Located in the Vézère Valley, in the heart of the Périgord, this 17th century property is in Tayac, a ten minute walk to Les Eyzies, where there are restaurants, cafes, markets and shops. The perfect location for a couple, a family or a group of friends, very close to the famous caves Font de Gaume, Lascaux and the many castles in the Dordogne. The property has been beautifully renovated. Gîte St Martin is a self catering house with a private terrace overlooking the garden and the cliffs of the Vézère and we also have a Bed and Breakfast room with a private bathroom and its private entrance. French lessons are also available. The owners are French and Australian.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks stay in this beautiful cottage just a few minutes drive to the charming and interesting town of Les Eyzies. The cottage is very comfortable and cosy, the kitchen extremely well equipped and the view from the terrace overlooking the mature garden against of the background of the cliffs is simply stunning. It was hard to drag ourselves away from the peace and quiet of this idyllic setting! There is also a very pleasant small south facing garden with a table and chairs. Chantal and John, the owners of this beautiful cottage live next door and are just really kind, warm and welcoming hosts; always ready to help out when we asked (but also very discreet) and gave us some great recommendations about what to see and where to eat. They also generously gifted us some of their home grown vegetables - delicious! We arrived as strangers and left as friends. We can't recommend this gite highly enough, you'll just have to go and experience it for yourselves and you won't be disappointed. Thanks Chantal and John and we look forward to seeing you again.

I stayed at Gite St. Martin for a week and enjoyed the quiet comfort of the cottage. Each morning I studied French with Chantal ... lessons tailored to my ability and interests. She is a patient and encouraging instructor and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with her. The gite is within easy walking distance of the charming village of Les Ezyies which offers lots of shops and restaurants. I loved it so much, I'm going back next year!

Our stay at Chantal’s B&B was very special. She is a very welcoming and charming host. The accommodation is in an authentic French homestead with stone walls and shuttered windows, which has been renovated to include modern conveniences, while retaining its rustic charm. Set among beautiful gardens with extensive sweeping lawns, mature shade trees, flower beds, fruit trees and a vegetable garden, all lovingly tended by husband John, is also a modern swimming pool where guests can cool off on those hot summer days. The wholesome alfresco breakfasts provided by Chantal among the trees in the crisp morning air were a delight. The B&B is situated in a quiet corner of this lovely small town Les Eyzies-de-Tayac which has at it’s centre the Museum of Prehistory, a must see. It is an ideal central location for exploring the wider Dordogne area. This is an exceptionally beautiful area of France with its many historic towns, pretty villages, chateaux, castles, vineyards, prehistoric caves, rugged landscapes, limestone cliffs and winding river valleys. Many of the nearby caves are open to the public and guided tours available at some, including the local Font-de-Gaume, and further afield at Rouffignac and Lascaux with their famous collections of prehistoric cave art. Canoeing is available locally on the picturesque rivers. As an added bonus, Chantal who is a qualified language teacher, also offers structured French lessons to those guests who are interested. Lessons are tailored to individual needs, from basic to advanced. Our highest recommendation goes to this B&B. We would gladly visit again. Christopher M. Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

The gite is beautiful with wooden beams and lovely stone walls. All the modern conveniences are there particularly in the kitchen which is extremely well-equipped. The beds are very comfortable and we all slept soundly. The setting is idyllic with a gorgeous garden and so quiet. The town of Les Ezyies -de-Tayac is perfect to explore this part of the Perigord. Scenic walks can be accessed from right outside the property and everything that we wanted to see was within a 30 minute drive or less. Chantal and John are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble including giving us their carrots when we forgot to buy some and sharing their home-grown butternut squash with us. A really idyllic place to stay and thank you so much Chantal and John for sharing it with us.

We stayed for two weeks in May in this beautiful cottage in Les Eyzies de Tayac. We have visited every year for the past five years now, so safe to say we absolutely love it! The cottage can be rented with either two bedrooms and one bathroom, or with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are spacious, beds are really comfortable, and linen is always lovely. The living space is also wonderful, with a well-equipped kitchen. There is a lovely covered terrace as well as space to sit out in the sunshine too, and the views are just stunning and magical. The swimming pool and the garden are beautiful too. It’s a wonderful spot for peace and quiet, but also just a few minutes’ walk to some lovely restaurants and shops (including fabulous boulangerie of course) in Les Eyzies. The owners, Chantal and John, are two of the nicest people I’ve ever met, really friendly hosts, always there when you need them, but also really discreet in giving guests their own space and time too – the perfect balance really. They are very knowledgeable about the area too and there are lots of wonderful places to visit within easy reach. If you’d like to learn some French, Chantal is a great teacher and makes lessons lots of fun, regardless of what level you are at, and she is so patient. As I said, we’ve been renting this cottage for many years now, every year, and this year, we’re lucky enough to have planned a second visit in September. I adore the Vézère Valley, this cottage and its lovely owners and highly recommend it!

I thoroughly recommend Gîte Sain Martin in Tayac. A gorgeous part of France and the accommodation and hospitality was wonderful. Beautiful gardens and a perfect setting for french lessons - or to simply enjoy the region.

I booked Gite St. Martin as my teenage children are currently studying French and the owner Chantal also provides language lessons. We had a great time. The property is exactly what you think a Gite would be and has been very thoughtfully furnished and well equipped. It was spotlessly clean. I particularly enjoyed sitting in the garden whilst the children had their lessons as it is a totally peaceful setting but also then only a short walk into the main village area. The wider area has a lot to see and do and our week flew by. We would love to return on a future occasion and I can definitely recommend it to others.

We have just returned from a wonderful week with Chantal and John. We stayed in their lovely comfortable gite with its beautiful surroundings and had daily French lessons with Chantal. We can't believe how much our French improved and how enjoyable it was. The location for exploring the area, the comfortable gite and beautiful garden, the French lessons and the delightful hosts all go to make this a very special place.

The Gite St Martin is a lovely authentic self contained cottage, set in beautiful gardens along side the lovely home of Chantal and John, which also contains Chantal’s class Room, where we took our French lessons. The cottage was clean, tidy, and very comfortable. It is stylishly furnished and very well appointed. The property is located in the lovely hamlet of Tayac, with its beautiful church, just on the edge of Les Eyzies, and a short walk from the village centre, with plenty of places to eat or enjoy a coffee. You are just a short walk from the magnificent Vezere river, which is lovely to walk along, or there are kayak and canoes for hire, and they will drive you upstream, and you can paddle back down. Very beautiful. You are a short drive to many other beautiful villages, like Sarlat and Domme, and of course the magnificent Dordogne river. We took three hours of french lessons every morning. Chantal was an excellent teacher, and her methods were interesting and innovative. We watched videos and listened to audios. The time went quickly, it was so enjoyable. Her classroom, was a lovely room, with large window overlooking the garden, towards the river. In the afternoon we enjoyed the garden, or went for a walk, or short drive to another village. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the weather still was in October. It was still 25/26 degrees most days, and Chantal and John have a lovely swimming pool, which we swam in most afternoons. Bordeaux is quite close, and we went there for dinner a couple of times. It’s a great town, with many stylish boutiques and excellent restaurants. John and Chantal made us very welcome, and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. We had a very enjoyable stay, and would highly recommend it for either a short stay or for a few weeks, like we did.

We spent a week with Chantal and her husband in the St. Martin gite and could not have had a better experience. The cottage was comfortable, and well-provisioned for all the cooking you want to do - which you will want to do after visiting nearby town farmers' markets. The house and cottage are within easy walking distance to the center of Les Eyzies and the Prehistory Museum. It is also a wonderful jumping off point for touring the Perigord, the prehistoric cave paintings of Grotte de Font de Gaume, Lascaux, and the Grotte de Roffignac. Chantal also provides private French lessons, which were a blast. Definitely a place to which to return.
