Not recommend as could be so much better!
Sadly rather neglected house by the owners and needs a lot of updating from old curtains to furnitures in a lounge. The cleaning staff needs to make sure they clean inside the oven and the fridge as well as under the furnitures where some rubbish was left from previous holiday makers. The bins outside overflowing rubbish.

We apologise in advance to any future prospective guests if we appear to be a little impatient in responding to this guest’s review but it is the FIFTH feedback instalment we have received from her to date in respect of the one short stay, all of which differ in content, some of which were actually positive. We ask all guests to approach us during their stay if there are any problems so we can put things right and not without permission to do their own DIY. Having spoken to her party prior to her arrival we heard no more until we received a quite offensive voicemail after her departure. Despite this we sent her a full and polite answer responding to her concerns and had also in the interim asked the housekeeper to take extra care. Where, as her major grievance, she strayed heavily into matters of personal taste and how she thought we should reconfigure aspects of the garden to avoid the minor inconvenience of having to put her shoes on to let her dogs out at night we still kept it polite. We acknowledged personal taste and explained the thought that had been given and possible problems/danger if we were to redesign our property to her specifications. In view of her comments we also made it clear that we expect guests to supervise children and pets. We have to take into account not just one guest but the larger picture, the safety and usage of other guests, their children and pets. Notwithstanding her constantly saying she did not believe in leaving negative online reviews we were then hit by feedback number four, a one star review, the first of her anonymous online reviews (since removed). In this she masqueraded as a non-dog owner complaining over non-existent dog mess in what most accommodation owners would see as an attempt to damage their business. In fact she herself had taken two Bedlington Terriers to the accommodation and had made no previous mention of any such issue to us. As animal lovers ourselves we find it particularly baffling and very peculiar behaviour for any dog owner, especially one deeply involved with dogs and dog charities, as this guest is, to act in such a way that might force many accommodation providers to ban dogs from their property to preserve their business. We want everyone to come and enjoy their stay and everyone to be considerate to other guests. Since her original review we have undertaken a full unannounced inspection of the accommodation. We did not find the same issues she initially reported, apart from her DIY repair. It appeared physically impossible for the bin (which was NOT mentioned in her previous four missives) to have been overflowing at the time of her stay given the condition we found it in and our knowledge of the collection dates and other guest stays. We did not find the oven in the state we had feared given some of this guest’s remarks but nevertheless ensured personally that it was left as clean as is humanely possible and thoroughly checked the accommodation removing any unnecessary items. Unfortunately for whatever reason this guest has chosen not to give a balanced view but a wholly biased and negative one whereas she originally stated “Nice place, convenient location, good for what we needed it for.” “It isn’t that we didn’t have a good visit and the bungalow suited us.” “The garden is lovely…” “Kitchen is great and obviously new. ..” and included within her entry in the guest book – “Nice place to stay, good location, lovely views & quiet” Incidentally the other guest book entries for the past year refer to “We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here what a lovely ‘home’ for the week, with beautiful views & exceptional peace & quiet”. “Beautiful home … it was quiet and clean … you became our favorite Holiday place”. “Nice clean, warm and comfortable bungalow. We found it perfect for our stay of one week, and would have liked longer”. “Lovely stay. Peaceful & quiet area, house was lovely & clean. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy the views from the living room”.

Our lovely week away.
The bungalow was lovely. Nice and warm, and clean. The double bed was comfy, and the kitchen/diner was all new. Nice big lounge with freeview tv. There were minor snags. I did not take my toolbox, and had to buy a screwdriver, as the bedroom door hung dangerously on the bottom hinge only, but I soon re fixed that, but two of the six screws were not holding and need bigger replacements. Also, the towel rail badly fixed to the bathroom door, fell off. Despite these snags we had a wonderful holiday in a lovely quiet place, with a lovely next door neighbour, who told us the bin day had changed that week, and put the correct bin out for us. I noted this in the information pack. Thank you

View from a window
The cottage is in a great location for many walks around the area. It's set in a very quiet location and the pub, park and co-op is only a 5 minute walk. It has a lovely kitchen diner and a large living room both with fantastic views, the views were better than 80% of what was on the TV. The TV offers only the basic channels with no catch up and the decor in the living room is dated although found the chairs comfy. The bed we found very comfortable and although it was only a basic shower it was nice, warm and had a decent power. It does state there is no wi-fi and thought this wouldn't be too much of a problem but amazed how much I needed it during the week. The pickled pear is no longer open so the only place we found close by with free wi-fi was the pub, that's my excuse anyway. The garden has lots of potential and would be great with a little attention and you do have to stand and watch your dog as not fully enclosed. The information pack needs looking at as appliances have changed and also local amenities. Lastly found the vacuum cleaner wasn't picking up and found no spare bags. Found it value for money but has so much more potential

good location
Our 3 rd stay at Hall Dale View and still a lovely place to stay on a very quiet estate. .It was very clean and tidy and although a bit outdated it is very comfy and cozy. The new kitchen is great and a big improvement ( old one shown on website ).It is close to Matlock and Bakewell and both are worth a visit .

A great base to work from
This years visit marks our 4th time and as before thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bungalow is on a well maintained and pretty estates well looked after by the current residents and from the lounge offers fabulous views of the opposite side of the Dales. The property has undergone some alterations by making the kitchen and dining room into a kitchen diner, and is a 100% improvement.. There had been some work required on the porch which has been done, this is a godsend to dog walkers, somewhere where in inclement weather the dogs can be dried off and somewhere to hang wet clothes. All in all this is an excellent base for walkers and dog owners, it is clean, comfortable and well equipped, unfortunately there is no wifi and the TV has limited channels but survivable. Wifi is however available in places nearby where you can visit. What used to be a pharmacy nearby has been converted into a cafe with an outdoor seating facility called the Pickled Pear and is lovely. The pharmacy is now on the opposite side of the road inside the new medical centre that was completed 2019/2020. There is a Co op supermarket, a post office, fish and chip shop and hairdressing salon close by. Just a 5 minute walk away is the Whitworth Park, (behind the Barrington dog friendly Pub), this is a 10 acre park ideal for dog walkers, there are numerous footpaths within where you could walk many miles whilst inside the park. The park appears to be well used, there is a crown green bowls facility and the area is used for exhibitions etc The Peak Railway is approx 10 minutes walk away, unfortunately due to Covid the trains were not stopping at Darley Dale but plans are afoot for it to be reopened in 2022. You will be located between Matlock and Bakewell, also Chatsworth House is a 10 /15 minute drive or you can go by bus. I hope to return next year for sure

Great location. Comfortable
This is the second time staying at this property. There is everything you need within the property. And has great cafes, local coop and post office . Amazing walks from the bungalow. Friendly locals. The bungalow does need more love into it. The back garden has an amazing Rose bush coming into bloom, but generally needs TLC. The wildlife in the gardens and surrounding trees have a lovely bird chorus. Beautiful. Great view from the front bay window. It’s very ideal for dog owners, cyclists, outdoor pursuits. with a Porch to dry off!

Great Location with access to everything
This was our 2nd stay at this bungalow, it is on such a pretty estate the neighbours are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful, we had to leave a day early but one of them said they would deal with our recycling bins. Hall Dale View is a no through road so there is no excessive traffic noise, just the normal neighbourly traffic coming and going. It is ideally placed just back off the A6 and within a 5 minute walk anyone of a certain age has bus pass access to public transport to Matlock, Bakewell,Chatsworth House and Buxton there is also the steam railway approx 10 minutes walk where you can go to Matlock. From the lounge you have fabulous views of the dales. Television channels are limited but all the main ones are available but you are on holiday after all, so wasn't a big issue for me. Dog walkers will benefit from Whitworth Park just the other side of the A6 this is a 10 acre park with plenty of walks, there is also a Pub (The Barrington, dog friendly) which does great meals, also in the park area a Cafe with a good range of food and drinks. Nearby there is a Co op Supermarket , used to be a bank, a pharmacy within the newly built medical centre, a garden centre with a lovely cafe area, fish and chip shop, takeaways and a newsagent. There is no wifi but nearby there are plenty of locations that do offer that facility. I will for sure be returning to this location

Disappointed
This could be a lovely little bungalow but it's really in poor repair. On first approaching the property you see that the porch is rotting and really scruffy. Inside the house the kitchen is dated, there is wallpaper pealing off the walls in a couple of rooms and the place just seems run down. Mid way through our holiday we had a leak in the twin bedroom and water dripped on my poor Mum's head. What was most shocking though was that when we phoned the owners to tell them, they told me that they had been informed by neighbours that the roof tiles had slipped, but they hadn't done anything about it!! The owners did arrange for a maintenance man to come and do a temporary fix, but he was surprised there hasn't been a leak in the lounge too and was concerned that if there was a strong wind, that the tiles would shift again. I understand that things do break or happen to properties, but the owners really should have sorted them when they found out about it rather than when paying guests are rained on.

We are sorry that this particular guest didn’t enjoy her stay and apologised at the time for the unfortunate incident that occurred but that being said we feel her review gives a really misleading impression both of Hall Dale View and of us. This is a comfortable property which is a great base for a holiday, well equipped and generally rated for its cleanliness. It is offered on a value for money basis which most guests appreciate and the photographs accurately reflect the interior although the furniture etc may change from time to time. Guests come here for many reasons - location, garden, parking, value or somewhere suitable for the less mobile and many are repeat bookings and recommendations. It doesn’t claim to be at the luxury end of the market and is not in that price bracket. The property is far from being in poor repair, is not run down and you will not be surrounded by peeling wallpaper. Work is regularly undertaken and any issues raised are dealt with. We had been told of a slipped tile, in a quite roundabout way (not directly through a neighbour). We didn’t know where it was or to what extent it had slipped and had arranged for someone to visit the property, inspect the roof and deal with it. They were at the same time to repair the small area of the outside porch woodwork requiring it and paint as necessary. Unfortunately due to the recent weather in Derbyshire (most will know of the near bursting of the dam) their workload meant that they had not been able to do so before this guest’s stay. Having had an uninterrupted first week’s holiday, despite rain, it was only on the Sunday following an apparently heavy and persistent downpour overnight that we were contacted by the guest and learnt that a leak had just occurred.. The guest does not note that regardless of it being a Sunday morning we had someone there to fix the immediate problem within the hour. This allowed the guests to continue uninterrupted with the rest of their day and indeed with the second week of their stay. We fully appreciate from experience that holidaying with an elderly parent does present additional responsibilities and concerns but in view of the tone of the Sunday morning conversation with us and her not unnaturally asking us to ring her straight back to let her know the situation it was strange that she did not then answer or return our call. Nor respond to the message we sent to her following the fix for a further two weeks. When she did so it was in a less than conciliatory manner. We should add that the booked roof repair works have now been completed.

About the neighborhood
The immediate area is home to the Peak steam railway and the Red House Carriage Museum and stables. If your are interested in transport from a bygone era, or some would say of the future, a few miles away you will find the Crich Tram Museum. There within a few minutes walk and some good hotel/pub dining. In particular the Whitworth Institute and Hotel built by the Victorian industrialist is about four minutes walk and contains a good and reasonably priced restaurant and fronts a beautiful local park with large duck pond and tea room. Nearby places of interest include Chatsworth (setting for Jane Austen's Pemberley) and home to the Dukes of Devonshire and the medieval Haddon Hall (Dukes of Rutland) very popular with filmmakers. In recent years used for Jane Eyre and The Other Boleyn Girl. If you are coming by public transport both can be can be reached by the local buses. Haddon is also the start of the Monsal Trail a waking and cycling route utilising the disused railway line. Bikes can be hired at various places along the route. There are good walks from the property to take you out into the surrounding countryside and within a short drive are some of the beautiful villages of the Peak District such as Youlgreave set between the two picturesque dales of Lathkill and Bradford with their trout streams. Darley Dale lies between the two well known town of Matlock and Bakewell. Matlock is a pretty (former spa) town which will supply all of your holiday needs and also has some interesting antique shops plus leisure facilities such as swimming, tennis courts, boats on the river.Bakewell, known for its famous pudding has plenty of tea rooms and one of the largest remaining livestock markets in the country. The area is home to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Derwent Valley Mills including Richard Arkwright's Mill at Cromford. The first cotton spinning mill to be powered by water and in its industrial scale production of cotton one of the first modern factories now nestling in a tranquil wooded valley. Also his later Masson Mill at Matlock Bath now a visitor centre with working textile museum and retail outlet. Matlock Bath itself, known in Victorian days as Little Switzerland is set in a deep wooded gorge with attractive riverside walks. The houses rise up the valley sides towards the Heights of Abraham which can also reached by cable car. The area has been mined for its rich minerals since Roman times and at the summit there are two show caves you can explore plus a visitor centre with exhibition and café. For children Matlock Bath also contains Gulliver's Kingdom.
