This year commemorates that tragic event 100 years ago. *Tralee Town' and it's Geraldine Museum and more. *Killarney Town' - Muckross House, Killarney's Lakes and the surrounding area - Take a trip with a jarvey in a jaunting car. *Castlemaine is a town you may pass through - but wait - this was the birthplace of 'The Wild Colonial Boy' - Jack Duggan was his name - famed in the Australian balled of the same name. *The Ring of Kerry Drive - absolutely fabulous - and then back over the scenic Connor Pass *Cross over the Shannon River into County Clare to visit the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren *Crag Cave - 30 minutes away discovered in 1983 and thought to be over 1 million years old. *Take the short trip to Asdee, a neat little village between Ballylongford and Ballybunion. Home of the wild west outlaw Jesse James. His father emigrated from here to Missouri where young Jesse was born on September 5th 1847. *Ballybunion Golf Course' - if it's good enough for Bill Clinton and Tiger Woods to play a round here...... *Ballybunion Surf School' - With four miles of golden blue flagged beaches, Ballybunion offers waves for beginners, intermediates and the wild Atlantic cliff break provides exhilarating surf for the seriously advanced. *Dromin Equestrian Centre is just a few minutes from us. *Salmon and Trout Fishing on the River Feale - the river meanders around the town of Listowel. *Listowel Golf Course and a Pitch and Putt Course are a few minutes from here. We sincerely hope this has given you an idea of how well positioned we are, here in Listowel, to enjoy many local amenities and wonderful day trips to fantastic scenic drives and cultural locations. Return after your trip, relax and later. maybe stroll to the town for some 'craic agus ceol' - fun and music. Derry House is actually 300 metres off the main Listowel to Tarbert Road and in a quiet cul-de-sac. The road has five other family homes along it, all professional people, and we are the end house. Situated in County Kerry, Listowel is designated a Heritage Town and is twinned with:- Los Gatos, California, USA, Listowel, Ontario, Canada, Shawnee, Kansas, USA, Downpatrick in Northern Ireland, Panissiers in France Michalowice in Poland There are also Kerry links with Galicia in Spain. Listowel – (Lios Tuathail - The Fort of Tuathail) was an earthen fort. Listowel's history goes back to the 12th century with the Listowel Castle and the Fitzmaurice family. Listowel is a famous literary town and frequently called The Literary Capital of Ireland. Annually, in May/June it hosts Writers' Week, a literary festival overflowing with art, drama, poetry, film, music and story telling. Local man, John B. Keane, wrote many well-known short stories and plays about Irish life. One of his stories, 'The Field', ended up on the big screen and starred Richard Harris, John Hurt and Sean Bean A few miles from the town, a local man, Maurice Walsh, penned a book with a well known title - 'The Quiet Man', which was adapted and turned into a Hollywood film starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. A few miles up the road is the town of Foynes. The same actress, Maureen O'Hara, is a patron of the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, largely due to the fact that her late husband, Capt Charlie Blair, was a flying boat pilot and flew the last scheduled flying boat out of Foynes to New York. It was to Foynes that passengers made their way from the flying boats which used to land on the nearby River Shannon. It was also here that our world famous Irish Coffee was invented! *Irish Coffee Making Championships' - this is held annually in Foynes, around June. Visit the Flying Boat museum and perhaps sample a wee drop in a local hostelry. If you do intend travelling out for a few auld pints of Guinness or whatever, locally or a little further afield, John will be happy to drop you there and collect you later to bring you home safely- so no need to worry about drinking and driving - only enjoying yourself! Also, if you need a 'sitting-service' for pets, children or adults, we can take care of that for you. Pet walking/feeding service can also be arranged should you wish to take a day or two away by yourselves. The Listowel Racecourse hosts two horse-racing events each year and the race course is only a 3 minute drive from here. One of Listowel's treasures is The Garden of Europe, located in the Town Park. It contains over 2,500 trees and shrubs from all over Europe. It is only a short distance from us - right beside the golf course and down by the riverside. If you need information on anything for your stay with us, we will be happy to have it ready for you on, or before, arrival. We wish to Thank You most sincerely for considering staying in Derry House, Listowel, County Kerry. Every Good Wish Betty and JohnMore

If you are searching for comfort, hospitality, cleanliness, and wonderful hosts, look no further than Derry House.
We loved our stay here, The bedrooms were large with private baths, the beds and bedding were super comfortable, nice large kitchen, living room with TV, free wi-fi and a washer/dryer! The hosts, John and Betty, could not have been nicer or more accommodating. An excellent choice to stay here. —Diane Pike

Great Place
I highly recommend the Derry House. The house itself is awesome and the owners John and Betty are even better. The town of Listowel was very charming. The location is great for various day trips like Dingle, Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry. No worries about choosing this place. We would definitely stay here again.

Derry House in Listowel was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Ireland. John & Betty were very hospitable and the accommodation was spotlessly clean, comfortable, quiet and a pleasant walk to town. I would highly recommend Derry House and hope to be able to spend some time there again when I visit Ireland next.

Unfortunately I had an emergency in which caused myself and Hannah to not be able to make our journey down to stay for 3 nights they could not have been more accommodating and nice about the situation .. that alone to me deserves a 5 star rating . Cheers Stephen

About the neighborhood
Only when visitors travel through North Kerry do they wonder at our countryside and lifestyle, do we stop to reflect a little on what we have! Idyllic country lanes, vibrant rural communities, stunning golden beaches, world famous links courses, great literary feats and the natural storytelling gifts of North Kerry locals. Arriving to Kerry through Tarbert sets the scene! The Killimer Ferry is an activity in itself offering the opportunity to dolphin watch en-route. Tarbert is home to the Bridewell, built in 1831 and for more than 100 years it served as a Courthouse and Jail. It's historically informative Exhibition depicts rough justice in 19th Century Ireland. Stop for a coffee in the Ferry House, a 200-year-old building that was a church

How to get there
COMING FROM LISTOWEL TOWN and the N69 from TRALEE AND ABBEYFEALE etc: Come through the town and take the N69 for Tarbert - watch for the Tarbert Ferry sign. After you pass through the roundabout, you travel up the road about 400 metres and on your right hand side (about 30 metres just after LISTOWEL AUTOS LTD (Car Sales) there is a statue. Opposite the statue is a private road with a wooden fence along it's left hand side - travel up the road, pass five houses and we are the last one up - No.6! COMING FROM TARBERT: As you enter the outskirts of Listowel you come to the speed limit sign - watch for the the statue on your left hand side - it may be difficult to see if the hedges are covering some of it. LISTOWEL AUTOS LTD (Car Sales) is just past the statue - so, if you have reached LISTOWEL AUTOS LTD, you have just passed the entrance to our road. At the statue, turn right and go up the private road to the last house on the right.
