We are located in a small hamlet, close to Bergerac, rural but not isolated and very peaceful. As one guest described the cottage and setting: 'an oasis of calm'. Set in the grounds of a beautiful Perigordian Chartreuse, La Petite Maison is a two room cottage built of honey-coloured stone under a tiled roof with lovely oak beams in the living area. It is an ideal retreat for couples or families with young children. Perfect for getting away from the stresses of modern life. The garden attracts abundant bird and wildlife, including birds rare to the UK, red squirrels, many beautiful butterflies and humming-bird moths. The garden attracts abundant bird and wildlife, including birds rare to the UK, red squirrels, many beautiful butterflies and humming-bird moths. Wild flowers, including orchids as well as flowering trees and shrubs provide a colourful backdrop most of the year. There is a good sized swimming pool 12 metres by 6. It is fully fenced with a security gate and although unheated, the solar blanket means that the water remains warm. We open the pool as soon as the weather permits, usually from early May and put it to bed for winter in late October, though the main season is June to September. The pool is ideally placed to catch the maximum sunshine and is very private with views over the garden and surrounding countryside and woodlands. We have a swing and slide set for small children as well as a selection of outdoor toys. The area benefits from a very pleasant climate and although temperatures in the Dordogne in high summer can be very warm we usually benefit from a dry non humid heat. The area is justifiably famous for its food, wine, cultural heritage and archaeological sites as well as having the world heritage city, Bordeaux nearby. La Petite Maison is well placed for day trips and the choice of activities is only limited by what you enjoy. It is an ideal base for exploring the region or even house-hunting for your own dream cottage. The rental rates quoted are for the cottage and include bedding, linen, bathroom and swimming towels. Although the cottage can sleep four, we can only accept two adults and two children. We can supply cots and other useful baby and toddler equipment, if pre-booked.More

Please note that the cottage is probably too small for four adults in comfort. The second bed is a double futon, suitable for one or two children, in the living area. Please see the photographs. Families with children have said they've loved it. We have a quantity of baby equipment, cot, high-chair, buggies, bicycles etc. Check-in/out times can be flexible IF we don't have a same day changeover. Please do not hesitate to ask for further information. We want you to have a really great holiday.

About the neighborhood
The pretty market town of Bergerac has numerous restaurants and plentiful shopping as well as a lively market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. All around the area are wine trails and vineyards for tasting and buying. Bergerac has more different individual AOC wines than almost any other part of France, from the sweet white Monbazillac to the rich dark red Pecharmant and many in between to suit all tastes and moods. Many of the vineyards and cooperatives are open for tastings and will make visitors most welcome. Bliss! There are plenty of sporting activities ranging from golf to canoeing, from karting to fishing as well as pleasant walking cycling and horse riding from local stables. Walking is a pleasure along marked trails throughout the region. Pretty villages boast small auberges and res...
Getting around
A car or motor bike is essential to make the most of this beautiful area. We can lend two bicycles to guests and we also have small bikes for youg children to ride in the garden. It is fairly hilly around the property. There is an airport, with car hire facilities and a railway station for Sarlat and Bordeaux (with links to Paris and beyond) and buses operate within Bergerac, the nearest town. Taxis are also available, though expensive
