Skelgill Farm is the birthplace of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and real home of Lucie Carr from the famous “Beatrix Potter” books.The house has six bedrooms, two of which are en suite. Three bathrooms and two reception rooms. Both of the reception rooms have open fires.This house will truly take you back 200 years as you relax by two open fires and gaze out at the views across newlands valley.Two bedrooms have double beds, one has a super king size bed. Two adjoining rooms rooms with a small double in one and a single in the other and then there's one good sized room with bunk beds plus a single. You can comfortably sleep twelve.The cottage has a traditional large lakeland kitchen with Aga and dishwasher.

We have stayed here 3 times, and it does suit us well. But this year it was almost twice as expensive as April last year. And the lighting was poor and bulbs weren’t replaced, cleaners had left all equipment and extraneous items out unnecessarily, a...More

About the neighborhood
Newlands Valley is in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, England. It is regarded as one of the most picturesque and quiet valleys in the national park, even though it is situated very close to the popular tourist town of Keswick and the busy A66 road. The valley forms part of the civil parish of Above Derwent, within the Borough of Allerdale. The earliest signs of human settlement in the valley have been found at Ullock, where evidence of a Bronze Age burial site has been found. The remains of a Celtic workshop were also found at Portinscale. Viking herdsmen arrived in Cumbria after 800 AD. Many of the present day place names in the Newlands valley have their origins from these early Norse settlers. How to get there
Drive along the A66 towards Keswick. After around 19 miles turn left into Portinscale. Follow this road through the village untill you see a sign for Swinside (around 2 miles).

Carry on past the Swinside Inn Pub down the valley. Turn left at the junction and the house is half a mile on the right.

The Keys and welcome information can be collected from the Swinside Inn.
