It preserves the magic atmosphere of the past and has a private garden guaranteeing the guests' privacy and access on the castle’s main garden. The quietness and positive atmosphere of Casa Rambaldo is ideal for families, for people searching a place to rest and tank energy and for those interested in discovering the hidden treasures of the Region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, which is still rather unknown. The complex of the Castle of Strassoldo di Sopra is formed by the main building, where the counts of Strassoldo still live, which is surrounded by a series of beautiful stone buildings in olden times used as guards' houses, administrative and judicial centre, stables, artisans' house, granaries, archives, rice mill and the ancient tower. The main buillding is connected by an arch to the church of St. Nikolaus, formerly the castle's chapel, where catholic masses are held on Sundays, on one side and to the ancient tower on the other side. The setting is really beautiful and the whole castle complex is surrounded by lovely gardens, crossed by spring-water streams and rivers. The family Strassoldo has finely restored three beautiful stone holiday homes: La Vicinia, Casa Rambaldo and Casa Artuico, which are placed near to each other, on the northern side of the property. Each of them has its private garden, guaranteeing the guests privacy and access on the castle's beautiful main garden. These charming homes are very nicely furnished (La Vicinia with furniture hand-painted by local artisans, whilst Casa Rambaldo and Casa Artuico with ancient furniture ) and have been provided with every comfort. Strassoldo is a precious gem of a lovely and still unknown region which is not overrun by tourists and has many important historical sites, a lovely nature with many different wonderful landscapes ranging from high mountains, through rolling hills and green plains to rock or sand beaches. The castle is situated in a very central position making it easy to reach all these attractions. Only to mention a few, Venice is reachable in 1 hour's drive, the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia (the second biggest colony of Rome) is reachable in 10 minutes, the golden beach of Grado in 20 minutes, the beautiful town of Udine in 30 minutes, the marvelous Adriatic Gulf with the town/port of Trieste in 38 minutes, Slovenia in 35 minutes and Austria in 60 minutes. A holiday at the Castle of Strassoldo di Sopra will let you relax, breathe the charm of one of the most important and ancient castles of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, make nice walks in the green countryside, go biking through cute little rural villages, go swimming in the nearby Adriatic sea and make nice day excursions to many interesting regional sites and towns. The Region is also famous for its excellent wines and food which will make the holiday even more agreeable.

Strassoldo is an isle of peace, with only a few Holiday homes. It is, therefore, important to preserve this quietness and not play football or carry out noisy activities in front of the homes. It is also important to keep the front doors closed in order to keep the privacy of the castle complex.

An Italian Chateaux Garden and Guest House - superb
A wonderful place! An Italian paradise! For us as a small family it exceeded even the great expecatations. Close to the Grado beach for the kid, in the middle of Friuli for all kind of (family) excursions and in the evenings this extremely nice and cooling small house with a beautiful garden for the entire family.

One week in Casa Rambaldo -Strassoldo-
Strassoldo is a very little village in the region Friuli-Venezia-Giuglia, it is not the most known part of Italy, it is not Tuscany. I think that Tuscany is more beautiful in general than the region of Friuli but you can do a lot of things and visit many interesting places anywhere. The temptation of going to Slovenia is high because is very near and it's worth to go one day or more. Austria is 100 kms far away and Venezia also 100 kms far away. Friuli-Venezia-Giuglia has very different parts between them, then you have to inform yourself an see where you want to stay. But I want speak about Strassoldo and Casa Rambaldo, my husband, son and me went this summer in august just a week. When I entered the house and saw our garden and the great, great garden that continued ....I could not believe the chance that we had got. Seeing the old restored house (Casa Rambaldo), the magnificient garden and the place where we were, that's to say, in a medieval borgo property of the Strassoldos, I felt that I could not ask for more, I had the sensation of perfection in all senses. Not always when you gou out on holidays you can say this, many times the places are good but a few times you feel that you are in a beauty tale. Say that this is a quiet and little place, there are practically no shops in general, there are a few restaurants in the village. This is a place for beeing quiet and having relax. There is Strassoldo di Sopra and Strassoldo di Sotto, both form the Borgo. Then you can walk on the stone ground, walk between old buildings, see the main building where live the owners....definitly you can feel the past int this marvellous place including the great and green sensation of gardens, statues, little river. In this Borgo there are two other houses to rent and a few suites in another part of the Borgo. Casa Rambaldo is very well restored, I think it was in the past a house for soldiers. The house is nice and has all the necessary comfort to be well. A curious city is very near Strassoldo, it's Palmanova, a fortress city with a star shape. Near it's Aquileia withe its ruins an ancient church with romans mosaics. Villa Manin is not far with its lovely an big gardens, the place where lived the last Dux of Venice, Cividale, a medieval city, etc. etc. A delicious place to dinner is in Strassoldo, called Rainbow, a few meters from the house. My personal qualification is 10. The price was 850 euros per week an I think that the place is worth enough for this price. After staying in Strassoldo we went 5 days to Venice and the combination of this two places was very good. Susana B. Barcelona -Spain-

About the neighborhood
Strassoldo is a cute little village of the green friulian lowlands stretching to the Adriatic coast. The village developped around its ancient castle mentioned already in 530 a.C. which has always been inhabited by the same family (the counts of Strassoldo) that built it. A few centuries later the former castle was split in two: the Upper (castello di Strassoldo di Sopra) and Lower (castello di Strassoldo di Sotto) castles. Strassoldo is set in a very central position from where it is easy to reach many charming sites natural and historical attractions and the guests can, therefore: - visit the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia (8 car minutes), with its excavations, wonderful Basilica with the vastest floor mosaic of the World - go swimming in the Adriatic sea, choosing between several seaside resorts like: 1) Grado, with its golden sand beach (the nearest, which is reachable in only 18 car minutes), ideal for families, in ancient times fore-port of Aquileia, with its beautiful old centre and many good fish restaurants; 2) Lignano, with its sand beach, ideal for families and also for young people as their are discos and so on; 3) other rocky beaches on the coast near to Trieste (40 car minutes) - visit beautiful cities and minor towns full of history, nice shops, 'osterias' (local wine bars) and that special north-Italian flair - taste local food and wine in excellent country-side restaurants - make day excursions to Venice (from the nearby station of Cervignano there are trains every hour to Venice), Trieste (a lovely port city), Slovenia or Austria - taste excellent wine in the local cellars - go riding a bike in the lovely natural environment - go sailing in the wonderful Laguna of Grado, Gulf of Trieste and Venice
