Newly listed here in June 2017, Tir Nan Og is a spacious, relaxing and comfortable two double-bedroom home ideal for your perfect, tranquil and peaceful holiday getaway. Situated on the north coast and just 1.5 miles from the A836, which is part of the scenic highland route, our beautiful, warm and cosy, cavity-wall insulated home sits near the top of a highland glen in Kirtomy, 4 miles from Bettyhill and the sweeping sandy expanse of Farr Beach. With stunning and uninterrupted views from the living room, dining room and master bedroom over to the Atlantic Ocean, you will feel instantly connected with the tranquility and peacefulness of the sea and surrounding countryside. Watching the lights of distant fishing boats on the horizon at night from the living room (particularly while listening to the poetic shipping forecast after midnight on radio 4!) is a totally soothing and calming experience, and will make for a unique holiday you will never forget. Newly redecorated, and freshly re-carpeted throughout with new beds, Tir Nan Og will immediately make you feel at home, totally de-stressed and relaxed, the instant you walk in. With the living room set with a nautical theme and the remaining rooms with a “Nordic” feel, you will get a sense of being “on the edge of civilization” but with all the creature comforts of home. Being so far from the noise and pollution of towns and cities and with air quality like champagne, you’re guaranteed a very healthy holiday. Comfortable beds, and total absence of traffic noise, will ensure that you get a restful and peaceful night’s sleep. Tir Nan Og has one king size, one large double and 2 “Jaybe” folding beds, so can accommodate up to six. The south bedroom has a toilet and washbasin, and the nautical-themed bathroom with electric shower is on the ground floor. Being that the bathroom is at ground level, one of the 2 folding beds can be set up at ground level in the living room and that there is a low-angled ramp to the front door, disabled access may be possible dependent on the level of disability. Please bear in mind for disabled access that all doors, internal and external, are standard width. There is enough room for 2 cars parked in-line on the drive-in at the side of the house. With a large (0.2 acre), gently sloping back garden and a fairy house at the top, Tir Nan Og is ideally suited to families with children of any age. Children will love the huge expanse of the rear garden they can safely play in, and the rich variety of the wonders of the local nature they can seek out. Virtually any item you’d need in a hurry or an emergency can be purchased at the Bettyhill Store just 4 miles away, and tasty fresh food and sandwiches are available Monday-Saturday at Bettyhill post office. For those who enjoy a fine evening dining out, local restaurants include the Cote Du Nord at the old schoolhouse in Kirtomy which offers exquisite cuisine (with only a small number of covers and an unrivalled reputation, it usually has to be booked well in advance!), the fabulous Bettyhill Hotel restaurant and bar which make for perfect evening dining, and the Halladale Inn in Melvich. For those like myself who love everything to do with astronomy, Kirtomy boasts the finest astronomical seeing conditions in the UK thanks to the total absence of streetlighting. The night skies from September to April are velvet black, and on cloudless, moonless nights, the milky way, resplendent with packed star fields, stretches from the zenith all the way down to the seaward horizon. When solar conditions and dark skies favour, the northern lights (Aurora Borealis) can be seen dancing on the seaward horizon, and are an eerie and beautiful sight. Kirtomy is surrounded by beautiful countryside and rugged coastline; there are many interesting walks to be had, including a footpath down to the unique and beautiful Kirtomy bay, or a climb up the highland glens with views stretching to tens of miles from the summit. Other activities include fishing, birdwatching, (there are many rare and interesting birds to be seen along the coastline including Puffins at the estuary of the river Naver at Bettyhill), rock pool exploring, surfing on Farr Beach or Thurso Beach, munro bagging, hill jogging, cycling, and swimming/fitness training at the North Coast leisure centre in Bettyhill on Sundays. And of course, there are the delights of Smoo Cave, the causeway at the Kyle of Tongue, The gorgeous and most northerly point of the UK, Dunnet Head, and last but not least, John O’Groats. Whatever you plan to do when you get here, don’t forget to bring some warm/waterproof clothing, suitable footwear and a pair of binoculars! More

About the neighborhood
Kirtomy is one of the most tranquil, peaceful places in the UK you could possibly wish for to enjoy for your unique holiday experience. Nestling amongst many highland glens which roll down towards the rugged northern coastline just 500 metres way and teeming with sub-arctic wildlife, Kirtomy will leave you with fond memories of the charm and character of the local area which you will always want to repeat and never forget.
Getting around
Being so uniquely rural and beautifully isolated as Kirtomy is, you do need your own transport to get here, be it by car or motorcycle. Indeed, during the summer months, the scenic highland route, of which the A836 just 1.5 miles away, is highly favoured by motorcycling enthusiasts. If you fancy a day out to the Orkney group of Islands, the ferry leaves daily from Scrabster in Thurso. Buses travel to Thurso and Bettyhill from the A836 twice daily. There are daily flights south from Wick airport, which is 50 miles by car.
