And, one day a bird flew in (but got out after a few minutes).
Creaky upstairs wooden floors.. This would be quite problematic in the two lower bedrooms at night.
Please be aware that the owners house is 10m right outside your front door. Although they try to be discreet, they are still around. A bit fussy in that they re-arrange chairs and even smooth the gravel driveway out after a car leaves. I much prefer a place where the owners are offsite.
Also, a bit of form over function. They have a wooden table in the salon that requires coasters for drinks, otherwise you get rings. Who does that?

Beautiful and peaceful
We recently stayed at Le Mas & Le Mazet with a multi-generational group of 12 including 4 children aged 4 & 6. The properties are stunning, very well thought through and incredibly peaceful. The setting is beautiful and the views are lovely. Rupert and Frank have done a fantastic job of thinking through everything that guests need and their attention to detail is perfect. There is a big selection of outdoor games and activities, indoor games for rainy days and an incredibly well stocked kitchen. We had a very lovely time here and it would definitely be top of our list for any future France travel plans and can't wait to visit again when the new pool is installed.

Simply Idyllic!
What Rupert and Franck have created in Le Mas & Le Mazet is the perfect retreat for a chilled holiday. We haven't had such a relaxing experience for a long time.
Surrounded by the beautiful countryside, with the most amazing crimson sunsets, Le Mas / Mazet is a piece of paradise. The hospitality shown by the guys is fantastic, but subtle - allowing you to relax, and enjoy the tranquility of the French countryside.
This is perfect for families, friends or couples. Sit back and enjoy the country views, use the summer kitchen, relax by / in the pool - or go for a walk or a leisurely drive.
We also particularly loved Monpazier - a beautiful village within a short drive.
Ah yes, we'll be back! Bien sur!

Schitterend
Aanrader! Proficiat en dank aan Rupert en Franck!

A classy place to relax in the heart of the rural Dordogne
Despite medoicre weather we spent a marvellous week at Le Mas & Le Mazet with our friends. While the description on the website is a true reflection of reality we were impressed with the owners' (Frank and Ruppert) attention for the details in equipping their property. The presence and presentation of basics such as towels, soaps, cleaning products in every room; the "friendly bar" with decent quality local wines and Nespresso; the abundant presence of tableware; the quality of the bedding and the linen; the gas BBQ and the lighting in the large, outside, covered dining area with nice views; the Bluetooth speaker;... The similar quality of the different bedrooms made it rather easy to divide the rooms over the (equally sharing) couples. It helped that we had one single person in the room where the beds can not be put side by side. The area is extremely quiet, shops are at a distance of about 10 km's but there's a daily delivery of bread if ordered the previous night. The sun was absent most of the time but that didn't hinder our cycling trips in the nice surrounding landscape and little villages.

5 star comfort in beautiful location
We celebrated my parents 40th wedding anniversary here (8 adults, 4 children) and it was everything we had hoped for...that great balance of enjoying rustic remote France without sacrificing on comfort, it really does feel like 5 star luxury in the Dordogne. Rupert and Franck were great hosts, providing recommendations pre-arrival, booking local restaurants, organising a private chef, thinking of just about everything that guests would require in the house and being on hand to help and answer questions (but without imposing on guests privacy). The location, views and buildings themselves are beautiful and the kids loved exploring all the different areas of the garden. We rented both houses, which gives those staying in Le Mazet some separation if desired and equally there a number of different benches/areas of the garden to relax and read your book. Given the facilities (e.g. pool, games area (with table tennis and darts), summer kitchen, hammock, well stocked games and books etc) it was very easy to just stay on site and relax, but there are numerous villages and activities within a half hour drive which Rupert and Franck can recommend. Thank you again for a great week.

Beautiful houses in stunning location
We stayed here in mid August 2017 and were overwhelmed by the simple elegance of the houses set in a naturally breath taking setting. The rooms are quite stunning with modern fixtures cleverly complimenting the old buildings and their features and ensuring every comfort has been catered for. The hosts are charming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We particularly liked the daily bread delivery. Lovely wild flower meadows surround the houses and the sunsets were beautiful. We'll definitely return.

There is much to explore in the area. Markets selling local produce and antiques. Castles, churches and prehistoric caves, famous wineries, and restaurants serving the region’s specialities (such as truffles, duck and foie gras). There are stunning walks and cycle routes on the doorstep; canoeing, golf, horse riding. We are very happy to advise on what to do and where to go.
