DESCRIPTION
Hidden down a long track, this old farmhouse really is the middle of nowhere. Set in substantial grounds, there are good views from every window and a babbling brook runs right alongside it. The water comes from a nearby spring and the air is so clean you can see the Preseli Mountains 30 miles away.
You’ll enter via the porch where you can leave your coats and boots as well as meet the resident cat Chick Pea. You then come into a large and warm old farmhouse kitchen where the wood-fired Rayburn range cooker takes pride of place. There are slate worktops, exposed beams, quarry tiles with underfloor heating and all the facilities are discreet (dishwasher/microwave etc) so it’s just like walking into a per...

Terrible
Robins Realm, what can I say!!
I stayed in the cottage with 2 friends for a long weekend, got home eventually last night.
The cottage and surrounding countryside are beautiful.
The down side;
1. The oven and grill didn't work and the was mouldy food in the grill.
2. There was no hot water or heating and the log burner wasn't sufficient to heat the cottage. No way to wash without boiling water in pans or kettles.
3. Not enough sausepans or utensils and nearly all of them were dirty and had to be washed before they could be used.
4. The whole cottage wasn't properly clean.
5. We took the used linen off the beds and stacked them with the towels, but Robin blocked the track with his tractor and wouldn't let us leave until we remade the beds, cleaned and hoovered the house and filled the log basket.
He tried to force us to write in his guest book!!
He knew one of our friends and felt he had the right to very rudely bully us and keep us there for more than an hour before he would move the tractor and let us go.
It was extremely distressing and I would never stay there again.
I read previous reviews which is what helped to decide to drive the 4 hours to get there.
This sadly has been my worst holiday let experience ever. We lost the last day of our break because of Robin's behaviour.
I'm a trained and experienced counsellor for more than 25 years, and in my opinion think Robin is mentally unwell.

PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU HAVE YOUNG CHILDERN OR ELDERLY IN YOUR GROUP OR IF YOU WANT SOMEWHERE CLEAN AND SAFE
This property is not as advertised. Many false and misleading claims are made and the owner has not been honest and transparent about the property and its shortfalls. The property is in no way suitable for young children or the elderly (both of which we had in our party) for the following reasons; very steep steps in cottage which my elderly mother fell down and had to be taken away in an ambulance on day 2, it was unavoidable using the stairs as the bathroom was downstairs and the advertised sofa bed was filthy and unusable, open sewers right outside the cottage which one of the children in our party nearly fell down and we recently discovered the septic tank has only just been installed and in doing so led to a very large leak right outside the cottage, open excavations around the site which were not marked off and could have led to another accident, dangerous power tools being left around, drugs paraphernalia found by the hot tubs, the advertised games room was in an outbuilding completely unsuitable for children. My mother suffered serious head and back injuries and was too unwell to travel home otherwise we would have left.
General hygiene and cleanliness standards
The cleaner was there when we arrived but not sure if she cleaned anything. We spent most of the next day (once we could see it in the light) cleaning as we felt very uncomfortable with the levels of hygiene. The owner told us his cleaners had let him down and his regular cleaner was unwell. We had to clean the fridge as it was unfit to put our food in and the freezer compartment was tiny and only really suitable for ice and not for a party of 11 who wanted to cook. The microwave was full of mould and needed scrubbing, the bathroom had used razors in it presumably the owners or the previous guests.
The rooms were dusty and mouldy. The mirrors had neve been cleaned in fact I thought they were deliberately vintage mirrors until I wiped a cloth over them and realised it was just grime. This made us feel very uncomfortable especially during COVID times. We would have liked to have left on day 2 but my mum was too poorly after falling down the unsafe stairs to endure the 6 hour drive home. The owner left the night we arrived for a week so we were unable to speak to him directly about our concerns except over WhatsApp but he said he was unable to send a cleaner. We also learned from the neighbour that the owner had organised a rave some weeks before which made us feel even more uncomfortable about whether the place has been cleaned or not following so many visitors.
Meat Free claims
When we arrived we made a point of asking the owner if we could give the dogs raw meat and he said yes. He even asked us to buy some cat food for him when we went to the supermarket which we did. Whilst there I called the owner to ask if the cat food for his cat had to be meat free and he said no! So, we bought meat based cat food for his cat which he has asked us to feed while he was away.
False Advertising
Both the farmhouse and the cottage do not sleep as many people as advertised. In the cottage he has created a mezzanine level to put a bed on with very steep steps down which I am sure would not pass building regs and caused my elderly mother to fall and suffer serious injuries. The sofa bed in the cottage which she would have used was filthy and dusty and could not be used.
Therefore in our view the cottage only sleeps 2 people max. The farmhouse also advertised a ‘vintage’ sofa bed which sleeps two. On opening it was dirty and unstable and very clear it could not sleep 2 adults! My 12 year old son slept on it for a few nights until we have to move him due to the mould in the room. This meant that we could not accommodate our guests and people had to sleep on floors on in the outbuilding which was unfit for humans in my view.
The adverts state enhanced clean and this is clearly as fallacy (please read comments on hygiene above). The whole place was filthy.
The oven was broken so it was hard to use it. The owner used it on our arrival night when he cooked for us (which he took a picture of) but then told us not to use it. He kept apologising and making excuses about everything. It wasn’t until the morning when the owner had gone that we realised how dirty the whole place was. The pots and pans were all filthy and needed cleaning again.
You could not use the shower upstairs as it leaked through the ceiling. So really you were down to one inside bathroom in a house that allegedly sleeps 11 but only really sleeps 9 at a push.
The rooms were cramped and mouldy and needed a lick of paint. There was nowhere to put any of your things the wardrobe in the master bedroom was locked. There were no shelves in the bathroom to put anything out. The mattresses were very old and uncomfortable and not suitable for anyone with back issues.
The outbuilding where the pool table is was not shown in the pictures and for good reason. It was full of junk and tools which was completely unsafe for children although the pictures show children using the pool table it is not made clear where it is and what surrounds it!
There are burnt out cars and vehicles on the property which are obviously not pictured.

Paradise in the hills !!
I would recommend staying here to anyone looking for a country getaway !
There is a large selection of rooms, so Robin was able to cater for our large group!
It is nestled in a lovely valley, down a long track, with beautiful views of the rural welsh countryside !
The accommodation was brilliant , a lovely cottage , or rooms in the large farm house.
with vegetarian and vegan food fit for the gods, I would highly recommend this peaceful place to anyone and everyone who wants a time out !
Walks lead straight from the property, it’s not too far to the local shop!
And the host (Robin) was always happy to offer advice on places to eat, walks or activities ! , and had a great knowledge of the local area,
He really completed our trip!
And on top of this there is even a hot tub!
I would 100% stay here again , and can’t recommend robin and his countryside realm highly enough!
Many thanks , we will be back!

Cookery course by a Vegan Jedi in the most beautiful Welsh surroundings
My recent stay at Robins Realm was above and beyond what I expected. As a novice Vegan, I wanted to learn how I could hone in on my cooking skills (not that there was much there to begin with!) and really get back to basics with food. As a solo traveller I was nervous, but Robin really is the most welcoming host. I immediately felt at ease and knew I would have a wonderful stay. The course was excellent from start to finish, and Robins knowledge is invaluable. I learnt to cook various dishes and Robin taught me lots of handy tips and ways to be creative with food. The farmhouse itself is authentic and homely and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The views alone from the farmhouse are absolutely breath-taking. I would recommend Robins Realm to anyone who is curious about meat-free cooking, or even someone who already is vegan and would like to learn more. You will not be disappointed!

New Year in Wales
My big bunch of friends decided to get out of the city for New year and we booked Robin's realm as there was room for all of us! We had the most fantastic time even if the weather wasn't great. The location was great with walks straight from the front door and we were very snug with the underfloor heating and wood burning stove! Robin was very helpful with hints and tips for local places to visit and I for one would love to return to explore the area more! The hot tub was a definite bonus ! Fantastic location and fantastic host!

About the neighborhood
The farmhouse is in lush countryside overlooking a mountain and forests. There are plenty of sheep but very few houses, this really is a hidden gem.
You are within half an hour of unspoilt beaches, romantic castles and wild wilderness.
Getting around
Really you need a car or bike to stay here although it is possible on public transport. The nearest bus and train stations are Carmarthen, Aberystwyth or Llandovery. There is a good connecting bus service to Llanybydder and I can usually collect guests from there.
