About the neighborhood
Leenane is a small village with a population of about 100.Set at the head of Killary Harbour, the only Ffiord in Ireland, It relies mainly on tourism but there are still working farms in the area. There is a pleasant mix of locals and holiday home owners and all live well together. There are two churches RC and Cof I a local clinic a small library. is also available to visitors. Several beaches are within easy driving distance (15-25 mins) there is great choice and they are very sparcely populated because of abundance and size. With golden sands and aquamarine rollers they are ideal for swimming, windsurfing or just picnicing. The Twelve Bens are close to Leenane and the Victorian Gardens of Kylemore Abbey 15 minutes away. Ashford Castle at Cong is 45 minutes and well worth the trip. W... more
