Very spacious, comfortable apartment and very well equipped; the decor throughout is modern and tasteful. Beds are super-king size and bedrooms can have total blackout if wanted, air conditioning is quiet. The kitchen has everything you would expect including toaster, kettle, microwave and Nespresso and filter coffee machines. We stayed for a week and our daughter and partner joined us for 3 days in the middle. George responds very quickly to emails and answers all questions helpfully.
Would definitely recommend.
If you do book, a few travellers' tips below:
We arranged transfer from the airport with George at €50, his colleague picked us up promptly and showed us round the apartment once we arrived. We decided to use the tram and metro on the way back to the airport but this took 2 and a half hours with no holdups apart from ticket queues at Syntagma so, at €22.80 for the 2 of us, I think George's taxi is a better option and, obviously, if there were more of you a definite choice!
For first food (and wine!) turn left out of the apartment, down the steps at the end of the road, up the hill (about 5 minutes) and there's a corner shop which sells all basic items and seems to be open all the time! Staff extremely friendly and helpful. There's more substantial supermarket and pharmacy further on.
Down the hill from the apartment on the right there's a nice little taverna or left from there into a busier road there are several, all good Greek food and friendly staff. There is a very good restaurant 5 minutes to the left of the tram station almost on the beach (which gets mobbed on Sundays - beware!) but it has limited opening low season. We ordered several starter dishes tapas style and shared, all were delicious.
Transport into Athens is easy, Marina Altimou tram station is directly down the hill and across the main road, about 5-10 minutes walk. The journey is only €1.40 one way and ticket machines are on the platform (at most stations there is a new machine and a redundant one eg at M Alimou you have to cross the line to the other platform as the one on the Syntagma side doesn't work). You then MUST validate your ticket at the blue machines just inside the tram doors or you could be liable for a fine of up to €60 (we are terrified of this having been caught out in Italy with perfectly valid, paid for tickets but we forgot to stick them in the validation machine and were fined €40), stupid system but there you are. However, there is no ticket machine at Syntagma tram station, you have to buy tickets at the Metro station and the day my daughter and partner arrived there was a train strike so nowhere to buy tickets! They had to walk to the next tram station down the line for tickets. They also had to pay €60 (extra because of the train strike) taxi fare into Syntagma from the airport - once again would have been better to have booked through George. Also, one day the local station had run out of tickets, we risked it and got off the tram at the next station to buy the tickets.
To visit the sites I would recommend the 7 site ticket at €30 (its €20 for the Acropolis alone) mainly because you can buy it at any site and avoid the substantial ticket queues at the Acropolis itself. We got off the tram a station early and bought our tickets at the Hadrian's gate site, which is interesting in itself, then walked to the Acropolis.
