About the neighborhood
Poiano is a borough of Verona, it is 2,68 Km North-East from the city centre and lies at 83 metres above the sea level. 1998 people live in this borough, it is the west part of Valpantena, right next to Torricelle, between the borough called Borgo Venezia and Quinto.The first documents witnessing its name go back to I and II century AD: Puliano, then Pollano, both from Latin Pullianus (Pullio’s farm). According to a popular etymology it comes from the Latin expression Podium Iani, i.e. “Janus’s hillock”. This name refers to the position of this place, which is the first of Valpantena, for travellers coming from Verona and seems to “open the doors” to the valley.
