House Rental
Casa da Travessa is a lovely cottage located in the village centre, inside the castle walls. The house accommodated the local parish priest until late 90's.
With wonderful views to gardens and churches, Casa da Travessa has all the amenities, including bed linen, towels , shampoo and shower gel, some food.
Stay among the locals and experience the spirit of this medieval village, one of the most enchanting and visited places in Portugal.

Unas vacaciones entrañables
Mi familia y yo hemos estado de vacaciones en Obidos, estas navidades. Nos hemos hospedado na Casa Travesa, una casa acogedora, bien equipada y muy limpia.
Sus dueños son encantadores y te facilitan todo muchísimo.
Está perfectamente ubicada dentro de las murallas, para que tu visita al castillo sea de lo más cómoda.
Recomendamos esta casa a quien quiera pasar unas vacaciones en Obidos.
Nosotros, si podemos, volveremos.

Une super location
Nous revenons tout jutste de notre sejour au Portugal ou nous avons passe de supers moments. Obidos est une ville attachante, son rempart, sa lagune, l'ocean... La maison de Gabriella est idealement situee, dans le centre historique du village, calme, bien equipee a deux pas de tous les centres d'interets. Notre hotesse et disponible pour nous accueillir et nous conseiller. Incontestablement un hebergement agreable a recommander.

Très confortable maison, bien situé au centre d'Obidos.
Gabriella notre hôte est très aimable, elle nous a très bien accueillis.
La maison est très complète tout est prévu pour passer un bon séjour.

Casa da Travessa, Gabriela, Obidos, Portugal
RETURN TO OBIDOS 10 YEARS LATER
Ten years is a long time, but if the memory is lasting, then maybe it’s not so long. We wanted to return to Obidos and our only regret is that it took 10 years. Thanks to Airbnb we were able to stay in a property within the walls of the village. We had no interest in swimming pools and proximity to a beach. We wanted a “village” experience. Gabriela and her Cassa da Travessavillage provided a unique experience and will be as memorable as our first visit 10 years ago.
This was our first venture with Airbnb and did not know totally what to expect. Gabriela made it easy. She was very responsive by e-mail contact and arranged to meet us outside the walls of the village. She lead us by car through the gates of this ancient walled village. We followed in our small rental car. Hint: Small car is essential for navigating the very narrow streets in the village, but at the same time a lot of fun and part of the experience. A parking space was provided near the house with appropriate parking authorization.
Gabriela introduced the house to us and it was a total delight. The property is a charming two level small house that fits perfectly with the small street and neighboring houses. The front door opens directly to a pedestrian only small street with only the occasional sound of voices of a few tourists and neighbors walking by. The downstairs has an entrance foyer, a living room with sofas and TV. Guessing the sofas could be converted to sleeping accommodations, but not an issue since we were a couple. Behind the living room is fully functional kitchen, complete with full size refrigerator, microwave, oven, and top burner cooker. All crockery, plates, bowls, pots, pans, coffee maker, teapot, and utensils were available and more than adequate for cooking and dining in. A modern and exceptional supermarket is located a couple of miles outside the walls of the village and can easily provide all the staples you will want.
Gabriela explained all the functions of the kitchen appliances, internet, door keys, laundry, etc. and answered all questions. Her command of English is excellent and we had no problems communicating. The upstairs consists of two bedrooms and full bath. One bedroom has two twin beds, the other bedroom has one twin bed. Both bedrooms overlook the street. The bedrooms were of ample size and provided more than enough room for our luggage and assorted belongings. The bath was a tub/shower and the bathroom was of good size with plenty of hot water.
Our visit was at the end of October so heating/cooling was not an issue. A portable electric radiator was available for room heating if required. Our thinking is that these houses have substantial wall construction and along with the temperate climate of this part of Portugal, mechanical means of heating/cooling is not a big issue. The entire house was impeccably clean and pristine. It is obvious the house has been well maintained.
Obidos is a lovely, walled village, and worthy of all your time being spent within the walls. We chose to make some day trips to nearby location, Santarem, Fatima, Alcobaca, Peniche, and Tomar.
The Airbnb photos and descriptions were accurate and not misleading. For a “in the village” experience, the Cassa da Travessa is perfect. Obidos is an enchanting place and it’s a thrill to “live in the village” for a short while. We had no issues that required Gabriela’s assistance, although she resides just up the street and around the corner. Gabriela was a delight to meet and we wish her much success with Airbnb. She was our first encounter with Airbnb and we were extremely happy with the experience. It was a privilege and honor to be recipients of her hospitality and kindness.

A combinação perfeita para se sentir Óbidos
A vila de Óbidos é fantástica. Só o facto de avisitar já é por si só um acontecimento. Agora imaginem a experiência de viver dentro desta vila. E ainda por cima numa localização quase central, perto de tudo, mas suficientemente longe para se estar num sossego absoluto.
Uma casa de dois pisos, muito bem decorada e muito acolhedora. A Gabriela foi extremamente hospitaleira. O único senão é que o carro teve que ficar fora das muralhas, mas também isso valeu pelo passeio do carro à casa (5min)

Absolutly recommendable
We had a absolutly wunderful stay in Gabriela's house.
It is very cosy, everything needed is there, it is well located and Gabriela is the best host you can imagine.
Seh is so friendly and helpful in every case.
We absolutly recommend the Casa da Travessa forma stay in the beautiful City Obidos.

Just perfect
This is a lovely house perfectly located in a lovely town. It is very comfortable with all the amenities we might need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only way to experience Obidos. The evenings, after the day-trippers left, were magical.

The perfect place to stay in Portugal!
Nossa estada (minha e da minha esposa) na casa de Gabriela foi maravilhosa, pois além de ser muito bem equipada e decorada (ponto positivo para decoração e manutenção da casa, atenção aos detalhes foi excepcional!), está localizada no centro histórico de Óbidos. Gabriela é extremamente gentil e atenciosa, sempre pronta a ajudar nos fornecendo dicas sobre restaurantes (vegetarianos para nós) e passeios e quando solicitada. De todos os locais em que ficamos em Portugal, foi o nosso preferido. Recomendaremos a todos os nossos amigos e familiares e com certeza voltaremos!

Gabriela - la gentillesse incarnée - a une maison de charme (+ confort, fraicheur !)
Gabriela. aime accueillir et nous l'avons compris tout de suite. Elle s'est assurée que nous ne manquions de rien, nous a conseillés de belles visites. Sa jolie maison, très fleurie l'été, est très agréable, très confortable, calme, etc. Nous disposions de la maison entière (dont 2 chambres décorées avec goût). Cette maison ancienne aux murs épais reste fraiche quand il fait chaud. Le village fortifié de Obidos, les villes proches sont magnifiques, très intéressants sur le plan de l'histoire de l'art.
La mer est tout près. Nous avons très envie de revenir à Casa da Travessa et nous le ferons sûrement. A bientôt Gabriela et ... un grand MERCI. Nous recommandons cette étape à nos nombreux amis qui veulent aller au Portugal !

Perfect spot to see Obidos and the surrounding area.
This is a nice cottage in the center of Obidos, just a few doors down from the main tourist street, but not at all noisy or even many people walking by. I was a little worried since the price was so reasonable, but I didn't need to be. The cottage is spacious, clean, has a full kitchen, and quiet. It was unexpectedly hot during our trip and the house stayed nice and cool thanks to the thick walls. The bathroom was dated and had some mold/mildew on the grout and shower curtain, The tub was slow to drain, and unfortunately, the trap in the bathroom sink was not functioning properly so there was frequently a smell of sewage. This needs to be fixed, but it wold have been nice if there was at least a drain plug for the sink so the smell could be stopped. We actually chose to sleep in the bedroom with 2 twin beds since the double bedroom had a street light just outside the window making it very bright in that room at night. The kitchen was well equipped, there was a washing machine, the furniture was decent and the beds comfy. At check in we did not meet Gabriela, another gal was there finishing up the laundry, so she let us in. Unfortunately, she did not have much information for us concerning the town, sites, restaurants etc. I gave our stay 4 stars based on the things that were not so great are all things we can deal with, especially for the sweet price of this cottage in an ideal location. We fully enjoyed Obidos and all the surrounding areas which are an easy drive for day trips.

About the neighborhood
Every year several hundred thousands of tourists visit Óbidos and its famous medieval Castle, classified as an UNESCO World Heritage Monument. Inside the Castle walls there's a lovely village, with its traditional white houses and plenty of protected old medieval architecture.<BR><BR>Obidos offers a wide choice of friendly bars, cafes, restaurants and gift shops. Obidos is famous for its 'ginjinha' [brandy flavoured with morellos]. Local handicrafts include hand-painted chinaware, aquarelle and oil paintings, painted calabashes, coloured ceramics and wickerwork-like ceramics.<BR><BR>In Óbidos there are numerous cultural events throughout the year: the International Chocolate Festival (usually in March), the Holy Week celebrations (March / April), the Medieval market July / August and the Christmas Village (from early December till 1st January).<BR><BR>The village of Obidos is within easy reach of numerous golden sandy beaches, including; Foz do Arelho [8km], Obidos Lagoon [8km] Praia d'el Rey [10km], Sao Martinho [15km],Peniche [20km] and Nazaré [25Km), etc..<BR><BR>Nazaré and Peniche are well-known around the world for their excellent waves for surfing. There are also good conditions in the nearby for practicing a great variety of other watersports: scuba diving, rowing and windsailing (at Obidos Lagoon, for example).<BR><BR>This region is also very well known for their golf courses, spread everywhere: at Praia d'el Rey, rated as one of the best in Europe, and just 10km away, in Peniche [20km] , and also Golden Eagle, Rio Maior, a 20 min drive.
