We loved staying in our Viking Cottage. It was so nice to have a spacious place with a personal hot tub all to ourselves! The heated floors were amazing, and the bed in the loft was very comfortable. The location is just a few minutes drive from the Forest Lagoon and downtown Akureyri and about a half hour from Goðafoss waterfall. It is beautiful to look across the fjord and see the town and the mountains from the cottage. A perfect vacation getaway spot! It was our favorite place we stayed in Iceland and wished we'd stayed for more than two nights.

Incredible, comfortable, spacious, modern, cozy.
Apartment 15B was our favorite accommodation during Iceland road trip. We stayed 2 nights, wished to stay longer. The style of apartment is contemporary, well appointed, cozy, in an ideal location across the bay, 10 minute drive from the town. Pristine clean. Stylish. Heated floor. Excellent water pressure in the rain shower. Private hot tub on a terrace outside of living room. Washer and dryer. Would I stay here again? Definitely. I'd live there. Enthusiastically recommended.

Mixed Feelings
Ok, this is a difficult one to review but I will just say it as it was. First of all, the location was beautiful overlooking Akureyi. We stayed in the one bedroomed property 15c for 2 nights (should have been 3 but see later comment). The property itself is quirky, the bedroom had lovely views, the shower and bathroom was lovely and the kitchen well equipped. What was lacking was comfortable chairs to sit on as there wasn't a sofa available, just 2 dining chairs downstairs in the kitchen and then 1 chair upstairs. The stairs are very steep so wouldn't suit an older person but we knew that before we booked. Also the bed is away from the wall and cannot be pushed back so the pillows fall down the back whilst sleeping and make for an uncomfortable sleep so despite putting clothes piled up with the pillows etc we still struggled. The hot tub was great also and we managed to see the northern lights. Would I stay again ? I would in the summer but not in the winter. Our main issue was that we were travelling from Reykjavik to Akureyi in the winter. Unbeknown to us, the roads can be trecherous in winter and despite doing our best and travelling for 5 hours, the last 50km of our trip we got stuck in snowdrifts and they closed the road so there was no way of us getting there. Very scary at the time and we had to suddenly find alternative emergency accommodation obviously at an extra cost. I kept the owner informed and I asked if it was possible for a refund for the 1 night we missed or even a partial refund to go towards the extra cost...or even a bottle of wine or something would have been a nice touch considering the lengths we had gone to in order to get there. We didn't even get a response to the email so basically paid for 3 nights and stayed 2. I understand that the owner is not obliged to refund and it is just our bad luck but I would definitely point out to others that if you book in winter there is a chance you will not get there and the owner will not be understanding in a refund at all. So, summer time yes I recommend but in winter avoid this property as you may become unstuck through no fault of your own.

Wonderful !
When you arrive outside the Viking Cottage you get the feeling that this is going to be something special, so when you open the door you walk into cosy, open and wery welcoming atmosfere. The bedroom has a comfortble bed with nice linen and a quality duvet.
The bathroom is stylish with a wonderful shower, the kitchen fully equipped, good sound system and the place is furnished with simple but cool, fun furnitures.
The hottub was nice after a whole day of skiing.
The view over Akureyri and the ski resort from the second floor bedroom was fantastic.
The whole place had a feeling of welcoming you and made you feel right at home.
We took together houses 15c and 15B, for total of 5 persons and this was really really nice stay for all of us.

Disappointing
First the good things: The cottage was nice and light with gorgeous views and a an attractive decking area over looking the fjord and only a short drive into town in a quiet area. There was a washing machine which was very useful after a week on the road. The bathroom with shower was great and the kitchen was OK.
Now the not so good things: The lounge chair was not the one in the photos we'd seen. It was ugly, thin and uncomfortable and a bit grubby. The tiny dinding table was pockmarked, the rug was curling at the edges and there was no bedside table in the tiny bedroom - only a chair on one side - and no bedside light. The garden was strewn with huge weeds and the hot tub was almost impossible to get to because of said weeds so we didn't bother, unfortunately. The towels were very thin. The step up to the front door was too high and tricky to get our suitcases up.
It's beyond me how this could be rated 9.8 out of 10 in 2015 unless a alot has changed.
This cottage could be a real gem with a little TLC.

We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations because as you point out, most of our customer reviews are very good, we have 9.1 on booking.com, 5/5 on Airbnb and most reviews on Tripadvisor are comparable. We choose not to mow the lawn and choose to have the hot tub located in the wild to enhance the experience of not being urban as it is very nice to be in the hot tub in winter when the northern lights are there because there is no light pollution, during summer you have the high weeds surrounding you while you can enjoy the view. Some of what you mention indoors fits well, the bedroom is small but we've replaced the kitchen table because of the damage it has, the sofa/sofabed is a Icelandic design and filled with Icelandic wool which makes it very warm and comfortable to sleep on, sorry to hear you didn't like it . Thank you for your stay and giving you time to write us a review, we always want to do better :)

Good stay but needs some tweaks to make it amazing
The location is great, close to Akureyi and the apartment is nice however the hot tub was not good due to the fact there is no path. It is situated at the back of the property and the area is very over grown with no lights so we were fighting the super long grass with a torch to get to it when all they needed to do was put down some stones and one light. There is a great decking at the side of the property so I have no idea why they did not put it there

Hi, thank you for your review. The reason why we have the hot tub where it is so you feel more private and also the location of the hot tub gives you better view to Akureyri. We decided to have it located in the nature to give our customers a feeling of bathing out in the nature. Because of the location of the property and the possibility to enjoy northern lights we did not want to put lights that would disturb the lights from the northern lights.
Best regards
Benedikt

This cottage is located about 5 minutes drive from Akureyri, it is in a quiet area with beautiful view across the fjord with mountain, sea and river view.
