Paradise!
This is the best place I have ever stayed at in the Caribbean. The house is beautiful, very well appointed and private There is a fabulous quiet beach a short walk away. I wish I was back on the terrace right now watching the sun set over the sea.

Stunning getaway!
We had high expectations of this holiday and we were not disappointed! The villa and Montserrat were all we could want and more besides. We visited with 2 teenage children and there was something for all of us there. Personally I would have been happy to have spent the fortnight at the villa enjoying the pool and the veranda. But we also enjoyed the nearby beach and the rest of the island - not least because of the fantastic hospitality shown by the locals. A boat trip around the island and a hike up into the hills were amongst our more exciting experiences. We have been fortunate enough to stay in some very luxurious villas around the world, but I think this beats them all in terms of location. The villa is in a very private location with absolutely stunning views across the sea and equally spectacular sunsets. Would have loved to have stayed for longer - my daughter and I both cried when it was time to leave!!

Cliffside, direct oceanfront — a magical place...
Min-y-Don is the perfect place to experience the island of Montserrat. Very private, comfortable and well stocked, with beautiful gardens and a lovely pool, it is upscale without being formal. Best of all, it has an absolutely stunning view from its perch a few feet from the edge of the cliff above the ocean. Sitting on the wide verandas (there are two plus a separate deck), you'll feel like you are on your private stateroom balcony on an oceanliner going someplace wonderful. The fabulous daytime views are replaced at night by the moon reflected across the water like a shimmering silver carpet with the occasional brilliantly lit ship passing along the horizon, and a million stars scattered overhead across the sky. Don't miss this place. I've traveled all over the world and my stay at Min-y-Don is one of my fondest memories.

Full moon last night was fantastic, even though it was so bright it woke me at 4am.. I could walk around without putting any lights on and I saw the glorious sight of its reflection in the sea.

Carribean Chill!!
Having stayed at Min-Y-Don several times now (and on my way back this month) I can sincerley and without hesitation recommend the villa to anyone or indedd any family looking for a truly relaxing Carribean experience. The villa is in a wonderful location perched on a cliff overlooking and overhearing the azure Carribean sea below. The house is well appointed and very comfortable offering privacy as well as a great sun-downer terrace for all to gather in the late afternoon/early evening. Wishing all who visit a wonderfull relaxing stay.

Great place to be alone yet near to everything. Gorgeous cliffside views!
We watched this villa turn into a wonderful visitor's destination when the present owners turned it into their own home away from home while opening it to share with the world as well. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to return to the island and be able to stay at Min Y Don. So close to Woodlands Beach, so close to the best places on the island to eat, and yet so secluded you can enjoy your own private world here. Beautiful pool, beautiful surroundings, beautiful accoutrements with a gourmet's kitchen to boot. To sit on the upstairs deck at night and hear the tree frog's songs with the sounds of the waves below as a background, it's a wonderful place to discover while rediscovering yourselves... Thank you, Sian and Peter.

Our Heavenly Honeymoon
This supremely comfortable and relaxing house on unspoilt Montserrat was the ideal honeymoon location. After marrying in the depths of a Great British Winter, arriving on this warm, fragrant island in a tiny plane, just as the sun was setting, was absolutely magical. As for the view from the veranda, it took our breath away. Don't expect to find a throbbing metropolis, a lively club scene, shopping malls or water parks. Montserrat could be twinned with Father Ted's Craggy Island. There are no ugly, slab-sided hotels, no jumbo jets disgorging hundreds of tourists, no monstrous cruise ships dwarfing Woodlands Beach. Staying at Min-y-Don couldn't be further from the all-inclusive resort style of Caribbean holiday. The house is a second home - well equipped and much loved. It's tempting to stay there all day, lounging by the pool, gazing out towards Redonda and Nevis, listening to the crash of the waves below, watching iguanas sunning themselves on the lawn, pelicans and frigate birds soaring past, hummingbirds dipping delicately into the hibiscus. If you can tear yourself away, there are some charming places to eat locally, and we also enjoyed the adventure of foraging for ingredients in the local shops and cooking meals to eat on the veranda. The internet was used to check the hideous weather at home - airports closed due to snow etc - and gloat, but otherwise we were so chilled we weren't tempted to use it. Mount Soufriere, Montserrat's volcano, was very lively indeed during our stay - it has been peaceful since a partial dome collapse the month after our visit - which added to the sense of adventure. It was an extraordinary privilege to witness phenomena that most people rarely if ever see. We will never forget our honeymoon on Montserrat. I have an enduring memory of sipping gin and tonic on the deck and seeing the elusive 'green flash' as the sun sank below the horizon, knowing that nothing could be more perfect.

A little piece of heaven in the Carribean
A little piece of heaven in the Carribean and a holiday of a lifetime! Min Y Don has tranquility, spectacular sunsets and a 180 degree of the Carribean with very convenient access to the whole of the Island and it was the inspiration for 2 songs on the Album I recorded after my visit there. Outstanding!

Rest and relaxation in fabulous surroundings!
This was my second stay at Min-Y-Don. One always wonders whether to return to somewhere you have stayed at before in case the memories one had of the first visit could not be repeated? This was not the case for I felt I was 'coming home' again. I had the downstairs apartment, fully equipped and very very comfortable, great shower and wonderfully soft linen. At the end of a long day ( I was there on business, really!) to be able to relax with a G&T looking out at the sunset, and the small island of Redondo in the distance with the lights of St Kitts twinkling on the horizon... Bliss. And Yes I did see the green flash! Cooling off in the pool, a light supper then early to bed for the early mornings on Montserrat are not to missed as iguana climb the trees to catch the first warmth of the sun, the Montserrat Oriole calling from the Sea almond tree, the scent of frangi pani and the sound of the waves breaking on the shore below. It was so hard to leave this oasis each day BUT what a place to come home to each evening! I am looking forward to my return trip next March.

"A beautiful spot that was absolutely perfect for us"
My enjoyment of Min-Y-Don started long before our actual adventure began. Sian W., the owner, provided, in advance of our arrival, a FAQ sheet on the property and on Montserrat Island which was of tremendous value. She also promptly and thoroughly answered all my many additional questions. Once there, after dark, our first impressions was ""is that really the surf we hear crashing below"? The weather and sea had been unsettled for several days previous; it was particularly dramatic. Later, as the seas calmed and the waves mellowed, the song changed. Powerful or soothing, it became our Christmas Carol of choice. In the 10 days we were there near the end of December, we never turned on the television, radio, or any electronic device, and were never tempted to do so. By day, the view is stunning. The ever changing Caribbean Sea, the tiny island of Redondo, and Nevis in the distance. In addition, the view from the upper deck includes a lovely one of the very private Woodland's Beach far below. We enjoyed many fine times on this unspoiled island: hiking the Oriole Walkway with the excellent trail guide "Scriber", an adventurous boat ride to Rendezvous Beach with Andrew, a very comprehensive tour of the northern portion of the island with tour guide Joe Phillips, and a delicious meal at Ziggy's (in a tent!!), to name only a few. Nonetheless, our finest moments were those spent at this lovely, secluded, well constructed and appointed villa. We ate, gazed, and just "chilled" on the deck. My husband spent so much time there, binoculars in hand, that we think a particular chair need a plaque saying "Bill's Place". Earlier reviews are brimming with additional accolades, so read on. One clear night, with all the lights in the villa extinguished, we viewed the most magnificent night sky I have seen in many, many years. Light hearted moments include a large iguana in the pool, who stubbornly held his ground despite attempts to oust him/her, and an adopted chicken who we came to adore, and who ended up eating all the oats we brought along for our special oatmeal. If you are looking for an unspoiled island, with no cruise ships, very little crime, no hotels, no tipping, no credit card use, and with sincerely friendly locals who are eager to help, and make your stay a totally positive experience, I would say Montserrat and Min-Y-Don are right for you as well. About the neighborhood
The location is fairly secluded, but with a few other residential homes within walking distance. You can walk to Woodlands Beach (about 10 minutes) but it is hilly. The beach has a shower, changing rooms & toilet, but no other amenities. The house is right on the cliff, looking directly over the Caribbean Sea, providing magnificent views of the sunsets, which can be spectacular specially when you see the Green Flash as the sun disappears below the horizon. You will need a hire car.
Getting around
There are no other amenities or shops within walking distance, so a hire car is strongly recommended. There is ample parking on the property. You must get a local driving licence from the Police Station before driving - you must produce your driving licence from your own country & the fee is EC $ 50. We can help you with that. Alternatively, there are buses which run fairly regularly on the main road throughout the daytime - the main road is up a hill from the house and is about 20 minute walk.

How to get there
To get to Montserrat, you have to travel via Antigua and then either get the ferry or the small plane (6 seater). Check the Fly Montserrat website. The ferry is not recommended in the winter as Montserrat has only a very basic port and the ferry cannot dock in high seas. Antigua airport is a challenge! Remember to pack essentials such as medication, toothbrush and swim wear in your hand luggage. We can help with car hire and will meet you at airport in Montserrat. We can also provide details of local tour guides for hiking, boating or driving tours.
