Stephen is an incredibly kind host. We were hopelessly lost in the middle of the pitch-black countryside and we had to call Stephen at 2AM for help. He graciously took the call and got us to the cottage safely. It is a lovely place. We were there for Christmas and it was cozy and warm. The free firewood was a...

It was very well equipped, the only thing we did find difficult, was the drying of our washing. There didn't seem to be a washing line, only a clothes horse. But that was...

Management response:

Thank you for your kind comments. There was a washing line but the Apple tree it was fixed to collapsed!! in May. Glad you enjoyed your stay we have equipped it as if it was our home rather than just a rental property.

A beautiful, secluded cottage, well equipped. A good centre for sightseeing in the Calvados, Orne and Eure areas of France. In easy reach of a small town, Vire, which has a number of restaurants and good supermarkets

Management response:

We bought the cottage after staying in it for exactly the reasons you list. Glad you agree with us and hope to see you again Stephen & Eileen

About the neighborhood
With varied scenery and a choice of fine cuisine, a visit to Vire has plenty to offer. Vire is a historic town with a population of around 14,000. The town's strategic position in the centre of Basse-Normandy has been responsible for both its rise and fall throughout its history.
On our first visit to the area we were struck by the quiet, unhurried and calm atmosphere and were overwhelmed by the friendly welcome we got from the French. This area was badly affected in World War 2 and there is still a deep affection for the Allied forces for the liberation and the sacrifices they made. If you want to leave behind the stresses of modern day living for a quiet and peaceful location then this is the place for you. Vire and its surrounding villages offer all facilities with every s...
