Our superb spacious open-plan penthouse is located in the upmarket coastal, residential area of Garajau, about 15 minutes drive east of Funchal city centre. The property features a superb 30ft x 40ft private south facing terrace with panoramic views of the Atlantic, looking onto the Deserta Islands. I have just returned from a wonderful week in this 5th floor penthouse. I chose it specifically for the quiet location and fabulous views.
Upon arrival at the airport I was met by Susy, my appointed driver who took me to the apartment and showed me round. Beautifully appointed, everything you would need and immaculately clean. All amenities you would need are close at hand to you - bars, restaurants, baker, chemist, supermarkets. The bus stop is outside the apartment - one way to Funchal, the other to Canico and beyond.
Susy can also take you on tours around the island and she is very informative and helpful. She took me on a wonderful whole day drive around the island; showing me spectacular areas which were off the beaten track. She is well worth taking an excursion with. Some of the roads are very steep and twisting, so it is better to use a local driver than hire your own car.

I was extremely fortunate to stay in Connie's apartment back in 2009 (sorry for the date on this review but it didn't give me the option to put the right date in!).

I take my elderly mother away every year and we have had some terrific holidays but this one is definitely one of the best. The apartment has absolutely everything you need including the most fantastic terrace where you can spend many a happy hour watching the boats, having a bbq or just sitting and admiring the pot plants that are lovingly cared for by an irrigation system!

The penthouse is easily accessible via the ground floor car park and there is no need for a car as transport is arranged by Connie on booking and there is a bus stop just outside the apartment which will take you into Funchal if you fancy venturing further afield.

That said, there is everything you would need in Garajau. A well equipped supermarket, some great restaurants and just next door a fabulous bar where you will be...

The accommodation is open plan. The lounge, dining room and very large kitchen are to the south and the bedrooms and bathrooms to the north. <BR>The lounge features two patio doors facing west and south, with superb sea views, a settee, two large armchairs, TV, DVD, CD, tape recorder and radio. <BR>The fully fitted kitchen has everything one should need. <BR>The double bedroom and the west facing aspect of the lounge open onto a west facing balcony with chairs and a table.<BR>The apartment is serviced by two lifts. <BR>The housekeeper visits weekly to prepare the penthouse for incoming guests or to refresh linen etc for guests staying more than one week.
