TripAdvisor CERTIFICATE of EXCELLENCE achieved 2017 and now 2018. This one bedroomed 17th Century holiday Cottage is especially designed for a romantic get away for couples in mind. It is located in a lovely historical village called Ebchester in County Durham, England. There is a Roman Fort buried beneath the grazing field at the back of the cottage and Red Kite birds are frequently sighted flying around the area. The birds have become synonymous with the area and have been embraced, so much so that there is a pub named after them, a red kite bus service and red kite bronze sculptures designed and displayed in the area. The cottage has consistently achieved a four - five star rating over the years. The cottage is a 17th Century holiday cottage in a semi rural setting, in the village of Ebchester, which is a conservation area and is steep... Read more

I agree with the host's statement about the cottage. However the stairs is steep and there is no garden to relax in. Suitable as a place to sleep when exploring Durham and surrounds.

About the neighborhood
The cottage is situated within a village setting, in a conservation area. There are countryside views and walks from the door, a river around the corner which forms part of The River Derwent, for fishing, picnics, exploring and being in an area of historical importance, you might a few little artifacts peppered around the place. There is a Roman Fort buried beneath the field at the rear of the cottage. There is a well known artists studio nearby. There is a little village shop that sells newspapers, lottery and grocery essentials and a historical chiming church. There are a few good pubs in the village, with good food, wines, ales. There is lots of nature to explore and Red Kite Birds are unique to the area, and can be seen flying around.
