Barn
Our self-catering barn annexe is located in a beautiful 18th-century threshers barn in the Deverill Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) close to Longleat (7 miles), Stourhead (8 miles), Stonehenge (19 miles), Hauser and Wirth Somerset (15 miles) and the fashionable town of Frome. We have converted one end of the barn into a large bedroom with queen size bed, ensuite bathroom and kitchen annexe which looks out to an apple orchard. We live next door in a period farmhouse set in 300 acres of arable and unspoilt meadow downland, where herds of organic Wiltshire Horn sheep graze. Public foot and bridle paths lead you over and above the valley for miles of stunning uninterrupted views. You can hike, mountain biking or horse ride. Perfect
We had an amazing stay. The barn was beautiful and had everything needed and the surroundings amazing. It is the perfect location to explore Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset. Charlotte was the perfect host and went out of her way to make our 6 year old daughter feel welcome from leaving a child’s table and chairs in the barn to taking her to meet the brand new puppies who were born during our stay. We truly did have the most wonderful stay and hope to return.

It’s all outstanding
I’ve stayed here with my wife an son for a weekend.
1) the barn is perfect to sleep and relax
2) the whole farm is at your disposal, the hosts live in the adjacent house - beautiful property and gardens to walk, relax and breath clean air
3) the host is extremely helpful and kind - they provided us of plenty of recommendations and even booked us a table in their favourite country pub in the area!
The hikes around the farm are idyllic and you are a short drive from a number of destinations where you can spend entire days immersed in nature.
I will definitely go back, as we didn’t manage to experience all the things we were suggested.
Thanks again to the hosts for their hospitality and help in making our weekend one to remember.

Lovely stay
Lovely warm & cosy, we were given some delicious fresh pressed Apple juice from the orchard in the fridge when we arrived. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. We were offered the use of a cinema room, perfect for Rainy Saturday in with a young child. I'd certainly recommend a stay.

A perfect countryside stay
We stayed at Monkton Barn for two nights and it was absolutely perfect!
Charlotte was absolutely lovely. She provided lots of information before our visit and went out her way to make sure we were comfortable during our stay! If we ever had a question we would text her and she would be over in minutes. She provided breakfast goodies, milk and lovely apple juice. She even let us look after her dog Lola which was loads of fun.
The property itself was a fantastic size, warm, clean and had a great kitchen and bathroom. The shower was amazing! The wifi was fantastic, high speed, and there were even boosters for EE phone reception. The barn is away from their main property so there is absolutely no concerns that it doesn't feel private! Overall was just a perfect place.
The local area was fantastic, with lots beautiful views. We went on a little 2 hour hike, with Lola for company, and it was absolutely stunning out. Such nice scenery! We stayed primarily to be close to Longleat and were there in a short drive. We also had a day in Bath which is also a short drive away.
Overall it was a fantastic stay and we will definitely return when we go on another Wiltshire adventure.

Lovely English countryside living at Monkton Barn
We had a delightful 2 night stay at Monkton Barn over the bank holiday weekend. The host Charlotte was very responsive and provided lots of information prior to our stay about how to find the property and recommendations for things to do in the area. The main reason for our trip was primarily a visit to Longleat safari park and being so close was a real benefit. However we also enjoyed a local pub lunch and walks around the property.
The barn itself is very well equipped, the bedroom is spacious, with a high ceiling and a really comfortable bed. Charlotte provided a variety of things for our breakfast, including delicious bread, eggs, bacon, muesli as well as juice and milk.
We loved the serenity of the barn and had a very relaxing time. We also absolutely adored the gardens, which were blooming with flowers and beautiful grasses and hedges. And to really make us feel like we were in the countryside, there were also ducks, dogs, sheep and horses which entertained our 18 month old son for hours!
We would highly recommend Monkton Barn for a relaxing slice of delightful English countryside living.

Thank you Francois. Such a pleasure to meet you all and so glad you enjoyed the animals and were able to chill out in the garden. Thrilled too the black out curtains meant little William could have a decent afternoon nap undisturbed - we've only just installed them!
With very best wishes to you all, Charlotte

Relaxing and cosy
This tiny cottage is a wonderful place to stay if you are visiting the attractions in Wiltshire and Dorset. Nestled in a beautiful orchard in the tiny village of Monkton Deverill this peaceful cottage has a well equipped kitchen where the owner Charlotte provides all you need for a hearty breakfast.
Nothing is too much bother, very helpful in offering to bring shopping etc if needed during your stay as the nearest shops are a car drive away.
No living room with this cottage, but not necessary if you are out and about sight seeing all day. Sufficient parking for 2 cars and as many apples as you want from the orchard!
Looking forward to another stay here in the future.

About the neighborhood
Monkton Deverill is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) where hiking and bridle paths take you across limitless acres of chalk downland. We are close to the historic stately home and safari park at Longleat (7 miles); the beautiful National Trust gardens at Stourhead (8 miles), and Britain's ancient site of Stonehenge (19 miles) and Bath Spa (34 miles). For something more modern, cutting edge contemporary art gallery, Hauser and Wirth Somerset is just 15 miles away outside the town of Bruton. We are also 15 minutes drive from Shaftesbury, the quintessential Dorset village where the Hovis advert was filmed, and uber cool Frome. The area is teeming with local gastro pubs and restaurants.
Getting around
It's best to come by car, although there are local stations at Warminster and Tisbury and a taxi service that can bring you to our door if all you want to do is walk locally and rest. Cycling is popular in the area, but for sightseeing further a field a car is essential.

How to get there
We are roughly 4 miles off the A303 coming off at the exit between Mere and Chicklade onto the A350. Once you are off the A303 head north towards Warminster on the A350. Within a mile you will see a sign to your left 'The Deverills'. This narrow-ish road - Penn Hill - takes you along the top of the downland and down into the valley through our own farmland towards the village of Monkton Deverill 2 miles away. When you arrive at the village take the first right-hand fork in the road and drive down to the T-junction. Turn right here. The entrance to Manor Farm Barn Annexe, where you are staying, is next to the cottage immediately on your right, and is situated behind big wooden gates. You will have to get out of the car to open them. You can park on the gravel driveway and close the gates behind you. It's good to print off these directions as there is little 4G in our valley and intermittent mobile network. Once you are with us, we have WiFi and an EE-booster. Other mobile networks may require looking for connection in the garden.
