Being only one mile away from Porta Romana square, a renowned 'gate' into the heart of the historic district of the city, the villa is ideally located to visit Florence and its Tuscan surroundings at their very best! Set within a 3 hectare (7.4 acres) estate, this delightful villa is flooded with sunlight and has recently been extensively and carefully renovated by the owners to the highest standards. All of the original charm and architectural features have been strictly maintained and are highlighted by the wonderful Tuscan landscape, second to none for its striking beauty. Each living space has been exquisitely appointed to create a sophisticated and cozy atmosphere making the villa a truly unique gem, within just a few minutes from the very best that the city of Florence has to offer. The breathtaking views of the surrounding hills together with the tranquility of the estate create a relaxing, and peaceful atmosphere. The property provides its guests with a unique blend of indoor and outdoor living, perfect for a family reunion, a group of friends traveling together, or an anniversary party…with its 5 wonderfully decorated bedrooms and bathrooms, the villa offers the ultimate accommodation for your dream luxury holiday in Florence! The Garden. The beautiful typical Tuscan landscape of the villa’s private garden, full of fruit and olive trees, roses, century-old cypresses and pine trees, can be enjoyed throughout the villa. The garden also looks out onto the beautiful Florentine hillside as well as Villa del Poggio Imperiale – from 1737 to 1860 this was the residence of the 'Lorena' family, the Austrian Grand dukes of Tuscany. And the Arcetri observatory where Galileo Galilei continued his astronomical research after being called to Florence in 1610 by Cosimo II dei Medici can be seen as well. The Private Heated Pool. The wonderful salt-water infinity pool sits right next to the villa’s terrace and garden and comes with a full set of comfortable sun loungers. Being wonderfully exposed to the sun all day, the pool’s water gets really warm (around 31-32 Celsius/88-90 Fahrenheit) during the summer months, while it is heated during the Spring and Fall. The Location. The villa’s location is without any doubt one of its most unique and important features. While immersed in the beauty and quietness of the typical Tuscan landscape it is located just about a mile away from Porta Romana square (where the old city walls begin), and represents the beginning of the historic district of the city of Florence. So, all of the cities’ main points of interest can be easily and quickly reached in just a few minutes either by car, taxi, bus or even on foot. Just to name a few examples, world-renowned Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) and the Uffizi museum (the very “heart” of the historical district) are only about 1.9 miles away, while the main train station (Santa Maria Novella) and Piazza Del Duomo (Main cathedral) are only about 2.5 miles away. The nearest grocery stores, restaurant/pizzeria, pharmacy, bakery, cafes are located just within a 6-7 minute walking distance. At this same location it is also possible to take the bus that goes right into the heart of the center in just a few minutes. Taxi service works perfectly as well, as taxis usually reach the villa within 3 to 5 minutes from the time they are called (nearest taxi station is only about 1 mile away). Furthermore, from the villa it is possible to easily reach the road leading to the nearby Chianti villages (such as Greve, Panzano, Gaiole), the freeway to places like San Gimignano or Siena, and to the A1 Highway (to reach Rome, Milan, Naples or other places in Tuscany such as Pisa, Lucca). The Layout. Interiors: The villa is air conditioned throughout the entire home and comes with a total of 5 bedrooms and 5 full bathrooms, so it can comfortably welcome up to 10 guests (upon demand, an extra twin bed can be added to accommodate up to 11 guests). Below is a detailed description: - Entrance hall - Dining room with wooden table and full set of chairs (accommodating up to 10 guests), directly connected to the outdoor terrace and kitchen - Fully equipped kitchen, completely renovated in late 2015, with top of the line appliances: stove, oven, fridge/freezer, ice machine, Nespresso, drip-coffee machine, Moka (Italian style) coffee machine, dishwasher, sink, toaster, kettle, microwave - Living room with working fireplace and 48” TV (with SKY satellite channels), directly connected to the dining room and opening onto the private garden/pool area - Office room with large desk, printer and hard-wired (LAN) internet connection - Master bedroom with 1 King bed, large walk-in closet and large en-suite bathroom (with shower) More

The villa and grounds were fantastic. The villa was cozy and had been updated with all modern ammenities. The view of the Tuscan valley from the back yard was wonderful and we spent several afternoons there drinking wine. The owners were nice, easy to work with, and responsive. The only negative was the first part of the road from the villa to town was very busy and it limited our ability to walk to town. Overall very good and we would love to return one day.

Pros - The home itself is amazingly beautiful and a good size. Views from the terrace and pool are lovely. Cons - Despite being advertised as 1km to the heart of Florence it is not easy to get there. Also, the part of Florence in which this house is located is not geared for tourists e.g., no good place to have breakfast or lunch, obtaining bus tickets to get into Florence is an ordeal, supermarket is not close, host family was not hospitable. A better suggestion is to rent an equally beautiful villa somewhere else in Tusany (this part of the country is spoiled with them), and book-end your trip with a few days in Florence.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad that you found the villa to be beautiful, of a good size and the views to be amazing! In regards to some of your comments, we would like to clarify a few things as follows. First of all, the villa is located in the city of Florence, so we really do not know what you exactly mean when you say “the part of Florence in which this house is located is not geared for tourists”, as Florence is probably the most tourist-friendly city in Italy! In regards to the distance from the property to the city center of Florence, this is the very first time that we have received such feedback, since the distance from the villa to the heart of the city is usually the most convenient aspect of the property, for all of our guests!! The villa is located within a short walk from excellent grocery stores & take-out places, restaurant, cafes, shops, etc as well as a bus stop with 3 bus lines, that quickly take directly into the heart of town (bus tickets can be easily purchased pretty much anywhere, including nearby the property). So there is actually plenty of choices to have a great Italian breakfast or lunch nearby, within walking distance, perhaps it is just that you did not take the time to explore those during your visit (some of our guests actually "dream" of being back so to have breakfast or doing take-out at the cafe and grocery stores nearby, as they found those to be outstanding!). The supermarket (of excellent quality, modern and very large, with underground parking) is actually located only 1.3 mile away, so it is definitely very close the property!.. Many of our guests commute in and out the city center on foot, without any problem, or just walk from the villa to the nearest bus stop to catch the bus. To reach the beginning of the historical district of Florence (Porta Romana square), the distance is just about a mile away. Once entering Porta Romana, many tourist attractions such as Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, and Ponte Vecchio can be found. Prior to your arrival, we provided a thorough Guest Information Booklet that included specific details (with maps) about the different means of transportation available to you, including by car, by bus, or on foot so that you and your guests could decide which one would have worked out the best, based on the distances and the suggested roads. The booklet also contained other useful details about the property, available services, and plenty of recommended things to do and places to see in the area. We created this in efforts to be as hospitable as possible and to provide our guests with the most useful information for the planning of their stay in Italy. Throughout your stay, we have helped you with any questions that you had right away and in general, we always go the extra mile to ensure that all of our guests’ wishes are met. So we are definitely one of the most hospitable hosts in Florence! We hope that we will be able to welcome you back to the property in the future so that you can have a wonderful experience, as all of our other guests have had.

I would recommend the Villa Fontanine as it was well appointed and the owners thought of everything. The views were spectacular and the mornings were delightful out by the pool. I even chanced upon seeing a baby deer down in the field. We hired a chef one night and had a relaxing dinner. The train was easy into town. And for those that were concerned there was no American coffee maker there is! Although after drinking espresso I think I agree with the comment that we drink brown water! I am contemplating booking again!

The Villa Le Fontaine is lovely. Furnishings are of the highest quality as are linens and towels. The property is well cared for by "Butch" and the owners. The pool is beautiful. Indeed, my four grandchildren and their parents were often reluctant to leave the pool to see Florence! The villa is very well located, close to local shopping at Due Strade, and an easy bus ride to the center of Florence. The views from the property are very nice and the enviroment very restful. The owners were a pleasure to deal with. From my first inquiry until our departure from the villa, they attended to our every need and at least one "emergency" when two of my grandchildren ran afoul of the transit police in Florence. Bravo Antonello!!!!! In short, if you have the opportunity GRAB THIS PROPERTY.

Our family had the most wonderful experience at Le Fontanine. It is truly the best of both worlds. You feel like you are far out in the Tuscan countryside with the beautiful landscape, but you are only 1 mile from the city of Florence. The house is spacious and comfortable. We have 3 boys (ages 10, 8 and 6) and our friends came with their 2 girls (ages 7 and 5). With the 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms we had plenty of space. The decor is cute and it is very clean. The kids had fun running around outside and playing in the fields. It was too cold for the pool to be open when we were there, but it looked very nice. Antonello is wonderful and very accommodating. He gave us lots of great places to visit. We hope to return to Le Fontanine someday!

Our family had a great time in Florence and the "Le Fontanine" house added to a great experience. The 5 bedroom four bathroom house work very well for family of 7. We cooked a Christmas feast in the kitchen and the dining room worked perfectly for us. Antonello was very helpful for us. He helped us get reservations at a local restaurant the first night. We went there twice as we liked it so much. He told how to find the local farmer’s market and grocery stores. The location of the house was a plus for us – away from the crowds but a quick drive to downtown Florence. I liked the open area behind the house as it gave you the feeling of being in the country. Le Fontanine is a great place and nice people.

Our family enjoyed a week at this lovely villa in July. The owners and caretakers took care to make sure their home felt like 'our' home. The villa is pristine, well-appointed, and situated on a picturesque hillside just outside of Florence. While we enjoyed quality 'together' time during meals, swimming and occasional TV/movie watching, the spaciousness of this property afforded each of us some quiet, 'alone' time, as well. We made daily trips (by 10-minute cab ride) into Florence; however, this villa is ideal for just kicking back, swimming, sunning and relaxing in the beautiful countryside.

Our family very much enjoyed this lovely villa. The home is exactly as described and photographed, and the setting is very picturesque. The rooms are large and beautifully appointed. We enjoyed quality family time--dining together on the covered patio, relaxing poolside after a swim, or watching a little TV in the evenings--but the spaciousness of this home affords privacy and 'alone time', as well. The villa is a short drive into Florence, and there are some good, local restaurants within walking distrance. The owners and caretakers did everything possibly to make us feel at home in their lovely home. We have already recommended this villa to family members, friends and co-workers....and cannot wait to return!
