Well equipped, warm and comfortable
Arrived on a wet afternoon in December. The wood-burner had the cabin toasty by the time I was unpacked. The facilities were excellent and matched by the easily read and comprehensive guide for guests. Will book again Norry

We had a lovely stay at Ben Lui. Kev and Sikha have thought of everything for a very cosy and comfortable stay. The cabin is well equipped and the guest information provided is excellent. The on-site community centre/bar/restaurant is also excellent and provides lovely food as well as plenty to occupy children. We hope to return someday and we can highly recommend a stay here.

Cosy cabin in a lovely location
We really enjoyed our few days here! The forest site is lovely - peaceful with beautiful walks to the Lochside. We visited Oban, 2 castles and St Conan's Kirk. The cabin is compact and cosy with a lovely woodburner for chilly nights. With an amazing take away curry shop (Black Rock Curries) close by (frozen to cook at home and simply delicious), a very friendly village shop and beautiful countryside all around Ben Lui is perfect for a stress free relaxing break. The owner is excellent to deal with and extremely helpful. We would certainly return.

A fantastic location
The lodge was cosy and clean, with a great log fire by the shore of Loch Awe on a lovely site with a friendly well-stacked little shop and cafe.

Delightful Cabin
I first stayed in Dalavich cabins when I was a child with my parents 30 years ago. I had always wanted to return. I was not disappointed, it was just as beautiful as I remembered and the Ben Lui cabin was delightful. Aside from the obvious stunning setting, it was clean, cosy and comfortable and had everything we needed, down to little touches such as a torch by the door, blankets and board games to play in the evenings by the log burner. I plan to return soon with my own children so they can experience it and make memories just like I did with my sister at their age. Thank you very much to Kev and Sikha, highly recommended.

Everything we expected, very quiet and peaceful holiday. It did help that the weather was fab for the first 4 days. Was worried about the midgies but wasn't as bad as I thought. Lovely place to stay and the locals in Dalavich were very friendly.

Lovely little cabin
This was our 3rd stay at the cabin so we knew what to expect. Perfect base for exploring Loch awe and surrounding areas. At the prices we paid for the last 3 years very good value for money, however the price for next year has increased by 50 per cent so unfortunately we have booked a different cabin for next year its bigger more modern and has hot tub and its only £50 more. Thanks to kev and sika for the last 3 years and all the best for the future. Kind regards Lee James

Hi lee. Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and for your repeated visits. We have had to increase our base price from £55 to £65 per night because of our increased overheads. We have kept it the same for over 3 years. We do put in the information you receive from us that if you wish to rebook to message us directly to eliminate the 20% booking fee. Thanks again and good luck. Bedt wishes. Kev & Sikha

Peaceful
Cabin looks larger in pictures and was a lot smaller than we imagined. Comfortable and basic with everything you need. Only couple of issues were the garden was completely overgrown so we couldn't even use the seats or log burner in garden as covered by long grass. Also the stairs up to balcony broken which could have been fixed with not much difficulty before we arrived and the fence/rail all around balcony very wobbly and quite loose. Had to tell kids not to lean on in case it broke. Needs some TLC

Hi Tracey. With every correspondence we send out our email, home and mobile number are highlighted, along with the information at the cabin and state that should you have any problems to please contact us so as we heard nothing from you during your stay assumed all was well. We could have solved any issues during your stay but I am happy to address them for you now. Sadly we cannot for see how you imagine the cabin but do provide pictures and floor plan on the listing to help you make an informed decision if you choose to book or not. We are glad you had everything you needed and would welcome any suggestions as to make it less "basic" as we provide , books and dvd's for when it is raining, umbrellas and maps for walking in the rain. Board games for children and WiFi Bird food to entice the wild life and binoculars if it is further away. And books to help identify what you find. Blankets for when it is cold and fans for when it is too hot, Charcoal and lighters and hand sanitizers inside out outside of the cabin And firewood but it has to be purchased. Just to mention a few but suggestions beyond this are very welcome. We cut the grass every 3 weeks to help encourage wild flower growth. and do leave some areas uncut if the flowers are present but the BBQ area is not left uncut, Should you have contacted us at the time we would have (a) stimmed the grass, (b) suggested that you move the BBQ to an area where there was less grass or (c) informed you that the grass is not harmful, is quite soft and will flatten out when you stand on it. If you had looked at the stairs to the balcony a little more closely you would see that at the top of the 3 stairs there is no opening on to the balcony. the stairs are an old feature and redundant. ,however to avoid and further confusion they will now be removed. And finally the balcony rail, the cabin and balcony are made of wood with the balcony measuring 9.5 meters, the handrail will flex but is secure and safe so unless your children have a habit of running at things they were perfectly safe. We are available 20 hours a day to help and our main aim is for guest to enjoy their time at the cabin as we know the last 18 months has been very challenging for everyone so to be able to get away again is precious. I do appreciate that the cabin is not perfect and being one of the original Forestry Commission cabins form 1970 you will be able to find fault as we live outside of the allowed traveling distance set by the Scottish government the last 18 months have been difficult to negotiate. With this now removed rest assured anything needed will be done. Dalavich is a beautiful place but remote, this is the main appeal for 99.9% of our guest. I hope this goes some way to settling any concerns you had during your stay.

Ben Lui is a great base!
We arrived at Been Lui late afternoon and In all honesty, it was smaller than I had imagined but it was very clean and very compact. My mum and I stayed a couple of nights. For those who enjoy peace, beauty and solitude, then this is the place. The location is truly wonderful to explore. But it is important for me to mention, that the owners are quick to respond to any enquiry, which is nice to know. The cabin is great for the money and a fabulous base! Adele

Map
About the neighborhood
Ben Lui Log Cabin is located on the shores of the stunning and tranquil Loch Awe. It is one of the largest freshwater lochs in Scotland with an approximate length of twenty five miles. It is a mecca for fishermen from far and near... and to date holds the British Isles record for the largest brown trout weighing in at just under 32lbs/14.5Kg! Salmon, sea trout, pike, perch and char are also caught on a regular basis, depending on the season. Loch Awe is beautiful, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life and as of now, still under-developed with no noisy watersports to shatter the peace. It has many islands worth visiting, including Innis Chonnel Castle, the first stronghold of the Campbells. The remains of Crannogs; pre historic island hut settlements, can still be seen when the loch is low, at different points along the lochside. There are many beautiful forest walks in the area, including The Oakwood Trail, The Avich Falls Trail and Duncan's Walk, all of which meander through ancient oak and pine forests. Pine marten, fox, wild cats red deer, roe deer, otter and red squirrels can often be seen. There are also regular sightings of eagles and ospreys. Apart from the signed trails, there is up to 100 miles of forest tracks and roads in the area, suitable for the serious walker or mountain biker. The cabins are approximately five minutes walk from the village of Dalavich which has a shop, cafe and post office where you can enjoy a morning coffee, light lunch and stock up with groceries. Take-away meals are also available from the cafe. Mountain bikes are available for hire, by the day or week. A social club is situated at the end of the cabin site which is owned by the village but guests from the cabins are warmly welcomed. The restaurant, bar and kitchens have had a complete refurbishment. The bar is open 7 nights a week (April to October) and 4 nights a week (November to March). The restaurant is now open for evening meals on Thurday to Sunday and is called The Lochview Grill. A coin-operated laundrette is also available on site.
