Wonderfully peaceful and beautiful!
10 days spent in this beautiful location, the lodge had all we needed, greeted by a wonderful hamper of home grown produce, including homemade jam & bread! It was so relaxing, the wildlife amazing, fishing brilliant. Not a holiday for those who need to be doing something all the time although nearby towns worth a visit. Highly recommended for any couple wishing to just jump off the roundabout of life and live basically but with nature! Oh the sky at night, awesome! light the fire pit, open a bottle and talk, chill and laugh! Having spent a lot of money on exclusive holidays in the past, this one tops it all for the most relaxing and didn't cost a fortune, great value for money! Jane & Steve wonderful hosts sharing their beautiful land, they do leave you alone to just get on with it, or if you want their company, great hosts, fun to be with and Jane is a great cook and offers a pretty stunning menu if you want to eat with them! All in all, one of the most memorable holidays we have had, no TV, just peace and quiet! Amazing place would recommend to anyone recovering, escaping, writing, reading, a little oasis when you feel like you want to have a slice of the world to yourself for a while! The cockerel's wake you up sometimes early but it doesn't matter, most of the time we didn't even know what time of day it was! Tip, don't steal sweetcorn from the fields, it's animal feed and doesn't barbecue! Apparently the French don't eat it off the cob anyway not like us! We will be back one day x

A sublime oasis!
Peony Lodge is sublime! We arrived early evening and were instantly in love with the view from the top of the hill. Steve and Jane were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Steve showed us around the grounds of the house and the facilities, and eventually to our lodge. They really have thought of everything to ensure a comfortable, calm and relaxing stay. The lodge itself is charming; warm, comfortable and functional. The shabby-chic style and spacious lodge provided everything we needed for a very relaxing break that enabled us to unwind, read books, enjoy the French wine and food, engage with nature and re-charge our very tired batteries. The only 'noise' that you can here while staying here is the birds in the trees, the quacking of the resident ducks, the slurping of the carp in the lake and the wind rustling the leaves. Perfect for busy minds to be able to switch off and completely relax. We had dinner 'en famile' and can thoroughly recommend doing this; the home cooked food was delicious, the company was excellent and the wine, of course, was delicious! Peony lodge is a great base from which lots of local places of beauty and interest can be accessed. We woke early one morning to drive to Bordeaux to explore a wine chateau and enjoy the delights of St Emilion which is something else we would recommend if you are ever in the area. Another attraction not too far away is the Puy Du Fou; an excellent and enternatining day out. One if the main reasons for us choosing Peony Lodge was the 'no children' factor - bliss! We will be back!

Wonderful stay from start to finish
Steve and Jane were absolutely fantastic hosts and the lodge and its surroundings are second to none anywhere. They helped us out enormously when we needed it and were very gracious about it. We had drinks with them on arrival and dinner at the house on our last night and they were charming company and very generous with the wine! We had a wonderful stay and we cannot wait to revisit the lodge.

A hidden gem!
My partner and I have just returned from a perfect stay in Peony Lodge - so glad we found The Good Life! The lodge was beautifully furnished and included everything that you would possibly need. The hosts Steve & Jane had even provided a hamper full of home grown/made produce (vegetables, eggs, jam, butter, orange juice, milk and even wine!) which was a really nice touch and just what we needed after a long drive. Steve & Jane also include a menu for your stay should you wish to eat together - we did this on our first night and the food (and drink) was absolutely delicious - Jane even gave us the recipe for the sausages! We were only staying for 3 nights/2 days but spent one day cycling around the 'La Venise Vert' - a network of cycle routes along the canal, and the other day just relaxing by the lake and enjoying the sunshine in the sun loungers and hammocks provided. Such a relaxing break and would definitely recommend staying here - we would love to return and this time stay for longer.

This truely is 'The Good Life'!
We had such a lovely relaxing stay at Peony lodge this summer and couldn't have asked for more. The setting is beautiful and so quiet, great if you want to get away from it all. Jane and Steve were fantastic hosts and made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived. On arrival we had cold wine waiting in the fridge (amazing!) along with fresh homemade apple juice, eggs, butter, vegetables, milk and bread! The lodge was really well equipped with everything thought about, including fridge, freezer, picnic hamper with cool blocks to use if we wanted to go for a picnic, lanterns, BBQ and a lovely comfortable bed and WIFI! We also had the weather report for our stay printed out with the menu choices during the week if we wanted to have dinner with our hosts - which we did and it was delicious! Steve was our chauffeur for an afternoon and took us on a wine tasting tour at local vineyards which was great fun. La Rochelle, Il De Re and Little Venice are all within easy reach so it is a great base to use as well if you want to go out and explore the area. Great holiday, great setting and great hosts and I would highly recommend.
