On the Plus side - Although it is a basement, skylights and air wells make it bright and sunny. On the Minus side - Be clear that this is a basement in a very damp city. It has drainage problems. During a stay of almost 2 weeks, the bright, windowed air well flooded the place withe daylight, but water stood in it even on sunny days. When we arrived the shower did not drain (there...

Stayed 3 nights with adult children and partners. Basement apartment with little ventilation when secured. Damp, dank smell about the place with signs of water damage. Could really do with extra bathroom (certainly there is space) with full house. Long narrow apartment with huge living', dining and kitchen areas. Good compact kitchen with quality appliances. Not enough storage/cupboard space in two double bedrooms but huge walk in robe in bedroom with two singles. Not great...

First you have to go for a keys to their office on another adress (we knew before, but anyway, it was not easy then with heavy rain and a child); then you must find it - we were walking in front of building and wondering which doors are ours, upstairs is black and white apartment, and our's was downstairs (on -1), with smaaaal doors from the street. The apartment is really nice and big and great...

This apartment is in a really good location away from all the noise and the hussle when you want to sleep but only a ten minute walk from most attractions such as Dam Square or the famous Artis Zoo.It was clean and warm, all the rooms have there own heating controls which was a unexpected treat, and is underfloor heating not air-con. It is exceptionally spacious but the pictures don't really do it justice, it...

About the neighborhood
The apartment is located in the Nieuwmarkt area one of the oldest

districts of Amsterdam. Although bordering the spicy Red Light District,

it has a family-safe atmosphere with no red lights or related

businesses around.

The lovely Nieuwmarkt Square is picturesque with cafés and bars. De

Waag, a magnificent historic building stands out. It used to be St.

Anthony’s Gate, part of the Medieval Walls built in 1481 and

subsequently converted into a weighing house (Waag = weighing scales).

During the 16th century ships would dock here to unload and weight their

goods.

Today this is a beautiful and peaceful neighbourhood close to the

Central Station, The Rembrandt house, Chinatown and just ten minutes

away from Dam Square.
