Liz and Mike have made part of their property into excellent holiday accommodation. The gite was very clean and well equipped. The location ensured a very quiet and peaceful holiday. Huge number of Chateaux in the area to visit and Saumur/ Tours/Angers within easy reach. Detailed info file at the property and parking permit for the local towns a bonus....

We spent a great week here with our 6 month old baby. The accommodation was fantastic and Lis provided a cot and lots of other baby equipment for us. The location is good although it is necessary to drive for all activities- this does mean it is very remote which is what we wanted. The only negative was the rear...

Management response:

We are very pleased that Ellen & family enjoyed their stay in our gite. It is true that the private garden ( for the exclusive use of this gite's clients) is overlooked by two of the ground floor windows of our own private accommodation but this is no more than many owners of housing in the Uk experience where back...

The property was lovely, the proprietors friendly and very helpful. We went to the area to do some cycling, which was great, as it mostly flat!

About the neighborhood
Genneteil is well placed - if it were a mountain, it would be the peak! Major Cities, autoroutes and good transport links (including rail and air) surround Genneteil on all sides - essentially less than 1 hour in any direction. Genneteil has at its heart a Norman Church, only now used for special occasions such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, although it does have some beautiful ancient frescoes which were found a few years ago and restored recently. The church acts as a roundabout of sorts connecting the roads coming from all directions. Essentially a rural community, Genneteil has no particular claim to fame (except its history) but the locals are very friendly - especially if you take the opportunity to practice your French! Genneteil has a dairy from which you can purchase fresh... more
Getting around
This section is for us to tell you about public transport that you could use. In short, there isn't any closer than about 20 minutes drive - sorry, but you really do need your own vehicle to get from here to the major towns where there are buses, trains and so on for going further afield - to Paris or Le Mans for example.
Taxis are (theoretically) available - but expensive, due to the distances they need to travel.

How to get there
Airport: Tours: 40.4 mi
Railway: Le Mans (TGV): 31.1 mi
Ferry: St Malo: 146.0 mi
From the UK we are easily accessible by road, some 2.5-4 hours due South from the channel ports of St Malo, Cherbourg, Caen and Le Havre. If you want to see a little more of Northern France, or indeed if your preferred UK port is Dover/Folkestone then the journey from Calais/ Boulogne is around 5-6 hours. You can get to Calais & Boulogne with P&O, Sea France, Eurotunnel etc. We have our own route plan from Calais - please ask if you'd like to see it.

The easiest route is the Autoroute which essentially follows the coastline Southwesterly from Calais to Rouen, then turns South towards Le Mans. We are about 45 minutes drive South of Le Mans.

The autoroutes have regular 'aires' - places to stop with basic or more extensive facilities. Whether you need to give the kid...
