Oasis of tranquility
We stayed here as a group of 6 friends and had a great time. The house is perfectly equipped for large groups (5 bedrooms, 4 double and one twin - there is also a sofa bed). Kitchen has everything you need as well as a BBQ. The house is pretty remote, 7 mins up a small track from the nearest village. Getting the bread every morning is a definite drive! The garden is big enough, but not huge - as is the swimming pool. Hot tub is nice in the evenings. We took a day trip to Via Plage and Roquebrun canoeing - both of which I highly recommend.

Amazing Villa in Languedoc Region
You never know what to expect from rented villas in France, but this one was pretty amazing. As soon as you turn on to the secluded roads leading to the villa, you know you're going to have peace and quiet with amazing views of the surrounding hills and Mountains. That's exactly what we found. This was probably one of our most relaxing holidays ever. The villa has 5 bedrooms and plenty of space to hold a large family or group of friends. We made good use of the kitchen most evenings to prepare meals (no problems in feeding 9 people with the provided utensils). Outside there is a jacuzzi, large patio area and large pool overlooked by the mountains. Plenty of room outside for everyone to sit or sunbath and plenty of towels provided by the owners. We also liked the welcome gift (the coffee couldn't be matched with anything we found in the shops). The surrounding areas are just beautiful and it was helped by perfect sunshine all week. Places like Olargues, Roquebrun and Vieussan are not only picturesque but also easy to drive to. Plenty of places to stop and eat and so many vineyards. If you like wine, then we highly recommend stopping at these vineyards for wine tasting. Can't fault the villa or the location. highly recommended.

Idyllic Getaway in the Haut Languedoc
This was our third stay at La Fumade, and I cannot say enough good things about it. The weather this time of year is stunning, the house is comfortable, spacious, beautifully renovated, and easily accommodates two or three couples or small families. I spent a lot of time by the pool, and at night, well, dining outside under the wisteria-laden pergola is my image of paradise. Also the house is right up against an immense national park, which we hiked until we dropped, then soothed our sore muscles that night in the hot tub. I love the location - secluded and quiet, surrounded by gorgeous mountains - but close enough to dozens of small towns and medieval villages that we have no problem finding spectacular restaurants. And the wine! The food! An easy drive to St. Chinian, where the Sunday market alone is more than worth the drive. Can't recommend it highly enough.

A luxurious retreat from the hurly burly
We drove down from England, overnighting on the way, and arrived late and in the dark. The directions and sat nav coordinates could not have made this easier. The next day we woke to silence and isolation. This was exactly what we needed. We spent the next ten days pottering around the local area, food and drink is excellent (although in September everything that can be is imbued with sweet chestnut). Support from the host, when required, was prompt and quickly resolved issues. These were only minor though and did not detract in any way. Utilities, including internet, were included, worked and the instructions for the house were accurate and clear allowing us to quickly settle in. We hope to stay again.

Beautiful home - everything you could need for the family.
This home is perfect for the family that wants all the comforts of home in a great location! We couldn't have asked for more. It was easy to find and not far from large villages, but still secluded in the beautiful mountains. The views are amazing. We were able to easily come and go from the home to do several day trips around the area. We didn't feel that a week was enough time to do everything! The home itself satisfied all of our needs from a wonderful kitchen that allowed us to prepare family meals to the amount of space in the bedrooms and separate bathrooms. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay unforgettable. We will definitely rent this house again.

Fantastic stay in the beautiful hills of Languedoc
I stayed at La Fumade with several friends for two weeks in October 2011, and we had a fantastic time. (only recently realized I had never left a review!) The house was beautiful and had everything we could possibly need. If I were to do anything differently I'd just spend more time closer to home base; we had a pretty aggressive schedule of day trips that we made, which were all very interesting, but ended up being maybe not as relaxing as it could have been. The whole area up in the hills is delightful, and some more leisurely hiking/wandering around villages will be on my agenda the next time I stay (the cathedral at St. Pons de Thomieres turned out to be a hidden gem, for example). Or just more lazing about the house! (I am planning on going back for sure.) Things it's useful to know: there is laundry detergent available (having a washing machine is a huge boon to packing light, one of the best features); the kitchen, as expected, is completely outfitted, and there was coffee (and a bottle of wine!) available when we arrived, so you don't necessarily need to make a stop at the store on your way in as we did; the setup for electronics nicely accommodated our very geeky group (good wifi and power strip that takes multiple kinds of plugs—actually there were two of those when we left because I had brought one along just in case!). The choice of UK satellite TV was really appreciated; it was soothing to come back to after a day speaking French. There is also an excellent selection of DVDs and guidebooks on the shelves. As noted elsewhere you definitely need a car, and the trip out to the house can seem a bit harrowing especially if you're there during boar hunting season as we were—we hit the occasional traffic jam with the men from the boar hunting club that's just down the road! But then again the very fact of boar hunting season was actually kind of exciting, and certainly different. (on evenings we ate dinner outside we heard the boars crunching chestnuts just outside the fence.) I've added some photos that I think give a good idea of how idyllic the place was on the sunny fall days we were there. So overall, obviously, I'd entirely recommend a stay for anyone who wants a beautiful getaway to non-urban France.

Herrlich abgeschieden
Wir sind zwei Familien gewesen, jeweils mit 3 Kindern/Jugendlichen. Also 10 Personen.

Tucked away in the mountains, this place really is a little piece of heaven
The accommodation is lovely, the pool is surrounded by the forest, the hot tub is secluded.... what more could you want. Its all just so relaxing. All the nearby villages are so quaint, there are hundreds of vineyards to taste and purchase wine, and plenty of great restaurants. We were sad to come home, and we are going back next year for sure!

Absolutely Amazing Home in the South of France
My friends and I had a wonderful time in this gorgeous farmhouse nestled in the hills of southern France. An adventurous ride a down winding country lane brings you to a beautiful stone farmhouse with breath-taking views. The home is stunning and well appointed. A fabulous bottle of local wine and welcome basket awaited us. The surrounding villages are well worth the visit and you will be sure to find adventure & a wonderful meal. Be sure to take advantage of the wine tastings in the surrounding areas. I would recommend paying a visit to Gabelas vineyard. This wonderful home will surpass your expectation. The owner is very accessible via email both before and during our trip. We received precise directions to the farmhouse (there are signs along the road pointing you in the right direction). The hosts also provided plenty of maps and suggestions for local trips & restaurants. It is a very warm, inviting, and spacious home with a large kitchen. The beds are very comfortable, you will surely get a good night's sleep. Plenty of bathrooms, which are roomy and clean. The master bedroom suite with great views of the mountains. The home is completely updated. The pool and hot tub are magnificent. This home is an absolute treasure. No need to look any further, as La Fumade will offer you everything you are looking for in the south of France. Book this home for your next vacation.
