A place of paradise
Wanting to find an island and location that would allow our children to experience true Greek culture took us away from my husbands home island of Rhodes and off to the small Island of Syros. This year will be the second year that we have visited Syros and stayed at Chroussiano Farmhouse and planning to return next year also. The hospitality is second to none with owners Alexia and Lefteris going out of their way to make you welcome and help you to navigate the island. The son of Alexia and Lefteris has become a great friend of the girls and they are looking forward to returning to visit everyone next year. It has become our home away from home. Our little place of Greek paradise! The accommodation is traditional and has some lovely stone work and features. Much love and attention has gone into the building and decoration with many of the pottery pieces being cleverly made by Alexia herself. Each time, the property has been immaculately clean on arrival a the small welcome gifts and fresh cut flowers from the garden are a delightful touch. There are rabbits and hens on the property and the delivery of fresh eggs from papou(grandad) for breakfast is much appreciated and taste so good. The location of the farmhouse is set up on the hill with amazing views. We hire a car as we like to travel the island and explore. Our typical day normally starts with breakfast on the veranda, listening to the birds whilst looking out over the sea. This has to be one of the most relaxing holidays for us as a family as the girls love it and are happy. Some days we do not feel the need to leave the farmhouse and grounds at all, we could just sit and gaze out at the agean sea. With so many beaches to choose from, it is a tough decision but we have found ourselves going back to a few mainly due to the fact that there is a nice restaurant to eat dinner following a day at the beach. Kini beach followed by early dinner with kids at Allou Yialou and newly discovered this year was Achladi (pear) beach that has a great beach bar, cocktail bar and restaurant. With the restaurants being on the beach, it's an early sunset dinner, home to put the kids to bed and light some candles to enjoy a glass of local wine on the veranda ready for another day of island life. If you want your own little piece of paradise go and stay, you will certainly leave feeling more relaxed and rejuvenated than when you arrived.

We stayed there for 3 days. The house is ideal for relaxing, away from any noise. We loved the location, the rooms decoration and the bikes ride. We will be back...

hospitality redefined
It was a revelation, even for insiders like us who claim to know Greece inside out. We rediscovered hospitality and a quality in human relationships that we'd thought were long gone. Terry is a vineyard aficionado and this really shows in his conversation and, of course, his bottled wines. And then Chroussa looks almost surreal on a Greek island, with its old dignified villas and greenery. You'd almost be forgiven for forgetting about the sea, but the blue touch in the horizon is always there, should you miss it.

relaxing holidays
We spend a week in the Chroussiano farmhouse last June. It is located on the outskirts of the small village of Chroussa in the beautiful island of Syros (Greece). It is cheap, extremely traditional with a great view to the fields of the island. I hope we manage to get back next year for a relaxing holiday!

About the neighborhood
Chroussa is a village situated in the centre of the island. Its farms are built in traditional style and are typical of this kind of architecture in Syros. One also finds some surprisingly grand country houses in neoclassical style, dating from the 19th century and screened from the road by pine groves. Amazingly green gardens thrive in the shade of these tree. You can enjoy walking around the village of Chroussa or trekking at the north of the island, where you can find the best beaches of the island. Syros island is found almost in the centre of Cyclades, 83 naval miles from Piraeus and 62 naval miles from Rafina. The travel with ferry-boat lasts roughly four hours, while with the modern speedboats it lasts 2 hours. From the hill of Ano Syra the visitor can see many islands and immediately he will understand why Syros developed in the administrative, commercial, intellectual and cultural centre of Cyclades. Syros is called 'The princess of Cyclades'.
