Fabulous Italian Lake Town Getaway
Set in a quaint village overlooking Lake Orta, this gem is the perfect getaway for family or friends seeking elegant historic charm with modern amenities. Just 40 minutes from the Milan airport, these stunning accommodations are wonderfully located amidst nearby lakes, ferries, castles, Michelin Star restaurants, and local cafes. A fabulous kitchen with indoor and outdoor garden dining spaces provide the perfect backdrop for making memories. For those who need it, there is WiFi and a flat screen tv in every bedroom; for those who don’t need technology, there is an indoor pool, steam room, and reading nooks galour!

A fantastic treat for our Golden Wedding Anniversary
A simply stunning property in this delightful village overlooking Lake Orta. As has been said before, this villa is just wonderful. It is on 3 floors, has lots of character with beautiful painted plaster ceilings, and trompe l'oeil in some rooms. However, it is also very modern, with excellent en-suites and dressing rooms to all of the bedrooms. A fully wired in music system, each room having it's own controls. Wonderful for families or friends. Our grandson was very impressed that they had a flat screen large TV and PS. Would thoroughly recommend this villa.

Indulge in the beauty of Northern Italy
We were seeking a totally authentic Italian experience and thankfully we chose Palazzo dei Leoni situated only minutes from the picturesque Lago Di Orta. Here our senses were delighted in the most elegant and beautifully created, luxury Italian residence perched high in the village of Vacciago. The spectacular scenery was hard to ignore with views overlooking the lake, cobbled stone pathways through the town and some of the most beautiful old Italian architecture including the quaintest of churches right next door. We thoroughly indulged ourselves in the luxurious spa and steam rooms and made sure we took advantage of the on-call masseuse who absolutely pampered us and created such a beautiful and relaxing experience we couldn’t help but drift off into a blissful sleep! At Palazzo dei Leoni we also had the option to book a personal chef and we had delicious local produce and groceries on our doorstep daily. Our driver Antonio was at our disposal - with Milan, Lake Como, wineries and festivals only a short drive away. Having all of this at our finger tips meant this became a deeply personal and easy way to experience the rich culture of this northern region of Italy. The residence is perfect for groups and extended families with numerous bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate. We were immediately welcomed and taken care of on our arrival at Palazzo dei Leoni and it was such a memorable and authentic Italian experience, we will treasure our stay for years to come.

Ultimate luxury and SOPHISTICATION!
Palazzo dei Leoni is one of those rare places that captivates not just your heart, but manages to excite your intellect with brilliant design details and soothe your soul with the charm of Vacciago and the chime of church bells! Giovanni is a harbinger of great taste and is the ultimate care taker of your experience there. You can see he lives in the details from the exquisite bath products, to the beautiful scents in each room to the array of fresh herbs in the garden for you to cook meals with - each sense softly wakes up. This place is as close to heaven on earth and invites long conversations, contemplations in the music room and library as you gaze at the lake and mountains, and holds wonderful books and an incredible spa to read and rejuvenate in. The area is breathtaking and Orta San Guillo is so charming! Unlike Como, it is not commercialized or become a tourist trap, but has all the conveniences needed! This is a place where you feel like magic can happen and grand dreams can come true!

Truly fantastic villa - perfect for celebrating special moments in your life
We chose Villa Leoni to celebrate our friends 50th birthday. From the moment we arrived we were impressed with the level of professionalism shown to us by the Villa Owner - Giovanni. The attention to detail in this villa is second to none from the luxury bathroom amenities in each room to the design detail throughout the villa. The spa area is fantastic and ideal for relaxing after a busy day of skiing or sight seeing in this magical location. With the friendly store owner next door we were able to easily cater for ourselves and enjoyed sitting and talking in the cosy kitchen or around the table in the garden. Sometimes in these types of places with a group you can feel that everyone is on top of each other but in Villa Leonie there are so many areas to go and escape whether it be to curl up to watch Rugby in the large TV room, sit around and chat in the beautiful dining area or relax in one of the beautifully appointed bedrooms which are all spacious and each with it's own ensuite. The Frette linen and towels add to the feeling of comfort and luxury. Our group are all well travelled and we all agreed how beautiful our experience was this past weekend and will definitely recommend this Villa as a place to stay in Lake Orta. Congratulations Giovanni and team on turning this Villa into such a special rendezvous. You deserve much success. We look forward to returning in the future.

The Absolute BEST Travel Experience EVER
If you are looking to discover the REAL Italy, you need to stay at this property. It's a classic, old Italian building next to a lovely local church. Downstairs, there's a small market that has all the food, wine, and essentials you need to live in a wonderful, rural, Italian town. The third floor has a spectacular view of Lake Orta. I know you often wonder if the pictures do a property justice...but in this case, this property was BETTER than the photos. The atmosphere...the feeling of history...with MODERN conveniences..all made this a fantastic vacation for our family. We traveled in the Summer with our teenage daughter because her sister was rowing in the world championships in Varese. The building itself is an immaculate restoration of a centuries-old building. Each room has a unique character...with comfort. The kitchen is delightful, and our mornings were spent shopping at the market for fresh fruit, bread, milk, and cheese...and everything we needed. The market owner speaks NO English but was extremely helpful and charming. Our "point-and-hope" shopping technique was rewarded with a smile, and even better suggestions. The property is about a 15-minute drive from Orta San Giulio and the lake front...but you get a sweeping view of the lake from the top floor. Orta San Giulio is charming and not too touristy. Day trips to Milan were an easy 45-minute drive, so you get the best of Italy: The mountains, the lakes, the history, and the fashionable modernity of Milan. Lake Como is an easy trip as well, and worthwhile...though quite touristy. It's smart to spend for a private boat tour of the lake...it was worth every penny (price negotiable). The owner was extremely helpful, and Manuela (his assistant) spoke perfect English and explained everything we needed to know. They have a cleaning lady who can come as often as you need, and it is all very convenient. After a long day traveling in Italy, it really felt like home when we returned to the property. The church bells were lovely and not too loud...just perfect atmosphere. I wish we could give the property six stars! One suggestion: When you rent a car...do NOT take a giant SUV like we did. The roads are very narrow! We managed quite well and did not scratch our lovely SUV. But it is much wiser to rent something compact for these old roads. It will make the driving much easier. The Villa, by the way, has a convenient parking area only a block away from the property--which was very convenient. We would not hesitate to rent this property again, and highly recommend it to anyone who will be in this region...at any time.

luxe, calme et volupté
We spent 3 days and nights at the palazzo and everything was just perfect. Manuela, the manager, welcomed us with her charming French and did her best for us. We enjoyed the amazing pieces of design in this historical place, we had great weather, so we could eat in the courtyard every day. This is THE perfect place to relax ( the spa is very special ) and fare niente except enjoying the place and the people you are with. We will definitely come back at another season

Spectacular!
Palazzo dei Leoni is truly spectacular. As unique as you can get and so irresistibly chic! A great location to start: nestled in the centre of Vacciago, an untouched baroque village overlooking lake Orta and San Giulio island, Palazzo dei Leoni embodies the typical structure of the Italian aristocratic mansions built during the 17th century by the wealthiest Milanese families to escape from the plague. The palazzo is all you can imagine and more: porches, arches columns and a cute and a magical inner courtyard. The mansion has been recently tastefully restored by the new owners and what an amazing job they did, no expenses spared! My husband and I spent there 5 days with my sister, brother in law and nephew. We had great fun cooking (the kitchen is state of the art) and we rotated between setting up dinner in the elegant dining room or in the beautiful private garden. All en suite bedrooms, tastefully and appropriately decorated, have gorgeous travertine bathrooms (squeaky clean!) equipped with Frette towels (same brand of the linens) and all necessities. Each room has hidden high quality speakers and regulators so that you may play your best Ipod music selection without disturbing you bedroom neighbor! (speakers even in every bathroom!). The SPA is simply gorgeous. We could rest after our hectic days and enjoy the highly technological Turkish Bath (highly recommended). During the day it was quite hot but luckily the spa had a wonderful pool and the temperature fell quite a lot at night felt so didn’t miss the AC! Within the village we visited Fondazione Calderara, featuring a small but very precious collection of paintings and sculptures, set in a beautiful palazzo. The most amazing deli shop ever is just few steps away from the house: from newspapers and cigarettes to cold cuts, best local cheeses, fresh vegetables, fruits and staples. Away from the pretty crowded village of Orta, however a must to see, it’s been the perfect location for us to discover the lake and it has to offer. Manuela, the property manager, was extremely and courteous professional. Thank you Manuela and Palazzo dei Leoni, we we definitely come back!

Great service in a great location.
Great service in a great location. My boyfriend and I spent 4 days together with our Australian friends in this beautiful mansion.. The first day it was raining and we couldn't really understand our location. But we found our way around easily , the next day . We were captivated by the beauty of the Villa. The amazing way it was renovated, the decor, the details. We were like children walking around astonished by the beauty of a place like magic. We expected the house was closer to the lake but realized after few days that was better to be there rather in the village of ORTA, right on the lake but so overcrowded with tourists. The perfect location for a quick holiday. Great service as well. Thanks to Manuela, we could rent a sailing boat on lake MAGGIORE, we could hire a private chef for the most unforgettable dinner and we could get the best tips for the best spots away from the crowd. Amazing holidays , We cant wait to return.

About the neighborhood
The area around Lake Orta has long been a favorite tourists, thanks to the quiet beauty of the landscape, its fascinating history and its wealth of artistic treasures - principally Romanesque and Baroque architecture. Lake Orta lies to the west of Lake Maggiore, it is one of the smallest and least-known of northern Italy's sub-Alpine lakes. The German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who visited the lake in May 1882 and believed that the experience changed his life forever, inscribed the date 'von Orta an' ('from Orta onwards') as a preface to his masterpiece Thus Spake Zarathustra. Other 19th-century writers enchanted by its quiet beauty include the French novelist Honoré de Balzac, who wrote rapturously of this 'grey pearl in a green jewel-box', and Robert Browning. His poem 'By the Fireside', which contemplates the beauty of a setting where 'Alp meets heaven in snow'. The famous italian writer, Piero Chiara, called Orta San Giulio 'God's Watercolor'. The facade of the houses overlooking the main Orta San Giulio's square reminds what Chiara wrote. And Augusto Mazzetti, journalist and poet, used to call this square 'the living room'. The Sacro Monte of Orta is located within a historical parc, nowadays a nature reserve, and comprises 21 votive chapels dating back to the end of the XVIth and the XVIIIth centuries with frescoes and sculptures of terra cotta narrating the life of San Francesco of Assisi. Sacro Monte d'Orta is in the World Heritage List safeguarded by UNESCO.
