Casa Passeggiata is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment in Orvieto, Italy that sleeps 6, and has a traditional Italian eat-in kitchen. This 2nd floor apartment is spectacularly located at the mid-point of Corso Cavour, the main thoroughfare in the historic Medieval hilltop town of Orvieto, Italy. Step outside through tufo walls dating from the 12th century, and you are transported into a world a thousand feet above the valley floor on a hilltop town that was settled by the Etruscans, followed by the Romans, the middle ages, and the Italian Renaissance. First, this is a perfect apartment and is more beautiful and inviting than the pictures reflect. And it is in the heart of Orvieto, a beautiful hilltop town with great restaurants, fabulous and reasonably priced food and wine, and friendly, welcoming staff. And my personal favorite was having daily gelatos! Easy access to Rome by train and within driving distance of Siena, Todi. and other Italian cities. Orvieto itself had so much to offer--underground caves, the museums around Piazza del Duomo, the Cathedral, old churches, and so much history dating back to the 11th century. Our favorite spot during our 3-week tour of Europe. We highly recommend it to anyone wanting to feel relaxed and connected within a picturesque setting!

The location is amazing - easy access by car or train, quite and friendly. The condo is centrally located with great local restaurants and shopping nearby. Every restaurant and shop we walked in, we were welcomed as if we had known each other for years. A great walking town with great views of the valley below. Gus and Monica, owners, provided information of the area, make great recommendations of things to do and visit. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking to get away to relax for a long weekend or in our case a week of relaxing in the middle of our 4 weeks journey throughout Europe.

We loved the wine shop, pasta store and local grocery that were just outside the front door of this beautiful apartment. Right in the heart of Orvieto, walking distance to the main attractions and transportation. It was very easy to catch the train for a day trip to Rome. Check out the gelato festival!

Renting Casa Passegiata for my 2 week Italian immersion class was a great decision. Owners Monica and Gus were very responsive and prepared my husband and I for our Italian adventure. Guest's comfort is clearly a priority, with many thoughtful touches. Great beds, good towels and very very clean! Lots of light and nicely decorated. Great communication and instructions for use of appliances. I loved having a bathtub for a soak after a long walk on cobblestones. Others have commented on lack of view- I rented a place for 2 weeks in Siena with a gorgeous view in an historic building that was terribly maintained and appointed. Views can be overrated. Location is fabulous. I am already planning to return and wouldn't stay anywhere else in Orvieto.

Casa Passeggiata is the most wonderful apartment in the beautiful hill town of Orvieto. Orvieto is a perfect size. There are lots of streets to roam and explore, good hiking along the Rupe with spectacular views. There are also many shops to browse in and plenty of delicious restaurants for dining. Orvieto is an easy train ride from Rome and car travel while there is simple. Rent at the local Hertz by the Orvieto train station, park in the free parking behind station and arrive in Orvieto hill town by funiulare. No need for a car in town but car easily accessible for exploring Umbria and Tuscany if desired. Over the years, we have rented various apartments throughout Europe but Casa Passeggiata is the best we have ever experienced. Gus and Monica are delightful owners. From our initial contact, communication, payment could not have been easier. Arrival at the apartment was effortless. Their English speaking property manager met us and provided a great deal of information about the apartment, restaurants and local area. The apartment itself is meticulously clean. The apartment is quiet. It comes with all the amenities one needs. They have thought of everything. We were so impressed that they have even provided a first aid kit if necessary. The beds are as comfortable as a hotel (probably better!). The linens provided are lovely and plentiful. The living room was also extremely comfortable (which you don't always get when renting). The wifi worked well and was user friendly. We enjoyed every aspect of this apartment. It was a terrific home base for exploring the area. We loved coming "home" to Casa Passeggiata. And we certainly enjoyed participating in the Passeggiata every evening - right out the front door. Thanks Gus and Monica. We hope to return to your lovely home in Orvieto again!

Stayed here for four days in early June. I highly recommend this apartment. Fantastic location close to everything. Very roomy with great furnishings and the two bathrooms were very well done.

This gorgeous apartment is perfectly furnished and equipped, and is steps from both conveniences and sights. The property manager met us at a spot easy to get to, then rode in our car and guided us to a place close to the apartment where we could unload. There are many stairs, but their listing tells you that in advance. In spite of the warning we had a lot of luggage, and the property manager helped us cart it all upstairs. She was also extremely helpful in other ways, including doing us a great favor which we asked her without warning at the time we left. The Wifi wasn't quite as good as we'd found it in other parts of Italy. Our phones and tablets connected without difficulty, but for some reason my laptop, which had connected at all our other stays, didn't connect, though we were able to use my phone as a hot spot for it. Also, streaming video content had to buffer so many times it wasn't worth it. But it could be argued that when you're on vacation somewhere as beautiful as Orvieto, there are better things to do than sit in front of a screen.

Kit - Thank you very much for the nice review. We're sorry to hear your difficulty with the wi-fi in the apartment, especially since we are paying extra for FastNet, which we use to Skype with our own family and also use for Apple TV when we are pesonally there in Orvieto. We will have the matter looked into. - Yours truly, Gus and Monica Giobbi

My husband and I rented Casa Passeggiata for a week in October and found the home to be comfortable, light, and a fine location for seeing parts of Tuscany and Umbria. The home is pleasantly furnished with a full kitchen, spacious living room/dining room, and comfortable beds and linens. It is convenient to the Piazza Duomo, markets, wine shops, and restaurants. The area was a little busier than we expected, especially on the weekends, but quiet at night. Orvieto is a gem of a hill town, and we enjoyed touring the underground caves, walking the perimeter at the base of the hill, many strolls to all ends of town, and the fine food and wine. The train station made for convenient trips to Rome, and the Hertz office and entrance to the Auto Strada were at the base of the hill so we could easily head to Montepulciano, Cortona, Siena, and Civiti de Bagnoregio. The owners are very helpful, offering tips and suggestions, and the property manager was available as we needed her assistance. If you want to enjoy a little slice of the sapore locale e buona vita of an ancient Italian hill town, Casa Passeggiata is the place to visit!

Everything about this apartment was perfect. The pictures accurately reflect the beauty of the apartment. The beds were just like home (which I can't say about any other beds we slept in). Gus and Monica had an American coffee maker and coffee for us, along with fruit and a bottle of Orvieto wine and everything we would need to make us feel welcome. Orvieto is delightful. We did day trips to Civita (shouldn't be missed) and Assisi (since you transfer watch for options if the train is delayed like ours was). We toured the city; Duomo, Orvieto Underground and shopped. The restaurants are wonderful but I haven't found any Italian meal I didn't like. I still crave the walnut pasta we had at Il Cocco. I had to have it twice.

We traveled around Italy for two weeks before landing in Orvieto at Casa Passeggiata. It turned out to be our favorite stop of the entire trip. The apartment is lovely and is in the heart of Orvieto making it possible to walk everywhere inside the city. We especially enjoyed the washing machine! Vittoria (the local property manager) was kind, flexible and responsive to all of our questions. We will definitely go back if we ever get the opportunity to return to Italy.

About the neighborhood
Orvieto, Italy is one of the principal sights of the region of Umbria, Italy. The site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tufa cliffs, retaining traces of every phase of history for the past three thousand years. A thousand feet above the valley floor, this medieval hilltop town was settled by the Etruscans, followed by the Romans, the middle ages, and the splendor of the Renaissance culminated by its magnificent Duomo. Orvieto's history is so extensive, one could spend a lifetime exploring it. Among other things, Orvieto was conquered by Julius Caesar and annexed by Rome in the third century BC because due to its location, the city was virtually impregnable. Orvieto has also been the refuge of five popes during the 13th century.
Getting around
Orvieto is only 2 miles long and a mile wide. So it's hard to get lost. If you have a car and want to explore the countryside there are many beautiful villages and towns to discover from Pienza, Siena, Cortona, Spello, Assisi, San Gemengion or leave the car and in an hour by train you can be in Rome. Orvieto is in the heart of the wine, truffle and olive oil country. We can help you set up half or full day tours.
