This was a fantastic apartment with an extensive outdoor area. It has a bohemian feel to it, especially the kitchen (which as other reviewers state, is full of useful items...e.g. coffee filters, coffee, cereals, salt, washing up liquid etc). The apartment is a large space, especially for two. Also great if you have children due to the bunk beds being within earshot/sight of the double bed. There are nice apartments in Carcassonne, but this is one of the best due to outdoor space and location (in-between old cite and town). Only downside are the mozzies (common in this town - take repellent and you'll be fine) and the traffic noise when in bed (though I live somewhere you can't hear any traffic so it may just be me - if you live in a city centre it's probably pretty quiet, so it's all relative). Caroline the host speaks great English, was very welcoming and helpful and as other reviewers state, is very generous with giving guests wine!! Although the family live at the back and walk through the garden to get there, it was far enough away not to feel intrusive and we didn't see them often. There is an apartment above but Caroline explained it was usually only let at weekends, and certainly we heard no noise from above. We visit Carcassonne every year and will certainly be looking to book this apartment when we return. Thoroughly recommend!

Hibiscus House in Carcassonne is a find. It surpasses the description on tripadvisor, both internally and externally. The pool and all of the garden areas, were a delight to experience. The off-street parking in front of the house was most convenient. The Cite Medievale and Carcassonne Centre (with its very narrow streets - don't use the car) are only ten minutes walk from the house. We have recommended Hibiscus House to friends/relatives, and we intend to visit it again. Caroline C. was a most charming and helpful host/owner.

This was our secend time staying in Caroline and Joffrey's beautiful ground floor apartement. Due to unexpected flooding in 2018 the whole downstairs had to be renovated and what an amazing job was done. The spacious and luxurious shower room is more that anyone would need. All the appliances in the wonderful kitchen are new and modern and I hope that we left it in the immaculate condition that we found it in. Caroline and Joffrey are perfect hosts and I would highly recommend this apartement to anyone. The pool and gardens are magnificent and private. The location is in a quiet residential street just a 15/20 minute stroll into town. Couldn't be better situated. We loved every minute there. Thank you again.

We were really surprised at the size of the apartment and pool.Certainly larger than we imagined, the kitchen was very big. The pool a good size but cold, supposed to be around 70 degrees.Still a great way to cool off.The bed dining area is a good size. There’s parking on the front for your car.The castle is about 15 minutes walk and the main area of the town is 20 minutes.Caroline was really helpful. The pool area is different to the photos, during the flood the pool was damaged and the surrounding replaced with wooden decking.Don’t know if this is a temporary fix.Overall a great place to stay.

Hibiscus House is located on a suburban avenue close to the canal and all the amenities in Carcassonne. It is a short 10 minute walk to Square Gambetta and 20 minutes from the walled Citadel, but this walk is a reasonable steep hill to the castle. The main room within the accommodation is open plan with a large fireplace which houses the tv and has a double bed, a set of bunk beds and two leather sofas. The bathroom is off the main room and has a double width shower, toilet and sink unit. The kitchen is typically French in style with tiled worktops and curtained areas under the worktop. There is a dishwasher, fridge and separate freezer and extra wide gas cooker. A dining table and chairs sits in the centre of the kitchen. French doors lead out to the garden where the swimming pool is located in a raised decked area with sun loungers. A small table and 2 chairs are located outside the French doors as a patio area. There is access to a washing machine and tumble dryer in a communal area. Caroline was a great host and was vitally important in helping us with directions and transport.

We had to evacuate due to the flood. We are grateful that Caroline and Joffrey were able to save our things from water damage. We were looking forward to spending the last three days in the apartment. We were fortunate to be able to book a hotel (actually two different hotels) in the Toulouse area on short notice. Very stressful for us, but nothing compared to the stress that Caroline and Joffrey endured. I hope things are going okay with the clean-up. Caroline mentioned a refund for us, which would be appreciated. Ted Boroian

Very spacious accomodation with plenty of outside seating space making the most of the garden. The small pool would be very welcome after a day of sightseeing. Location is excellent for visiting La Cité and ville basse. Parking is off street.

First time we have stayed in Carcassonne and can definitely say it wont be the last its a beautiful picturesque location. We travelled via Ryanair, jumped in a taxi to Hibiscus House where we was greeted by Caroline and Joffrey, thank you sooo much for the chilled biere & cidre much appreciated and very refreshing in the heat of the day : ) We thought about hiring a car but didn't need to as railway station and bus services are all in walking distance if required. We explored till our feet ached, took a boat trip along the canal du midi, enjoyed the markets in the square, jumped on the bus (5 min walk from hibiscus house) for 1 euro to the Lac De La Cavayere (swimming lake) and also enjoyed many relaxing afternoons by the pool. During our stay on the bank holiday weekend they held the Feria de Carcassonne 4 days of music/dancing/food festival which was fab a mixture of all ages from young children to the retired a real family feel atmosphere. Looking forward to returning sometime in the near future, thanks guys for the warm welcome, lovely place you have there, perfect location and thanks Joffrey for booking our taxi to the airport : ) were missing the warmer climate already lol Au revoir Deb & Gary x x

We stayed in Hibisus House for 33 nights which I believe gives ample opportunity to give a true review of a property. Immediately on arriving into a well kept parking space in the front garden (remember this house is only 0.8km from the centre of Carcassonne) we were greeted by the new owner Caroline. Her relaxed, friendly manner made us feel very welcome after our long (10 hour) but very enjoyable drive from Roscoff. We had the bottom half of the house which consisted of a huge living room, beautiful cool entrance hall and large well equipped kitchen with French doors leading out to patio and pool. The big double bed is placed in a discreet corner of the living room along with 2 bunk beds in another corner. This living is so large that the sleeping arrangements in no way impede upon the space. It would be perfect for a family with 2 children. However there was only 2 of us. The living room also had a door leading out to the garden. I hardly know where to start to describe the garden. It had four seating areas, two of which were privately divided off for the use of the upstairs apartment. The pool was cleaned every day by Caroline's husband Joffrey. Even though we had a car we practically spent every morning walking and exploring the old and new cities and every afternoon relaxing by the pool. Thank you very much Caroline and Joffrey for the 2 bottles of wine and 2 bottles of Cremont and all the lovely fruit and vegatables which awaited us upon arrival. This is also a perfect location and base to visit all the wonderful attractions within a short driving distance eg. Narbonne is approx. one hour away and Toulouse is the same in the opposite direction. We also enjoyed a complete day on a guided wine tour of the surrounding neighbourhood. I think I've said enough for everyone to get the complete picture. Thank you again Caroline and Joffrey, we can't wait to return next year. Say bonjour to Tom from Ken and Mary.

About the neighborhood
The medieval city of Carcassonne is a fairytale location with lots to see and do, with festivals in July and August each year, concerts by top stars, and a firework display on Bastille Day, the 14th July. In December, in the Bastide area, there's a great Christmas market. The Canal du Midi also passes through the town offering the opportunity for a boat trip on this fascinating waterway built in the mid-1600's. The bastide area of Carcassonne is full of interesting architecture and is rich in history dating from the 12th century. From the apartment, the nearest boulangeries are just a 5-minute walk away as is the nearest bar/restaurant. For both children and adults, there's the 'Lac de la Cavayere', a lake with a beach that's safe for swimming and nature reserve which also offers othe...
