The cottage
The Boathouse is an idyllic cottage on the spectacular Fowey River Estuary, just two miles from Fowey and a step away from the water’s edge. A converted boathouse and lime kiln, the cottage is one of the oldest buildings in the picturesque village of Golant.
Comfortable and welcoming with magnificent views across the river, there is a log fire for cosy winter holidays and a private terrace ideal for spring and summer barbecues.
The cottage accommodation
The accommodation is reversed so that the living area has the benefit of the wonderful views over the river. In the light and airy living room white walls and prints complement a mixture of antiques and comfortable furnishings, with the dining area looking out over the inner harbour.

Great location, off street parking, responsive host, good amenities.
Double bed was uncomfortable, this is a complaint with a lot of holiday lets though. When you stay at a hotel that's one thing that they usually spend money on.

Peaceful relaxing holiday
The Boathouse is a lovely cottage situated on the side of the Fowey river estuary. The cottage was very well equipped, clean and beautifully furnished. We had fantastic views of the river, the bird life and all the different boating activities taking place, there was always something happening. The terrace was also a lovely place to relax, eat breakfast and have a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area.
We ate out a number of times at the local pub, The Fisherman’s Arms and we had some excellent meals.
All in all, the cottage and the location were perfect and we would definitely like to holiday there again.

Tranquil stay in Cornwall
My mother and I had such a wonderful stay in Golant that we didn't want to leave. The cottage truly felt like home with many personal touches and everything you could need. Judith went out of her way to make us feel welcome with lots of goodies on our arrival. The beds were super comfortable and we slept soundly every night. It was so peaceful watching the boats on the river every day and the tide rising and falling. Golant is a lovely little village and the local pub is great for a quiet drink on a sunny afternoon. We did make the mistake of coming back after 8pm one night only to be confronted with a tide so high it covered the whole road! Luckily a friendly local showed us a different way to drive to the cottage without getting our feet wet. It was a magical stay and we would love to come again.

Better than a small hotel!
The Boathouse is a pleasure to be in, comfortable and very well equiped. Thank you, Judith, for the "welcome pack". It was fantastic to arrive with lots of Cornish goodies to sample after our long journey. Over and above what was required. It's a long time since I had clotted cream tea!!
The cottage is very near the Eden Project and the lost Gardens of Heligan. Even Padstow is only about 45 minutes away by car. The Golant area is picturesque, really interesting and full of history.
I found myself facinated with the tides which are remarkable and the estuary views from the cottage. There is even a pair of binoculars provided to get a closer look at the wildlife.
I'm sure we'll venture back again.

What a treat! Can't wait to go back.
As with other reviewers the welcome you receive from the owner Judith couldn't be more friendly. A full cream tea all laid out for our arrival was just the start of a great week. What makes the Boathouse so wonderful is Judith's attention to detail, small things like a new bag of fresh ground coffee, freshly picked herbs in a vase in the kitchen, a jar full of teabags, milk in the fridge, a small pat of butter in its own covered dish soft enough for immediate use, a bottle of wine...and the list goes on.
The boathouse is superbly situated with only a very quiet road separating it from the sea. Parking at the house can be a little tricky if you have a big car but Judith has an alternative private slot only a few yards away.
Golant is very small and quiet but well situated to go to Fowey only a few miles away and also not far from St Austell where there are supermarkets if you need to do a major shop. There are some wonderful walks around the area with spectacular scenery. Even in the middle of winter there were many flowers out and a lot of greenery.
The house was always lovely to come back to after a long day out, it was warm and had a great atmosphere. Well done Judith, now I know why they say houses reflect their owners!

Perfect Cornish Holiday
Everything was lovely, Judith was very helpful and on arrival we had everything we could need and more, it was perfect.
The cottage is very well equipped and clearly well looked after. The location was perfect for us, the village pub was good and we could drive out to visit all the lovely places in this part of Cornwall. The parking at the cottage was fine for our car which is always a plus point!
My favourite part of the stay? Being able to have breakfast in the morning sunshine while watching tide come in and the birds going about their day. Lovely

Fantastic cottage with beautiful views
I’m so glad we chose to stay at the Boat House. It was so relaxing and peaceful. A lot of attention has been given to ensure that visitors have everything they need. The cottage has been decorated and furnished to a high standard. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well. There were a number of welcome gifts available on arrival including a cream tea and milk in the fridge - very useful as we arrived on a Sunday evening. The village was well located just a short drive from Fowey and has a friendly local pub. The views from the window were a real treat all day long and one night we sat in the garden and watched a meteor shower- amazing! Judith was very communicative and friendly. Will definitely choose the Boat House again!

Lying about 3 miles upriver from Fowey, Golant is a pretty waterside village. Much loved as a stop off on a river trip or kayaking expedition, the village is in a stunning position hugging the banks of the river, the views here are tremendous.
During the summer months the river and village are busy with boating activity but in the quieter winter months a great variety of birdlife can be seen on the water – egrets, cormorants, herons, kingfishers as well as ducks and swans.
The village has a hotel and restaurant with 2 AA Rosettes for dining and a local pub serving real ales, the pub has regular entertainment including live music and a beer festival.
Getting around
There are many options for getting around, the most popular is by river. Kayak hire is available close to the Boathouse ( details you will find on arrival ). There are lovely walks in the area including the Saints Way which takes you along the river Fowey into the town of Fowey. Approx time 1.5 hours, if you drive it will take 15 minutes.
There are many more ideas / options all included in the information folder in the Boathouse.
