Rental Home
Our home is located 6 miles outside of Cortona, on the Tuscan/Umbrian border, near Lake Trasimeno. The house dates back to the 1700s and was originally a farmhouse. It is set a third of the way up the hill, below a forest and we have over a hundred acres in which you can roam. The house has 4 bedrooms: 2 double bedrooms and 2 with 2 single beds, 3 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a dining room and a portico (outside, covered eating space). There is a large 12m pool with poolhouse, overlooking splendid views of Cortona. My parents bought and restored the ruined property in 1970 and it has been a family home for 40 years. It would suit families with children or adults wishing to get away from it all and yet be able to dip into the vast amount of culture around. Cortona is an Etruscan town, famous for its medieval artists; Siena, Assisi, Montepulciano and Perugia are all within a 45 minute drive or train journey. We fly into Pisa airport which is small and manageable, but Rome is often more accessible for other cities. Train services are regular and an efficient way to travel (and cheap) to Cortona, and the journey takes approximately 3 hours from either airport to the Cortona/Camucia station (see www.trenitalia for times). If travelling by car, the journey should take you just over 2 hours from either Rome or Pisa, depending on traffic. We have an Italian couple who look after the property and come in to do the garden and occasional cleaning. My parents live in a small house just nearby during the summer months should you need help in English. They have separate facilities but may only occasionally use the pool when it is convenient.More

About the neighborhood
This is a region full of history, right next to the hill where Hannibal and the Carthiginians fought the Romans and the waters of Lake Trasimeno were stained red with the blood of the dead. The house overlooks Cortona, one of 5 important Etruscan cities and later an important medieval town under the rule of the Medici and the Casali families. It is an area renowned for its art, its wine and its olive oil. There is plenty to see and do for all age groups, whether it is sight-seeing, wine tasting, using the lake and hills to enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Or simply to be quiet and read under the Tuscan Sun.
