Our recent week-end visit to Hay-on-Wye was a delightful experience and we especially appreciated the easy access on foot from Chancery Cottage to the nearby bookshops, restaurants, pubs and further afield via public footpath into the surrounding countryside. A comfortable and well-appointed place of rest.

Loved this comfortable, very well equipped and dog friendly cottage in a perfect town centre location. Hay on Wye and the surrounding area is stunning, especially in the Autumn, we were even blessed with good weather! We'll definitely visit again.

About the neighborhood
Hay-on-Wye is a charming market town which is well known for its second hand bookshops. Each year in May it is the home of the Hay-on-Wye Literature Festival attracting the top selling authors from around the world. The town has a variety of fascinating individual shops from antiques, gifts to shoes and clothes. There are a number of cafes to watch the world go by and charming traditional pubs which offer the local brews and ciders.
Getting around
The most convenient way to see Hay town itself is to walk - You can stroll out from the Chancery Cottage to get the morning paper, delicious home cooked breakfast, browsing the book, clothes and gift shops or visit the superb cafes, restaurants and local cinema. There are lovely walks by the River Wye, around the Castle and the Warren (great for the dogs to have a run). There are buses from Hay to the local towns and tourist attractions. For ease if you have your own car, or can hire one, the Brecon Beacons is breath taking with superb walks to suit all levels or walkers or cyclists. You can hire bicycles or take a canoe down the Wye - all good fun and all very accessible.
