We were a party of anglers fishing the nearby River Dee. The house is conveniently located for both the river and town. Prior to the visit I was concerned that the house looked from the photos rather small to accommodate 8 guests as advertised, however a substantial extension at the rear comprising kitchen, dining area and utility meant there was...

Management response:

We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We do call the house a tardis as it bigger than it looks! Glad you didn't have to drink out of teacups and well done on the parking, you do have to be clever and park close to the dividing wall, sometimes we make the passengers get out before reversing. Our housekeeper does...

About the neighborhood
Often called 'The Gateway to Deeside', Banchory is approximately half hour's drive west of the city of Aberdeen and a favourite of many Aberdonians who fancy getting away from the buzz of the city for a few hours. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops mean it has the quiet calm of a country village with enough facilities to keep everyone content.

Down by the large and well-maintained park, Banchory has a mini-amusement park - perfect for keeping small children happy for a while. Banchory acts as a suntrap in the summer and the park is thronged with sun worshippers.

Banchory's history dates back to around the 5th century when St Ternan sought refuge among pagan Picts before converted them to Christianity. The churchyard marks the spot where he established a small mona...

Buses are frequent to and from Aberdeen, it about an hours journey.

If you are travelling from down south (i.e south of Perth), and you have the time, consider taking the Braemar road from Perth which will bring you to Banchory from the West via Braemar, Ballater and Aboyne. It is long and windy but has beautiful views and stopping off places. If you want to cut off time from the main road after Dundee – either take the;Cairn O Mount (?B974) road via Fettercairn, just after Stracathro services past Brechin (this is a spectacular twisty, and hilly road - not recommended if there has been snow or ice - but one of the best viewpoints in this area (stop at the top!)) OR take the Banchory road (also called the Slug road) from Stonehaven (this is the second Banchory exit from the bypass) after you have gone under the railway viaduct.Heading through Banc... more
