About the neighborhood
Defoe House is ideally placed for exploring the New Forest with many attractions nearby. Childrens activities include Moors Valley, Paultons Park, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Longdown Dairy Farm, bicycle hire, Lymington salt water baths (summer only!), kayaking on the Beaulieu River and numerous riding stables to name but a few. Garden-lovers can treat themselves to the delights of Exbury, Spinners and Furzey Gardens, all of which are within 30 minutes from the property. For those wishing to visit the Isle of Wight, the ferry terminal is only 5 minutes away in Lymington. Further afield the historic dockyard of Portsmouth and also Bournemouth and Winchester are under an hour away.
Getting around
Ideally it is best to have a car if you wish to be totally independent. However there us a limited bus service that comes into our village. Cycling and walking are great ways to enjoy the forest including extensive cycle tracks .
