A warm welcome from Alberto and Diana was followed by a freshly baked cake, milk, cereal and other supplies in the larder. Diana is a fountain of information on Spoleto and places to visit in Umbria.

We stayed in Suite Archie. It's a beautiful converted stone stable with a lovely array of antiques. It's part of an old castle built by the Duke of Spoleto to help defend his realm. The suite includes a table on the patio for outdoor dining and access to the incredible view of the valley below.

Alberto beams as he shares photos of the ruins that he has restored over the past 25 years. He knowledge of the area and it's history were amazing.

The location provides a great home base for day trips to Spoleto, Piano Grande, Norcia, Montefalco, Assisi, Bevagnia and other places in Umbria.

Overall, our week-long stay made us feel like personal guests of Alberto and Diana, rather than renters of an apartment.

Le Logge di Silvignano Tower is, indeed, a tower in the small village of Silvignano. The village is very picturesque, affording great views of the valley below.
The interior of the tower is very attractive and is divided into four levels. The one at the bottom is a double bedroom with a dressing room next to it. The next level up contains a large bathroom, and a combination kitchen-dining-living room. The third level also contains contains a large bathroom, and a combination kitchen-dining-living room. However, it also has a deck with a canopy over it. The deck looks out over the valley and is a wonderful place to eat meals. The top level is a double bedroom in a loft that overlooks the upper combination kitchen-dining-living room.
My wife and I shared the tower with my sister and brother-in-law. We took the upper bedroom. It has a skylight, which can be opened in good weather. However, if it is closed, the upper bedroom is a little dark. Also, the loft is...
