Its reputation for offering a little of everything is well documented and deserved. From its ever-changing landscape to its wide variety of flora and fauna and places to visit, Lesvos offers visitors an incredible and unforgettable holiday break.

The Lesvos experience is truly an unspoilt taste of vanishing Greece.

Although the traditional fishing village of Tavari with its lovely selection of local tavernas and bars is only a fifteen minute walk away, Aegean Blue itself offers seclusion. There is however, a tiny and charming family-run beach taverna, open during the months of July and August, serving a tantalising selection of home-cooked Greek fare and drinks, with music and dancing for those who are game. The experience of listening to traditional Greek bazouki music while eating kalamari and horiatiki salata (village salad) at a table set upon beach sand is not to be missed!

For those wishing to escape the stresses and demands of modern life, this is the spot. And allow yourself to relax totally as you watch the sunset give way to the moon rising over the cliff tops. Then gaze with wonder at the night sky for a view unrestricted by light pollution.

Thalassa is situated at the front of the building overlooking the deck and sea. This self-catering studio apartment sleeps up to three adults, offers open-plan living with plenty of space to relax and a dual aspect view of the sea.

The modern kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with all utensils, crockery and lots of storage space, whilst the fresh tiled bathroom contains a shower, basin and toilet.

Absolutely magnificent!
We were looking for an opportunity to get close to the landscape, to appreciate the simple things in life, to slow down, take stock and enjoy the moment. And boy, did we get it! Aegean Blue is a truly beautiful place to unwind. It's remote but not too remote as the nearest shops and bars are five minutes drive and the amazing resort of Eressos is just a fifteen minute drive through rugged roads and gorgeous views. But you feel like you are a million miles away from the pressures of life. And the views are too DIE for! We couldn't decide whether it was the mountains or the sea view that we loved best. Plus, the owners of the property are a British family and they could not do enough for us. They were always on hand to help, booking our transport to and from the airport (about an hour's drive), arranged meals out and even taught us a yoga class or two! There is also a really lovely beach cantina which you can reach by following the stone steps that bank the property. We will most certainly be going back for our Greek fix soon!

About the neighborhood
The property is located on the volcanic side of Lesvos and sits on the cliff edge of Podaras, overlooking the Aegean Sea. With spectacular rock formations, natural water sources and breathtakingly beautiful beaches, it really is the perfectly secluded spot.

Nearby rests the sleepy fishing village of Tavari, the beautiful Mesotopos further up the mountains and the more vibrant beach resort of Eressos.

Below the property there are three residential bungalows along the beach road, and several tucked-away farmhouses along the farm road behind the beach. In winter the riverbed, almost dry in summer, fills with the rain from the mountainsides and fresh water flows into the lake and underground, where it collects and provides all-year round irrigation for the surrounding farmland. What remains of the lake in summer is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including many birds, terrapins, frogs and a vast array of insects. Farming is varied, but the main things the visitor will notice in summer are the goat-like sheep that graze on the hillsides. There are lovely walks along the tracks behind the beach amongst tall shady bamboo and old farm buildings. Or why not take the mountain road to visit the hillside shrine to the east of the beach?

How to get there
The journey directly to Lesvos (Mytilini) by charter flight is an obvious choice, with many of the larger airlines and holiday companies offering flights from most major airports. Or you can fly directly to Athens using an airline such as Aegean Air or Easy Jet and then take a local 50 minute flight to Lesvos. However, if you have time to spare why take one of the luxury ferry boats from the Athenian port of Piraeus to the island. This is an interesting alternative and you may even consider 'island hopping' on the way.

Once on Lesvos, our property is just a little more than an hour's taxi journey away, taking you through some of the most beautiful of the island's varied landscapes. In 2014 the approx price of this journey by taxi was 90 euros (but this can be shared by 4 people). However, it is also possible to travel by local bus between the capital town of Mytilini and the beautiful beach resort of Eressos, about 15 km from us.

There is nothing like hiring a car to really simplify your arrangements, especially if you book in advance. Europcar, Hertz and Budget are all located at Mytilini airport which enables you to pick up your car as soon as you arrive. However, local car hire companies are also at your service. We are very happy to help you with this and will always guarantee you the best price. Having the freedom of a car allows you to thoroughly explore the gorgeous surrounding area during your stay.

Whatever your travel choices, please do not hestitate to contact us as we are always happy to help. In particular, travel to and from Mytilini airport to the property can be arranged by us locally - always the best way.
