Purves Cottage is a prominent and historic building, formerly a Tailor's business, one of many in the village back in the early 1900's, which has now been lovingly converted to a delightful spacious holiday cottage. It is a perfect location for walks or fishing on the Whiteadder and Blackadder rivers at Allanton (just 100m from the cottage) and nearby on the Tweed in various locations throughout the borders. Clean, friendly dogs and well-behaved kids most welcome ;-) Please note Allanton is in a rural area and August is the main harvest month here for farmers rushing to get the crops in dodging the rain, so farm traffic can be going through the village at all hours during this time. HEATING: The house has central heating throughout and a store of coal & logs is provided for the fires ready for the colder months. BEDS: There are 3-4 beds available. 2 bedrooms; one upstairs and one downstairs. The bedroom downstairs has a king size bed. It also has a day-bed which can be used as 2 singles (and moved to other rooms if you like) or another double (although if used as a double, it will be a very tight squeeze in this room). Drawers and wardrobe storage are provided in this room also. The day bed parts can be moved to other living areas if you wish. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed and single bed which forms part of the day bed downstairs if so wished, and closet storage, with skylight roof window to the rear looking out over gardens and the fields beyond. BATHROOM: is located on the ground floor with shower, roll top bath, double sinks. UTILITIES: There is a washing machine in the utility room along with iron and ironing board. There is no tumble dryer. OTHER: We have provided a selection of items should it be a rainy day and you want to chill out inside. Books, board games, cards and a selection of DVDs are available. GARDEN: There is an enclosed garden safe for pets to run around out to the rear by the parking area looking out over the field with BBQ facilities, table and chairs and a whirligig washing line should you need it. There is a log store here too. There is a water hose fitted outside if you want to wash dogs from a muddy walk! NEARBY: In the village itself is The Allanton Inn pub & hotel, an award-winning establishment with rooms and dining. They have a number of events each year including a summer Beer Festival and Garden Party (June). And just 100m up the street it's not far to stumble home after a tipple or two. William & Katrina serve real ales changed weekly, over 40 gins, a great selection of wines and fabulous food. They have a beer garden to the rear and dogs are welcome here too. On sunny days you can dine alfresco in the pretty garden looking out over the fields towards the coast. There is play-park further up the village for young children, and you have access to some of the most beautiful countryside and riverside walks. The cottage is perfectly located to enjoy an abundance of sights, places to visit, attractions and activities for all tastes including amazing walks, golf, fishing, shooting, cycle routes and surfing. St Abbs and Coldingham on the coast a few miles away are excellent for surfing, sea-kayaking and diving. There are a number of historic houses and castles nearby such as Manderston, Thirlestaine, Mellerstain and Floors Castle all a short drive away throughout the Borders. Alnwick Castle & Gardens (Harry Potter fame!) is a short drive down the A1, as is Bamburgh Castle on the fantastic Northumberland coast. You can take a drive down the coast through a number of pretty coastal villages and towns. Berwick upon tweed is a historic medieval walled town, one of only two city walls in tact in the UK. River boat trips, shopping, nice restaurants and cafes. Holy Island or Lindisfarne (featured in TV series Vikings) is a real treat to visit with lovely local shops selling gifts, art and ice-cream, Lindisfarne Castle and beautiful historic Priory to walk around. Holy Island is cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast-moving tides which cover over the causeway road to and from the island - so be sure to check the crossing times or you'll be stranded!

Gorgeous Cottage!!!
Absolutely lovely, gorgeous bathroom with a fantastic shower. Cottage was warm and cosy, and came with everything you could possibly need. Bedrooms both lovely, & lovely sitting room with comfortable couch and a gorgeous kitchen & dining area. A little private garden at the back too; although we never used it. Our host was lovely, a little welcome hamper was waiting for us and lovely fresh croissants. Nothing was too much trouble. Really lovely end to our holidays and a good location for Wedderburn Castle where we attended a family wedding. Two minutes from the pub too!

Great cottage break.
We have had a lovely week away in this delightful village cottage a lovely place to unwind and relax. We have explored some amazing beaches and the great city of Edinburgh. The cottage is set in stunning scenery with the beautiful River Whiteadder near by. The cottage is well presented, maintained and equipped,it is also dog friendly. We had a wonderful welcome pack on arrival. It was a lovely touch. There is no shop in the village but there is one about a mile away but there is a lovely village pub serving excellent beers and great food. I would thoroughly recommend this delightful cottage. You will not be disappointed come stay and explore.

Homely dog friendly cottage
My sister and I stayed in this beautifully restored cottage with our two dogs. The cottage is located near some excellent beaches suitable for dogs, as well as some lovely local riverside walks. The hosts provided some nice extra touches in a welcome pack, including dog waste bags, treats and a food and water bowl. The inside of the property is done to a high specification, especially the bathroom which has a beautiful roll top bath to unwind in, after a long walk on the beach. As we came over the festive period, it was really nice that the hosts had put up a real Christmas tree next to the kitchen fireplace. We had a very relaxing stay in this quiet, idyllic countryside location which was enjoyed by both humans and puppies. Can’t wait to stay here again!
