There can’t be many better ways of experiencing Tuscany than to spend a week here at Spannocchia.
Yeah, yeah, I know. Stunning villas dot the Tuscan landscape. Luxury hotels dime a dozen. There's the Palio, walled cities, the Uffizi, cathedrals everywhere.
Well, at Spannocchia you get all that, PLUS you get to live smack in the middle of a gorgeous Tuscan farming estate that stretches back to the 13th century.
The location, just outside of Siena, is within easy reach of Florence and surrounding Tuscan hill towns. And there are numerous lesser known local points of interest.
You can stay at the Castello or in outbuildings. We spent a week, with another couple, in Montecchino, one of the original, rustic, yet well-appointed, stone outbuildings. Formerly the home of tenant farmers, the house was postcard-perfect. Quiet, great views and walkways, occasional visits from the great banded Cinta Senese pigs that rule the roost there.
