Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Duddon Valley, Riverside Cottage ticks every box - a rolling river nearby, majestic fells/mountains to all sides, a most traditional Cumbrian Cottage, with a fabulous log burner, many original features, and yet lovingly restored to a bespoke standard.

There's a local pub in walking distance. There's plenty of walks nearby, from gentle strolls to quite high intensity fell climbing. There are also many cycle routes and the area is a favourite with both cyclists and mountain bikers. There is a store room at the cottage for outdoors wear, boots and bikes.

You’ll love Riverside for the ambiance, the outdoors space, the peace and tranquility of being close to...

Beautifully presented cottage in the most wonderful location. I didn’t want to move from the armchair by the patio doors looking out over the fells! It was chilly outside when we arrived but the heating was on and it felt so homely...thank you for sharing...More

We love the Duddon Valley and this was the perfect base for exploring it, with beautiful walks straight from the door, and an easy (if slightly hair-raising) drive into Eskdale if you fancy taking on one of the BIG peaks. We did Scafell and sat...More

About the neighborhood
Riverside is located inside the picturesque Duddon Valley, with beautiful fields and fells on every side. Outstanding scenery awaits with golden walks straight from the door, and happily quite a few finish at the local pub, The Newfield Inn, about a mile away from the cottage.
Getting around
A car is essential to appreciate the local area and get about easily. There is no rural bus service. The nearest train station is Foxfield, about 8 miles away where trains can be caught to Millom and Barrow in Furness and as far north as Carlisle for those wanting to explore farther afield.
How to get there
DIRECTIONS TO RIVERSIDE COTTAGE FROM THE MOTORWAY: Leave the M6 motorway at J36 and take the A590 west towards Barrow and Newby Bridge. Continue on the A590 past Newby Bridge and after 5 miles take the second exit on the roundabout onto the A5092 (which becomes the A595) to Broughton-in-Furness. After around 12 miles, you will drive past the first sign for Broughton (a white “Local Traffic” one), going through Foxfield (railway line on left) and also a second sign (some miles on from the first one) on the right (this sign is brown and says “Broughton-in-Furness Historic Market Town”). Following the road for another mile or so, you will come to a right turning for Broughton just before a large white imposing pub called The High Cross Inn. Carry on past this turning bearing left down the hill to a set of traffic lights at Duddon bridge. DO NOT go through the traffic lights, rather turn right just before them on to a road marked “Seathwaite and Ulpha”. After around three miles you will go over a bridge – “Ulpha Bridge”, follow the road round to the right, passed St John’s Church, and you will come to Ulpha Post Office, a white building on your left. Continue along the road for another one and a half miles and you will come to another bridge over the River Duddon. You are almost there. Proceed over the bridge and Riverside Cottage is located about 100 yards from here, the second cottage on your left. The postcode is LA20 6ED.
