The chalet is perfectly situated in the centre of Onnion in its own private and spacious gardens. The Hotel Mont Blanc is 150 metres away and has a restaurant and bar. There is a local shop as well as an excellent boulangerie just 100 metres away in the centre of the village. The (summer only) municipal open air swimming pool is 150 metres away. The chalet has free WiFi, a TV and DVD player, CD player, fridge/freezer, oven and hob, enclosed log fire place (with free wood !), one bathroom downstairs, one shower room with WC upstairs and a separate WC downstairs. The chalet is 'No Smoking' throughout. The chalet operates on the normal French holiday letting system - you will bring your own duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases and towels. Everything else is provided. We can supply bed linen and towels at an additional cost of 15 Euros per person (with notice please). Skiing: Les Brasses (800 metres): 50km of local downhill ski runs and another 50km of Nordic ski tracks. The cost of ski passes is a pleasant surprise compared to the larger resorts. Larger ski resorts of Morzine (35km), Avoriaz, Flaine (27km) and Chamonix (61km) are all within easy driving distance, along with many smaller resorts e.g. Praz-de-Lys (8km) or Hirmentez (7km). There is an excellent ski shop in the village (Nicoud Sports). There is a free ski bus (Navette) during Holiday weeks. See the Les Brasses tourist office for détails. In summer the Les Brasses area, is a sports paradise. road cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, climbing, walking. Cycling in the Alps is a pleasant experience compared to the UK. Drivers are generally patient and respectful and leave a generous gap as they pass. Tour De France climbs nearby are: Col du Ramaz (8km), Col du Aravis (18 km), Le Grand Bornand - Col du Romme (20km) , Col de la Columbiere (43 km), and Samoens - Joux Plane (29 km). There are lots of local cols too such as Plaine Joux, col de Feu, col deTerramont, Mt Anjou and col de Cou. All are accessible directly from the village. Motor Cycling: Explore the Route des Grande Alpes and the fabulous mountain roads. The area is a biker's paradise. Visit Samoens for a coffee and cake and take in the breathtaking views. Alternatively, just collect cols ! There are plenty of them. Italy can be accessed via Mt Blanc Tunnel or via Switzerland and the stunning col de Montets and Simplon Pass. Onnion is a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding Haute Savoie area, with Lake Leman, Thonon, Evian and Annecy just a short drive or ride away. The village outdoor swimming pool is popular in the summer months, as are the municipal tennis courts. The village also hosts many festivities during peak season, at which visitors to the region are always made to feel very welcome. Market day is Saturday. Geneva is the closest airport (42 km/45 min). Geneva airport is also served by the largest number of budget Airlines. More

Deceptively large chalet and having 2 bathrooms was a bonus! Perfect location for day trips which was ideal since the snow conditions were not great. The host answered any queries quickly and had our one issue resolved in a timely fashion.

About the neighborhood
Onnion is just a few kilometres drive up the mountain from St Jeoire. St Jeoire is a small town with all of the shops, hotels, bars, supermarkets, banks, petrol stations, post office, tourist information, bus services, and eveything else that you might need. Further up the mountain there are the cross country and alpine ski areas of Plaine Joux and Les Brasses. In the summer these are very popular with mountain bikers, walkers and road cyclists. The large towns of Annemasse, close to Geneva, and Cluses, on the way to Chamonix, can be easily reached by car within 16-20 min. Annemasse, Cluses and Geneva have all of the shopping that anyone can manage ! The lake at Geneva is also a popular tourist attraction.
Getting around
Although there is public transport, a car or motor cycle is recommended in order to take advantage of the wider Haute Savoie area. Of course, if you are a keen cyclist then you can even cycle from Geneva Airport as it is only 42 km although luggage carriage might be an issue...
